UV resin had a tendency to “shrink” when curing! That’s why you got those weird edges! It’s way more effective and it doesn’t move around the resin like a heat gun does! :) it looks amazing!

Even more fun make it a detailed scene in the centre of a patterned stained glass window like object so all the 'test' parts can end up supporting acts for centre piece! Either leaning into their differing thickness for effect - perhaps make it an arched chest lid or something similar or just bulking up the thin ones without doing the layers of paint - which with a deep pour epoxy of the same refractive index will be pretty easy. (perhaps with some extra layers added to the lowest layer counts should they be uninspiring, and if you surround the thicker star of the show with other layers it helps constrain that extreme viewing angle where the 3d effect starts to look excessively wonky).

Such a cool project! I think it might be interesting to see you do a layered glass painting, mostly because it would a) enable you to go back and fix a layer if something is wonky b) would get rid of the limitations of resin (the curing time, the bubbles, etc.)
i actually thought the resin layers would be separate, and that she would bind them later like a book. and then i realized, how was she going to keep the layer thickness even, why not just use something else instead of resin?
I think the only reason you would use resin instead of glass/plastic sheets is if you painted in the wet resin instead of on top of it. I think I have seen that done with fish painting.
That looks so cool! so much depth 3 to 7 layers seems like alot of work but 100!!! wow fun experiment! keep up the awesome work : ) i'm always inspired to create after watching your vids!
I congratulate you on completing this epic art piece, I learned a lot from watching it. However the depth / 3D effect isn’t really showing up on camera, it might be better in person. Also if you ever wanted to try a scaled down version of this I’ve seen videos were people paint koi fish and dragons in small bowls that look amazing.
The reason why the sides look like that and why it pops out so easily is that when curing, UV coatings shrink due to the internal stress caused by the radical polymerization of the acrylate groups present in the resin. Love the end result!

i have an old boat building and repair book, in it the author talks about The Moaning Chair, i think the little montage at the start of this video captured the sentiment perfectly haha
Take some fine sandpaper to the sides to take out some of the ripples then use a buffing/polishing wheel to bring out the shine. I would also go with rounding off the top corners some to match the paint effect you have going on.
It looks STUNNING! FYI, If you or anyone else try this againmaybe try slicing with Cura slicer and make sure to display the Color scheme by Line Type. I think it will guide you more and also, maybe try painting in reverse? I mean frontmost layer first then revert to the rearmost layer at the end? I feel like it may look awesome even at only 10 layers thick...
In your slicing program, you could set the background to white and the model to a dark color and use a projector to overlay the image. In Cura, at least, you can also isolate that single layer by dragging from the bottom of the slider when selecting the layer. So the previous layers won't show up.
I know it might not be something you want to hear, but acrylics during the initial cure process release some gases, so they can create extra bubbles. In theory leave the acrylics to cure exposed to air for 3 days would be the safe (but very slow) way to reduce the chance of bubbles appearing.
Before you started talking about that 3d soft layering all the 100 layers, i was like "Noooo, do your sketch on a painting soft, and taste hell with that 100 layers but at least it'll be easy to follow the layer by layer painting with the soft once it's done!" But then you showed up and I just bowed...Da Queen and King of handcrafting , props to you guys
