I stopped listening to my teachers this year. It was the best idea I had. I have rules tho to get a great knowledge on your own: be passionate/curious in everything that can help you achieve your rational but still idealistic goal, work everyday but not a lot of hours just a few like 2 or 3 hours then stop and practice what you learnt some days later. And finally listen only to certified people not those dummies that give their opinion, just the facts. For example, i stopped maths last year because i thought it was boring but now that I have a goal it is all different. I was not passionate about it maybe because my teachers were cold hearted and only cared about the pay check. It is an hobbie now to learn maths, i learn more efficiently and faster because i don't have strict rules to follow and i found good resources that are interesting. Plus stop toxic habits like eating fast food, a lot of sugar... Do some sports, go to sleep early, stop going out with superficial people. Those easy things can really change your life on the long term. It's a good investment. Do not fall for the easy traps of pleasure and the environment around you.
Absolutely agree. During highschool I absolutely hated my anatomy and physiology classes, mainly blaming it on my general dislike of memorisation heavy subjects. I ended up studying medicine and excelling in said classes, developing a deep passion for understanding the ins and outs of the human body only then did I realize the difference in my professors. My highschool professor would sit and just read from the book, showing up late to class and for the most part refusing to answer questions, she wouldn't address us or even notice if someone was missing from class and during exams you could easily pull out your phone and cheat. My university professor stressed the importance of knowing anatomy and physiology, she gave us the reasons for knowing it and how valuable it will be not only during other subjects in our course but once we enter the world as physicians and take care of our patients. Every time she would show up for class you could see that she fully believed what she said and was willing to push us to see it with the same passion.
I hated anything math related back in hs and there was this month wherein our professor was temporarily changed nd in that month, no, in the first 2 days that the sub prof came in i realized that math was actually fun & i looked forward to it everyday. Profs do matter. I excelled in Sci back in hs but on my last year science was my lowest subject simply because the prof wasnt as good as tbe one who taught me throughout hs. just sharing. :D
Some people may say she's putting on a show for marketing purposes. However, I've actually had a professor like this at my institution who showed up with amazing energy and excitement towards the course at least 97% of the time. There are professors out there like this who exist, who make learning fun, comfortable, engaging, and extremely valuable.
We called these business case Studies. In my classes the students did most of the talking which in my opinion is the idea because it brings out their creativity. The professor joined then every now and then when he thought it was necessary. I learned a lot from this course. The subject matter provided its own energy.
@@Ghostrider-xc2hgCoca cola has marketing. Mcdonald’s has marketing. Reputation does not negate the need for marketing. And this video IS obviously marketing. Same. Introvert doesnt equal shy. For me it just means I get exhausted from social interaction a bit faster than someone who's extroverted, especially if it's shallow, although i love it sometimes. But I thrive in constructive discussions like this

Most people find they hated the teachers of the subjects they hated. So how often were we repelled from a subject because the teacher repelled us? This is perhaps why online teaching is much better in some ways: You can choose the teacher (in a good system). Some people just rub us the wrong way. Its hard to counteract. And a student shouldn't have to. Their education is just so much more important. Never let personality interfere with your learning. Life is too short for that and we have a lot of problems to solve.
Today I phisically attended one of the MBA classes at Harvard as a visitor (you can do too, it is open). I thought the video was probably one of the most successful classes that can be shown publicly. But the real lesson was even better than this. Atmosphere, teaching, coordination, students are just unbelieveable. Around 70-80% students out of 95 (!) spoke at least once. The teacher did a great job in coordination. There was 20 minute summary presentation by her, which was cherry on top. I can't believe just a casual lesson can be in such a high quality

Both of my English professors (undergrad) had this same contagious energy! Not only did we learn how to write better, we became listeners, active listeners and enthusiastic learners.
@Latrease Leah I graduated from UC Berkeley and took some classes at Stanford…best teacher I had was at a community college. My mom was a professor at Cal State Long Beach who received her PhD from Vassar. She was a lot like this professor…simply passionate about the subject with an actual love for teaching. Good professors like this can be found at every level of education. Many believe it’s the brand name of the university. Not true. The higher the university the more those professors usually have to publish and do research if on a tenure track, leaving less time for students.
My favorite all-time teacher was at San Francisco State. I'm sure most people don't even know that's a school, but it's one of the better communications universities in the Bay Area. He loved teaching and the biggest part of his class was making sure he was engaging with us and we were engaging with each other. He probably taught at max half the class every time, the rest of the time was conversations. Best two classes I ever took, also the two hardest classes I ever took lol.
@Latrease Leah yea that is exactly what ivy league schools want people to believe, because that is how they justify the high tuition bill. It simply isn't true. I mean I don't know about at the community college level but I do know for a fact there are amazing university professors who are not in the ivy league that are more effective than many of their ivy league counterparts.

