Hey man! Very good pointers here on how to tune for a proper idle, it's not always the IDLE set screw as you already know. IN fact I have almost always had to richen the Low Speed Needle like 3/4 of a turn to get a proper idle also. Could be the "FUEL Factor Variable" this is why we are getting idles that are too high with factory settings. Anyway, good work! I ran my jato today too..
I was wrong about no wheelie bar for news jatos it's in the box for us to put on. You got it running great. I have to do that to mine, thanks for the information.
I’m glad you post videos like this even though some might like them I do they are very informative and help with troubleshooting my RC‘s always good to have knowledge in the Bank.
I remember that when u put these nitro RC away u pull the glow plug and put in a drop of the red oil soo nothing where’s or rust and start back up for protection. Great stuff Earl. Thanks love the beginning lol 😂
Great info. I picked up a used 2.5 jato servos were locked up I pulled the plug out turned by hand kinda hard. So I hooked up the easy start let it turn over for a minute I said heck let’s see if it runs. Put fuel in it hooked up the igniter, primed it and to my surprise, it fired and ran high idle so I gave it some more on ls tool a bit out from idle screw. Purred like a kitten. Temp got to 160 max just at 1 tank idle with some manual blips. Swapped out servos and somehow burnt up a new steering servo and reciever (small lil 2s battery hooked up as I plugged it in magic smoke appeared. Yikes. I swapped the motor with my 3.3 jato that runs until warm then won’t run again. Will see how she goes. Hope it shifts. Will see. New 3.3 on the way so will have to rebuild it. Keeping nitro alive here for sure. 👍 cheers
Helpful video man thanks, my T-Maxx has been doing this a lot and I’ve been slowly working on getting it to idle properly. Idle gap only does so much, I’ve probably had more success with richening the LSN and the one mistake I kept doing was trying to readjust it when it was running cold.
Earl another great vid on adjusting the low speed needle earl ,love all the content keep up the good work and u and your family have agreat holliday weekend later 👍👍😎😎
Hey man thank you so much for the help I really appreciate it I’ve just made a video on my channel explaining my jato 3.3 had a run away when I started it because the factory left the low speed too lean and I had to richen it up to give it a steady idle. Nitrogang
I got everyone ready to go to my local track and ended up waiting 2.5 hours for batteries to charge and in my mind I had you saying you just fill it up grab a jump pack and go. Really makes me 🤔 but with gas prices imma stay electric
I got the double idle on my Revo 3.3 too, having a hard time getting rid of it. JQ Racing says it's too lean on HSN so once you let go of the trigger it stays high before the rich idle gives it enough fuel to drop down. But I haven't been able (yet) to get rid of it, need to mess around with it some more. Also, a fouled Traxxas glow plug was causing me all kinds of headaches getting it to run properly until I changed it after the 5th break-in tank.
I never did much nitro but did work on chainsaws so it wasn't real hard for me to get mine running the way at least I'd like to see one run .I have the 2.5 JATO
Idles to hight and mixture is off lower idle need to set air gap then go back to traxxas start up settings best just out hybrid rc channel he can get you going
That jato still got some get up and go looks like it gets squirrely every time you gave it fuel. does it have tsm traxxas stability management being a older jato
Hey im kinda late to your channel but i have a quick question. Im buying a skidplate for my Arrma bigrock v3 and in the picture they used big rock v2 Do they share the same chassic? it would be really nice if they did but from what i saw from your vid 1 year ago they looked very similar.
Just curious as to why the switch doesn't hook up for you? different connectors? Never really had to switch out a switch based on a receiver. Love the squirrelliness of the 2wd Jato! =0) Rigged mine for more of offroad. Dirt tires changed shocks, differential oil etc.
Call it what you will and no pun intended but It's not really a double idle but more being too lean on the low speed needle. It's like it hesitates to idle after you have come to a stop. It kinda hangs then idles down. When this happens, that means you need to open the low speed needle until you notice the idle drop. Also...always make your adjustments when the engine has warmed up. (Not that you didn't already know this but more for anyone else who has this problem)
JQ racing tv has referred to this as a double idle I tend to watch videos and do research that makes sense to me as it has two idles 🤔but this is the thing so many ppl tend to call everything differently in the nitro hobby it puts other new comers off from trying it 💯💯
Anytime I get the double idle I reset everything back to factory setting and then set the Idle Gap a wee bit less and start from there until I know the Idle is too low then I open the gap a little and then.. I start fiddling with the low speed needle rich or lean depending on temperatures, Nitro percentage.. etc.. however you do it as long as you get to the point you want it in the end and your not burning the motor down.. thats what counts :)
And what do you use to set this idle gap with ? What tool are you using 🤔some say a paper clip but there are to many sizes for that some say a pin 📌 but those also vary 🤷🏻♂️traxxas didn’t send an idle gap gauge🤔so how is a new person supposed to run his nitro 🤷🏻♂️

@earlmoorhead5555 it happened to be my clutch shoes and spring, once changed i was back good.
My fix was the clutch shoes and spring. Once changed all was ok, hope this helps anyone.
@XenBeastmode the springs do go bad for sure 👍
Hi Earl, your method of canceling the two stage idle is to richen the LSN even more? Thanks
Idk about a two speed idle I know if it’s a hight idle then with heat it goes even higher richen the LPN will stop that 👌
That jato still got some get up and go looks like it gets squirrely every time you gave it fuel. does it have tsm traxxas stability management being a older jato
Idk I know my futaba radio has TSM off as I replaced receiver
Heck yeah dude!
Looks like you have the idle dialed. I have found a hot glow plug and or a air leak will cause a high idle. Traxxas recommends a medium glow plug.
Yes I only use med and traxxas flow plugs but I haven’t replaced this one in years
Any speed runs in the near future?? Curious how fast the jato is.

Back then they had a switch port in the receiver now they don’t just a battery port the switch port needed power to turn the receiver on
