      I would love it if you made a video about efficient preflight action for IFR. Its hard for me to determine and figure out what fixes i will be assigned. I don't want to try and pick up an IFR unprepared and sound dumb on the radio.
      Edit: i know how to file a route, but things get tough when What I expect is different from what i actually get.

    I was that other aircraft in the pattern that morning!! Recognized your voice on tower freq that morning! Weird hearing myself, caught me off guard realizing this was video from that morning. Shot my first actual IFR approach that morning with my CFI, got some actual IFR time that day -- now in the tail end of my private! This morning made me SO hyped for IR. Solid video as always! Cheers!

    It is always awesome to watch pilots shooting approaches. I’m working on my instrument rating, so watching the experts do the work helps me to concentrate on things I may be missing. Both ILS approaches were spot on. My weakness is programming the gps and making all radio calls. I’m getting there. My approaches are pretty spot on, the other programming and setup still needs some work.

    So happy…right as I’m starting my IR training, you’re posting more IFR vids! You’re my break from all the strictly informational vids I watch…your videos are such a perfect blend of funny as shit and also informative. Thanks Lewis!

    CLEAROFF checks are the ones we use to avoid DG not matching the compass. These are enroute checks we conduct top of climb and we repeat every 5-10 minutes in Australia including in imc.
    Compass to DG
    Logs updated with times
    Engine indicators in the green.
    Airspace have appropriate clearance
    Radios tuned.
    Orientation we are travelling in the right direction
    Fuel sufficient and on correct tank
    Forced landing options

    I'm not familiar with any of the Cessna boat series of aircraft but I saw at 14:45 ish is seems you were above white arc with some increment of flaps down. Does the white arc continue further than it seems or maybe the first notch of flaps has a different speed limit? Not saying you're wrong, just curious! Thanks.

      It’s a fair question and something a lot of people question. Vfe 10° in the C172R is 110.

    I watched both of your missed approaches as a layman pilot. You cleared up a little bit of a mystery for me. Actually, the whole thing is a mystery so you get the localizer first, then get to a certain altitude and wait for the glideslope to kick in. Why does the glideslope not coming from the top of that Instrument? It looks like it’s sliding in from the left. Why doesn’t it just drop vertically.
    On a sidenote, I just got myself a nice 75” TV. This is where I watch your videos feels like I’m watching top gun style. My bitch is that I can’t leave comments while watching it on the TV. I have to slide over to my iPhone to leave comments. Tell TH-cam to fix this… It’s a pain in the ass. 😮

    For the safety pilot, he can log only the time outside the clouds, right? As in, after the flight, do you guys just subtract the actual IMC time from the total time minus whatever your estimate is for the visual phases of flight on the missed, takeoff, and landing?

    Honest question here: Isnt the white ARC on the ASI flap speed range? You were at 100KIAS or something

    • @LewDixAviation
      @LewDixAviation  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get this question all the time. In the C172R POH you’ll find the answer. The white arc may be 33-85 but Vfe 10° is actually 110. It’s placarded too on the flap selector.

    • @Torcsen
      @Torcsen 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LewDixAviation Well, I'll be damned! Poh of the 172S as well! Always waited until needle in the white arc for any flap. Learned something new.

      @LewDixAviation  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Torcsen Excellent news! Glad to be of help. It’s definitely something that a lot of people aren’t aware of. I assume that because a lot of instructors teach to follow arc colours rather than actual speeds. I don’t know 🤷🏼‍♂️

    It's interesting. In your CFI training videos in the past, you exaggerate certain mistakes or attitudes that students have. Over-controlling, hyper fixation, etc. In that context, it's obviously planned, safely, and it is for the student to recognize what you are doing and correct you. Yet here, I noticed some of your same mannerisms as you inadvertently over-controlled and hyper-fixated, and though you identified some of it, you really needed Otto to redirect you to be successful. Even your debrief between approaches, where you identified what went wrong, was similar to the exaggerated response you often give to CFI students when they correct you. Sometimes I see those videos and think it can't be that the students you imitate are that obtuse with their mistakes, but you just showed here that it can happen.
    Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Otto aspiring to be a CFI? This probably was good training for him too (yes, I know technically this is CFII material but the teaching technique is still the same)
