I find it darkly humorous that Ellie ends up killing the original Joel in this. And of course, this has the moment anyone familiar with the game's story was waiting for: "It's okay. It's okay, baby girl. I've got you. I've got you." And with that, the father/daughter bond is officially sealed.
13:10 I relate so hard to Vanessa's reaction in this part, I also started to hyperventilate (tbh, crying too). Their acting making it so realistic, it's very overwhelming.
i love the vibe that that town suspected, James knew but was conflicted but knew the town would die. the implied abuse of Hannah by David.. there was a whole other episode going on about the town that we just didn't see. Amazing for a show to bring that level of subtly and underlying story to characters/a town that had such little screen time..
This is the most engaging and thrilling episode so far. Bella is perfection as Ellie and Scott Shepherd did a fantastic job as David. Pedro gave a really emotional moment with Bella in the end
The idea of David, "Found God," after the apocalypse really adds to the horror because he truly believed that what he was doing is divine righteousness. I was smiling like a cartoon villain after Ellie turned David's face into ground beef. It was really nice to see Troy Baker's cameo, but the actor who played David really brought the character to life. Also, Bella Ramsey's role as Ellie in this episode really pulls you scene after scene. How she put on this tough, no-nonsense exterior when she first confronted and interacted with, and then later, she turned to pure rage mixed with fear. And when she's reunited with Joel, she just stutters her words and just pure shock on her face that she's no longer alone, but is deeply shooked by what David tried to do to her, and what she did. Also, I really love how we get a glimpse into David's community. Especially the dining scene where we could only hear the sound of people eating in silence, no conversation, just the amplified sound of spoons hitting the bowls as they were scraping and not wasting a bit of food. It really adds to the subtlety of the horror and tension in the atmosphere. Was it really venison that they were eating? Also, I didn't notice David's bowl being bigger than everybody else's until you two pointed it out. Nice attention to detail, really alludes to his God complex/superiority complex. :)
That scene with them all eating was also David feeding the dad to his daughter without her knowing. I don't know if I could back and watch that scene with that in mind. Also the fact that he no longer was a teacher after the apocalypse is worse when you think he probably needed a "career" change, now that he didn't have classrooms full of little girls with him anymore
I think people missed that David isn’t actually religious, he mocks his people for needing God and heaven and admits what he’s really talking about is cordyceps.

This episode was packed. Ellie learned from Joel and can handle herself. Joel wakes up becomes ruthless again. Cannibals make great bad guys. Reminds me of the walking dead episode terminus. The leader has a Jim Jones-david koresh vibe.
I do love the fact they can swear in this, it's the only thing that was totally wrong with the walking dead, I'd definitely be f'ing and blinding like Ellie does if it were me in those situations 😂

This shows there are two types of people out there. Those who saw Ellie kill David and cheer for the bloodshed, and those who just feel bad for a little girl having to murder someone like that. Their 2 different reactions to that scene really shows that dichotomy.
I felt both because even though I rooted for Ellie killing David, it made me feel so sad that a 14 year old should kill like that to survive. But in an apocalypse, the world is fucked up so ...gotta do anything to survive
