This episode-minus a few scenes- was almost exactly like the game. The acting in this one was so good: Bella was incredible. I could feel her fear and it was awful. Her and Joel at the end made me tear up😢 The man who played James is Troy Baker. He is the voice and MOCAP actor for Joel in the game. Loved seeing him here!
Craig Mazin the showrunner said this about the Tess kiss: Tess being kissed by the infected is underscoring the theme of love and the way love functions because the fungus loves too. David also says the fungus loves...
This was my favorite episode from the series! I really loved episodes 3 and 5 as well and haven't played the game either but after finishing the show I watched some walkthroughs online. They filmed in Alberta, Canada.
I enjoy watching your reaction videos almost as much as I enjoy watching the show. It’s great watching through the eyes of someone who hasn’t played the game and your takes/reactions are great!
The banner “When We are in Need He Shall Provide” is in the game, but the David Character is not a preacher. His past is unknown, but he does lead a group of survivors who follow his every whim, including becoming cannibals. In the show, the people know that venison is human meat, but they are desperate and hungry under David’s rule, so they reluctantly eat the dead. Hannah does realize that if her father is not buried, he will be consumed by the people, and that is why she requests explicitly for his burial in the cold.
I haven't played the game but from what I gathered from David's back story was that he was and always will be a predator. He used to be a teacher so he worked around minors. He openly admits he has always had a violent heart and he loves when they fight back. It makes sense reading the body language from the others after he slaps that girl. People getting scraps and he gets a double portion. He loves that people depend on him and it feeds his "God complex". Again, that's just my take. I could be wrong
@@jessicamorgan2438 David in the show is creepier than the game version. He literally leads a cult. Game David is a smart and fearless leader who you think is a good guy at first impression.
Yeah, it is odd to me that so many people don’t understand the concept of liking a character for the sake of the story doesn’t mean you agree with or identify with the character. I often wonder how those people ever enjoy anything. Not to be mean, but it seems very stupid to me.
Well that was "venison", not vension. Though people always react in a way to cannibalism, however it's not like they showed David's group actively hunting people for food.
they are trying to to a series like was in the 90´s. each episode is just a specific plot and once is done, next episode is something new. Opposite to what is doing today. Each season have a specific plot and during several episodes, its explore the same! Unlike other shows, LOU try to focus on human aspect, and the infected/infection is just the background story! This also happened in TWD, but inicially was focus in the zumbies, and when it happen, people kinda started to not enjoy, because there was no zombies! Bella acting was amazing! And probably we are saying an Oscar/Emmy material!
It pretty clear to me, still the show doesn’t have to tell you everything. When James starts eating you see him struggling, you see the ear and David and Ellie has some dialogues that literally confirm it so yes, it was clear. The guy that tried to hit Joel with a baseball bat and Joel broke his neck, well his daughter, was eating her own father without knowing it.
@@gerardmcquade9102 Then the storytelling went over your head, doesn’t mean it wasn’t clear for everyone else because there’s multiple scenes that literally confirms it😉
Don’t disrespect the game like that. This show was only ever possible because of us hardcore og last of us fans made it happen wich is based majority off the game . Couldn’t imagine that many people watching this first and never played the game being out over a decade as there also a gamer on top of it . And the games better then the show in so many ways . If you don’t care about the game then you clearly don’t care about the show . Best game adaptation ever . It’s just nice seing it in live action in terms of cgi / environments. Seing a game that’s obviously pixel that comes to life is the best and coolest thing to see after experiencing the game . It’s like us fans being fans of comics or books seing a movie or show being made cause of it and as people will say things it’s based of is better like the game of thrones books better then the show and same with Harry Potter with comparing that or even marvel stuff to the comics to the live action films
The game is THE ORIGINAL! Doesn’t matter how many Dirty Dancing movies they’ll make. It’s only ONE TRUE Dirty Dancing. The video game is flawless, the TV show can be that as well but not on the same level. Put respect on it.
@@AnayaImari exactly, most things in the show feel forced even tho i think the show good it will never be anything as good as the game which is arguably top 3 games of all time
@@Qtlika YESSS!! I didn’t want to be the one to say it but there was the scene with Ellie and Joel in the car with Bill’s magazine. Omg, it felt soooo forced. I still cried because it was just a great moment to see them put this in the live film but I still didn’t feel as emotionally connected to them like I do with the game.
@@Qtlika Wrong, there’s multiple scenes that the show has improved and made them better. I don’t remember every single scene of the episodes but of the top of my head: Ep1 the scene with the infected neighbors with the POV of Sarah is better and more tense than Jimmy just breaking through the window door and Joel killing him. The plane crash scene is better than the car scene, it was more sense and cinematic. Ep2 Yess death scene in the game is vs FEDRA and it was more for her because she only killed two of them and we still had to fight them, in the show it was badass, heroic and ACTUALLY helped Joel and Ellie. And the Clicker scene. Ep3 Everything was an improvement so I don’t need to mention anything in specific. Ep4 Bryan death scene, the raiders crashing Joel’s car with trap was better than the conveniently and perfectly timed truck making Joel crash. And the joke scenes Ep5 There’s a lot of scenes but obviously the most specific scenes is the horde and the child Clicker. Seeing Ellie reaction to Henry suicide was better too Ep6 Joel telling Tommy that Ellie was immune was WAYYYY better in the show. And the injury scene. In the game Joel is superhuman and there’s no way anyone would’ve survived what happened in the game so in the show was more realistic and better. Ep7 Ellie reaction to being bitten and Joel grabbing her hand Ep8 Ellie POV terrified of David So there’s better scenes done in the show and I am sure I am forgetting others but there’s better scenes in the show so stop it.
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 like i said the whole sarah pov part was better so including the neighbors, plane crash everything, but no joel wanting to know about ellie and laughing about her jokes is super out of character joel is supposed to be closed off and ellie is supposed to ask everything yet they switched it up, the death of henry imo wasnt better it felt really rushed, the bill ep was amazing but you cant rlly compare that part to the game cuz its way to different, the impale scene, why should it be realistic like have you ever seen a clicker in ur garden lets be fr, also they just made joel so weak hes almost unable to protect ellie which just shouldn’t be, also the pacing for me feels horrible most things feel so rushed like the torture scene in this new ep and so many other things
I was SO increasingly uncomfortable every time David was on screen. Amazing performance on the actor’s part
Same here. David, in both the show and the game is one scary fucker.
The character who played James, David's right hand man was the voice actor for Joel in the games.

Agreed
Troy Baker who plays James in the the episode is the voice and MOCAP actor who plays Joel in the video games.
I thought he looked familiar.

Perfect timing! I JUST finished the episode!

When Joel said “it’s okay, I believe him.” It had huge Negan vibes
I just realized david fed that girl her father
Some pretty feral rage from Ellie this episode. Joel's desperation for Ellie's location also drives his violence.

Bro I don’t blame you man I kept comparing this show to the walking dead when it aired ! 😂
David played in the El Camino movie!!! I didn’t notice at first but I’m sure if you seen Breaking Bad you’ve watched the movie as well.
Oh yeaahhh! That's what I knew him from
She went full Tommy Jarvis on his ass
First time she really had to fight hand to hand with a grown man and kill him. It will stay with her.