The case she’s talking about was a decision made by CEO Cynthia Carroll, who decided to SHUT DOWN 2 platinum mines to take time to promote safety training
Temporarily shut down or permanently shut down? Because I feel like if I was in that position, I'd temporary shut down the operation to do some investigations, it could be the site, it could be the equipment, etc and then proceed upon the result of the investigation before resuming the operation.
This is not for students, this is actually for teachers to learn how they need to be passionate and create an environment for the students especially for those who are not so expressive or introverts
I don't understand how people blame and insist that the teachers are driving the social atmosphere, this problem legitimately resides on the students shoulders, the engagement usually depends on the students interest in the subject.
This is grad school not elementary school. You go to this to learn how to manage groups of people - if you are not expressive, introverted to the point of not being able to participate in a conversation you are not ready to lead anyone. People will be coming to you for solutions right or wrong you have to think quick and make a choice. If you spend your time getting anxious about having to speak in front of folks who might disagree with you. Not sure what to tell you but you won't be running a good business or managing people well.
The first time I watched this, I can barely understand them without subtitles. Right now, I can totally understand them without subtitles. I'm so happy!
It all boils down to manners. True education is having manners, not flexing intelligence over the other, but hearing them out to broaden your perspective. In the end, the truly educated person is one with respect.
Excuse me for pointing out my view, I think that everybody needs a teacher who can see their talents and guid them to achieve that what they want. For everyone it's different and for somebodies she wouldn't be the right teacher.
gotta disagree. in high school i had an amazing legal teacher who was motivated just like this. she gave us so many resources, real life examples, tips to succeed in the subject yet so many students could care less about their education.
For sustainability it would be an advantage. Usually, people think too much on the short term. Business education is often too much short term thinking.
@@nanashipersonne4151 So you're sayin' it's all about the sustainability of profit? And any heart stuff is a means to an end? You're trying to kill two birds with one stone. Might work, but more likely one needs prioritizing over the other as they're inherently in conflict. That means policy needs to flexibly fit the situation. How is that possible if the policy is written from above? Should the workers make policy? Standard procedure would continue operations while someone investigated. Better would stop the operation and have the CEO fly down with her own interpreter to interview workers to find the problem and solution. Can't use a local interpreter as the workers would not trust them. I'd guess the CEO would learn all about everything allowing her to elevate safety, satisfaction, and profit. Would get to know the people too; every CEO should know the people underlying her operation.
My IB history teacher teaches like this and barely ever gives out homework and all of his students have As because we learn more through engaging conversations and not through lecture/note taking

It's not just the teacher that's creating this wonderful learning environment. The main contributors are the students who are willing and eager to participating in this exchange. From my experience from a small local college, getting a class like this is also every teacher's dream, because the fun part of teaching is in the class
I agree. If the students are interactive enough, the teacher can maintain this sort of atmosphere where students are pushed through the limits and made to think about different possibilities of a situation. This makes students smarter and helps them grow personally and professionally.
Totally enabled by the teacher. I was an introvert and wouldn't say a word in class until I met a teacher who encouraged me to. Now, I always look forward to contributing not minding the vulnerability. 100% on the teacher.
@@iamrising7176 Yes, enabling is definitely needed for this environment and there will always be students like you who are willing to open up to that enabling. But from a teacher's perspective, just like how students find different kinds of teachers, they also find that different classes have different collective nature. It will just depend on what mindset most of the students have. Some students are receptive while some are not, and in college level it's extremely difficult to give enough individuals attention to each student and employ what they are receptive towards. For a teacher, every class is different.

