Everyone tells me not to but my intuition and gut is telling me to

Well... sometimes people see more than we do but sometimes they miss the point of things. Sometimes they encourage us and sometimes they discourage us. I think it would be wise to sit down and ask them why they are saying one should not pursue an MBA and what situations they see it being a smart idea. If you want to get more input, you can post a question on GMATClub.com/forum about your situation and see what others say anonymously.... there is value in getting a second opinion.

Guys !!!! Listen to your heart and commit to the MBA. I left a grueling office job, full of long hrs and constantly churning out campaign ideas 24/7. I have now taken a step back and gone "hey Liam, what do you really want" and here I am today ; in a relationship with an MBA ; ) Best thing I have ever done. Valid, valid points

Hi Liam, how did MBA help you? Are you doing something different than your office job?

Generally good video, though I wanted to add a little on “good” points 2 and 3. Career switching can and is often done, but it works much better in some fields than others. Consulting and banking like career switchers. Hedge funds, private equity and most corporate roles not so much.
Related to career switching, MBAs can give some skills, but not anything like real life experience. So people hiring you typically won’t necessarily put too much value on the education itself but rather your potential.

Young man, I’m 56 years old. I was a pilot for many years. But due to health reason, I had to give up my career.
On my bucket list is to get my MBA. What do you think?

Hello and welcome to the GMAT Club TH-cam Channel. Sorry to hear about the career plan changes. A friend of mine who is an Airbus pilot almost had to switch at 40 due to back issues from all the sitting... The immediate thought is that at 56, and assuming you get a prestigious university degree (rather than something sketchy), it is tough to justify the time and money cost of doing an MBA since it will take 1-3 years (depending on the program) and you will not have all that much time to capitalize on the benefits (obviously there are life-learning benefits but we are talking here about the ones that would pay back your investment into the MBA degree). Bottom line is - you are absolutely welcome to get it. It will probably be something like the '65 Mustang - won't be worth the time and money you put into it at the end of the day, but it has not stopped many people from owning and restoring one. It is never wrong to seek education or to better oneself, regardless the age.

Great reasons! I've been out of college for about a year and working in a finance analyst role. I really want to go back but I know it's not time yet.

Lee H yeah... you will have to stick it out for a bit. Keep this in mind, you don’t need to do anything amazing you just have to stand out among your peers and demonstrate that you have been able to be resourceful with whatever resources you had access to. That plus initiative and quantifiable accomplishments would be awesome 😎 and about 3 years of work experience... that will also be handy for recruiting.

Would you say the business school matters? MBA in a small niche business school with a specialized track vs. a more general MBA in a big, "well known" school?

Thank you for the helpful video. Do you think I should try to get an MBA if I am bad at math? Mostly algebraic math.

3 good reasons from the AdCom perspective:
    1. This MBA is the missing piece in your career trajectory
    2. Career switching- just lay out a plan to inform admissions how the MBA will help you make the switch
    3. You're filling a specific skills gap.
    3 wrong reasons
    1. It's a notch on your belt
    2. You're already in an MBA role
    3. My career is stagnant so I might as well do an MBA
Good points but your tone sucked buddy. Even when you're talking about the good reasons why to get an MBA you make it sound like it's not worth it 🤷‍♀️

Haha, I'm an executive for a fortune 500 company. I wanted to get my MBA for the heck of it. Getting in to a good school was easy. When the school has a fortune 500 executive in their student body and my company pays 100%, they waived most requirements.

With no work experience, it would be hard to gain admission in MBA programs. Masters will be a good option. Come to the forum and see what experts say about your profile. gmatclub.com/forum/mim-profile-evaluations-post-all-profiles-here-315527.html
