    The cheater/reader conundrum! I too struggled for a while. Never failed, no matter where I stashed my glasses, I’d leave with a pair on my head or collar and they accumulate at my office desk or bedside table- not where I intended to stash them! I broke down and got progressive lenses with a clear top level, intermediate middle (computer/instrument range) and close up lower level. Absolutely love them. Hated the hell out of them the first 3 days and actually was about to toss them out when it “clicked”. Also had all of my sunglasses changed as well. LensCrafters can do all major brands (Ray Ban, Costas, Oakley, etc).

    I love watching your videos and I learn more each time I view. I am a flight sim nut and at age 68, I decided I would be best staying with the MSFS sim and not be a real pilot. I am a Part107 drone pilot with my TV station in Tulsa, Ok. Wave at my son when you fly over Plano Texas! TO close- I fly for real thru your videos... Keep it up and thank you!!!

    You’re a great aviator, but I never saw you use a check list. Always use a checklist to just back up your flows. It can save your life one day. Keep up the great flying, and happy landings!

    A wing camera would be a nice addition to help mix up the camera angles. Nice video!

      I agree, however I am concerned about the speeds generated by the 210. Do you think having the camera on the glareshield pointed straight at my face would be better than off to the side?

    Request:
    No offense but regarding camera angles, it would be more interesting to see your Instrument panel on IFR Approaches than simply seeing your profile from IAF to Final Approach. Please also keep the short 2nd Cam Clips of front view over engine cowling too. Thank you.

    What device do you have mounted to your pilot side yoke? And how do you use it? Don’t ever seem to talk about it or look at it? Any thought of moving IPad to your yoke? I have older redundant GPS ON pilot yoke on 182 and it’s not used very much.

      It is a Garmin Aera 650 (I think) and it I have it hardwired to aircraft power and crossfill enabled to the GTN 750 and 430. It was installed before Foreflight was around and before we upgraded to the Aspen and GTN 750 (removed a 530). It is meant to be another tool in the event of power failure. What I use it for most often, is I have it programmed to show the top of descent into my destination. You hear me often say that I simply use a descent rate of 500 fpm, Altitude minus field elevation equals I need to start descent X minutes out. I do often glance down at the rate of descent required as a reference. Because I used a full size iPad and I like that size, it would be simply too big on the yoke.

    Never understood why pilots write 10 minutes after departure because every altitude given with an expect is always 99.9% 10 minutes. I usually save my ink and just write the two altitudes. Question is how many pilots set their watch to say hey, it’s been 10 minutes. I better start climbing because they didn’t give me my new altitude?

    • @TheFlyingSalesman
      @TheFlyingSalesman  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I understand where you are coming from. However let’s remember the intent of the clearance. The intent is to establish where you are cleared to go, how to get there and what altitudes to fly. This establishes a set of “knowns” so that in the event of a communication failure, the pilot knows how to proceed AND ATC knows what the pilot should be doing next even if they are not communicating. The video I have planned for 6-29 will cover this. I hope you check it out and let’s discuss.

    Suggestion. Whenever I do my run up, I always go to full power and check my static RPM and re-adjust my mixture for best power and then enrich. It may be a 16th of an inch. Your engine will thank you for it because in certain circumstances, especially high density altitude, you are over, reaching the engine and subjecting thoseplugs to foul quicker. After I establish that I do buy regular run up and leave the mixture where it is at for takeoff. Personal preference. I cycle the prop three times. First I look for of course RPM drop. The second cycle I look for the manifold pressure to slightly increase momentarily. The third time I do it I watch my oil pressure. It should drop slightly and then spring back to where it was at. This way you get a good cycle of the prop and you get to see all that operating the prop does.

      The problem with full power with the 210 is that it starts dragging it across the ground because the brakes lock and it slides. I do pull the mixture back when taxiing especially at high altitude airports. During climb, I want 150 PPH fuel flow no matter the altitude.

    Hey Matt, great video. Curious about what app you’re using on the iPad. Also, wondering if you have/were using autopilot once you popped up out of the tops. It looked really smooth but also, the yoke seemed to be moving on its own. Never had a chance to use autopilot

      I use ForeFlight on the iPad. I hand flew it in climb and then AP once on top. I love hand flying imc but kept it on during descent this time.