I'm jealous of classes like this. Some teachers in the schools I've been to require "class participation" yet shut down/shame/intimidate students the moment they answered incorrectly in class. Moreover, some students get shamed for being stupid or being smart (ie. teacher's pet, a showoff, or overachiever). In some cases, students would be waiting on whoever raises a hand first before they even attempt to participate in classroom discussions. It's probably why my Literature teacher back in high school was the one I remember the most: she instilled the idea that "there are no wrong answers in her class" because everyone has a different interpretation whenever we were discussing literary works - my answers may not be perfect all the time, but I felt more confident in participating because I wasn't scared of sharing my thoughts on the topic.
The reason why she is a good teacher is because the students are paying so much money to be in her class they paid at least $25,000 to be at this college, so of course she's going to be a good teacher, after all you get what you pay for.
In a well run MBA course there are no right or wrong answers. Simply participating on the topic at hand is enough… and everything else required in the course flows right along by doing that.

Don’t worry you got the brains. Plus this is exactly how this video is meant to make you feel,it’s made by Harvard and edited for publicity. Focus your study on what you like and don’t forget that education is a personal quest for knowledge: you decide the ending and the way.
Having brains will likely keep you out of a classroom like this. These universities aren’t the end all be all. This professor here proves the quote -'If you find your studies boring, probably you are learning from the wrong teacher'.

So true!

Period.
What they do is called brainstorming, which is very effective for getting quick results, for problems that require quick decision making
People will be coming to you for solutions right or wrong you have to think quick and make a choice. why is this teacher acting like business majors need hearts

This is what I love for being a teacher.
enabled by the teacher...

The reason why she is a good teacher is because the students are paying so much money to be in her class they paid at least $25,000 to be at this college,
so of course she's going to be a good teacher, after all you get what you pay for.

I really feel the synergy in this workplace culture. The customer journey one goes through on this deep dive really allows them to ballpark their future in possible startups. The visibility on these pain points is so important to improve product sustainability and genuine core competency within the next generation of hyperlocal to nationwide companies. It is so holistic to teach logistics in a way that doesn't only focus on what their quotas and quick wins would be, rather aligning with an ecosystem of good business. These students have such high bandwidth and placing them in such an ecosystem really incentivizes them to see all the big data and move the needle in a positive direction!
I love the name cards. Lol. Great way for the professors to teach “personally” and “intimately”.
I believe this is a common practice at a lot of B schools.

if every school becomes Harvard then what would harvard be doing
@@vidushisharma2695 Be harvard
Harvard doesn't have this type of learning everyday. It's a promotional video designed to engage with the viewer. I guarantee that most of the other MBA courses aren't this exciting to watch. A lot of work in everyday life is boring, but you still have to put in the time and effort to do it. You need to find something interesting about it. This is probably why most people don't want to go to class. You can't sit around and expect it to be as fun as a promotional TH-cam video like this. If you're better prepared for class and read the assigned reading or did the work before hand, you would probably find it more exciting that day. Most people don't do this.
@@ygerman1539 I'm willing to do that

I had a teacher like her in college. I wished she was my teacher in elementary and high school so that we started a great foundation making us interested in the idea of school.
Yea, I've had one or two like this. I promise you not all teachers are like this in Ivy League campuses. They have just as many dry, boring, and unreasonable or disinterested professors as anywhere else.
I've had the privilege of sitting in the classroom of a teacher with an extraordinary presence-passionate, brilliant, and masterfully engaging, leaving the class captivated with his thought-provoking orchestration of each case.
Let's take a moment to appreciate the teacher, She's not just hearing but listening to the student's responses!
Every student deserves a teacher like her!
Im pretty confident that this professor’s teaching style is unique in Harvard and you have to bid for this class like crazy.
I have had teachers like this in high school (public), undergraduate (private), and post graduate (private). That was 15 years ago.
Hello from NZ. Not unique to Harvard. My lecturer does this in my post grad lectures and I had this in undergrad as well 👩🎓
The case method aka teaching thru class debate was created at Harvard decades ago. Fortunately other schools have adopted it
@@marcomoriarty6049 This is a slight variation of The Socratic method - which derived from the Greek philosopher, Socrates. SO no Harvard didn't "create" this methodology of teaching.

Professor Neeley - your approach, attitude, excitement, passion and ability to engage in the conversation! Simply amazing! I wish all professors could share the same charisma! Hats Off!

I could've told you that in a heartbeat! Given a choice, I would ALWAYS choose an in-person class over an on-line class.
I’ve worked with many of MBA grads, in all sorts of industries, both as coworkers or clients. I have worked with thousands of clients, save hundreds of millions of dollars in annualized savings. Many MBA-ers I’ve struggled with were those who had difficulty relating to the working people who’s jobs they’re trying to affect: above all the skill of listening. Classroom brainstorming and debates has a place, certainly, but an important lesson often missed by most MBA-ers is actually listening to the people. I must say 80% of my work is listening to everyone (to see how the system functions or not), and 20% is getting these people to work together as a team to accomplish the company’s business plan. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard, “We’ve been telling them (mgt) for years and no one listens to use. Workers - management work together as a team to solve problems before it requires any serious changes, like shutting down an operation, except of course due to safety reasons.
agreed. The guy who wanted to do the review was pushed into a "decision" for show. Vs getting to any detail about the fatality. Pretty quick analysis can determine if there's a systemic factor at play, be it culture, equipment maintenance, training, that necessitate a safety stand down - or if it's pretty clearly a one off that has more of a nudge solution to prevent in future.
@@brentdavidson1 The guy who wanted to do the review was *not* pushed into a 'decision' for show. She asked a second time, he stayed with wanting an investigation, she switched to "What are you learning in this investigation?" She asked for *exactly* the answer you just gave.

The way Professor keep challenging the students leadership qualities is commendable. A teacher must have high level of energy to keep the class on toes and that exactly what she was doing. Fantastic.

Yes, I think so.
Everyone in this room look like stock models, except these guys are legit smart
It’s still just business school and not rocket science as they say. Apparently some people in the class still aren’t smart enough to pick the obvious answer the SJW professor was looking for. @@LetterSignedBy51SpiesWasA-Coup you have to be kidding me right? their acceptance rate for the business school is 12%. Whilst, "Smart" maybe subjective, the fact is everyone of them are on the above average at the least.

@@junyaophoon7671 again, most of the people pursuing MBAs in Ivy Leagues, are already in some sort of managerial position. Academics is one of the many factors taken into consideration for acceptance into Ivy leagues, you need to have a bunch load of extra curricular achievements to even be considered.
Legit smart?
"If the world had more educators like her" honestly it plays both ways. I've seen students not raising their hands, not participating and no engaging with the lessons despite how amazing the teacher is. Education can definitely be like what's in the video if teachers are ready to orchestrate and students are ready to play.
That's true but at the same time a class consist of a lot more students for 1 educator, if only 50% of the students are willing to play it's already a step into the right direction and will influence the 50% remaining, on the other side if the only educator isn't willing to orchestrate then it just does nothing.
Sure but, wouldn’t it make more sense if a passionate teacher who is willing to bring out the best in students no matter how much it takes be more better than a participating student? I mean what’s the point of participating if doing so won’t do anything for you. A good teacher wouldn’t need to have all kids be able to participate, a good teacher will inspire them to.
@@lethalbutterknife2311it should be a two way street. & you shouldn’t just do things just to get something out of it for your sole benefit. Being a teacher is hard work & they deserve to have students interacting. It’s not their job to make you put effort in.
@@kendramills2138 Right, both teachers and students should participate, but it’s more important to have a passionate teacher. Think of it, what would be the point of buying a whole car but not the steering wheel…it wouldn’t be reasonable. In the same way, although it’s a factor to have students participate, it is of much more importance for a teacher to be driven to teach them, to work with them to make them a better..more knowledgeable person. That is what a teacher is, and that is the point of teaching.
@@lethalbutterknife2311 There's no but in this. It's an equal two way traffic. I've been in a class of a very lively and engaging lecturer but we the students just didn't catch the vibe.

This is my issue with MBA Programs. I was in one after being in the real world for about five years and they don't relate to the real world in anyway. They teach you how to value money over people. Having teachers that are passionate about what they're teaching is a huge key in students actively wanting to learn and retain information. Too many classes I've had monotoned professors who just ramble information at us and we have to take notes and study notes. That sucked and frankly is hard to learn. Then I've had professors who care about what they're teaching, and teach us through conversation and engagement to the point where you never really even have a chance to take notes because you're so engaged in the lesson. Yet even without the notes, everything that was spoke on that day, you retained and remembered, and enjoyed. We need more teachers like this.
"One day, not only that could be you, I know that one day it will be you" This is the best punchline not me crying in my seat while studying, such a great motivation that I need.
