I went to a big store here in London yesterday that was selling Seiko watches. From about 10 models that were close to the display glass, half of them had misaligned bezels. There was also a solar powered dive watch and the seconds hand was spot on… in between the indices.🤷♂️
I had a Samurai that had to be sent in Japan to have its dial replaced. Both the first and the replacement dials were slightly misaligned. Still a nice watch though.
Thanks for another year of great content, Jodi. I agree 100% with the Seiko beef. The QC needs sorting out. The misalignment on that Presage gives me palpitations! But on the other side of the coin, that Orient is actually growing on me. The quirky, slightly mad, aesthetic has some appeal. Not a daily wear, but if you're feeling a bit frivolous & having an IDGAF day, it's perfect. Thanks again, Jodi.
My favourite watch is the last one I made, having gone from being nervous about swapping out watch bracelets, to sourcing parts from Aliexpress and assembling it myself (your videos covering mods, especially the SKX ones, were invaluable!)
The one of the most enticing features of that studio underdog chrono is that for once, a watch maker understands how annoying it is for the second hand to block the brand name/logo below the 12! It took a micro brand to figure it out! Way to go underdog! Great video Jody, btw. Happy holidays mate.

Excellent run down Jody. I was initially a bit mystified by comments about Seiko's lacklustre qc. I'm a Seiko fanboy and I have plenty of them, all aligned perfectly. It was then that I realised that buying from my local Seiko seller, he was picking the good ones for me. QC wasn't the reason I only bought in person, but now I'm glad I do, with qc now added to my list of reasons including personal service, decent warranty and the free glass of Turkish tea! He has even serviced and re-calibrated watches for me outside of the warranty period for free. I will continue to avoid buying online, until JOMW tells me that it's all OK now!😉
I've had at least 18 Seikos now, from the Turtle to the Marinemaster 300, not counting my quartz Grand Seiko. Out of all of them, only one misaligned bezel and, on a $1200 6R15 watch, a misaligned hour hand(!). Yes, they do need to work on their QC, but, I think a bunch of fanboys of other brands are clearly overstating the case.

It might be like anything else, people only talk about the faulty product. 10,000 people might buy a particular Seiko online, but the only one who will talk about it will be the one with the misalignment. It's likely not as big a problem as people think. Just like for example a million cars can be recalled because 10 of them have a safety issue. I think that TH-camrs are particular responsible for possibly making a mountain out of a molehill. Why? Nobody actually knows the failure rate. Nobody knows, out of for example a production run of 50,000 PADI divers, how many have misalignment. It might be only a few pieces, but those few watches will ALL appear on social media sites and TH-cam.

Thank you for another year of stellar watch videos. I agree with almost all of your ratings here. Well, save for 2 anyway. The Orient SK reissue - truly a uniquely ugly watch, but I like it. I'm old enough to remember these the first time around so the nostalgia vibe is strong for me. The Tudor Pelagos - what could I dislike about that? I love that it is an actually attainable watch, The movement is awesome. The clasp isn't. That kind of looks like it was sourced from AliExpress. That is not my chief complaint. I do not like the hour hand. Everyone goes on about the 'unique snowflake design'. Don't see it. The blocky shape looks to detract from legibility. Plus, when I look at it I don't see a snowflake. I see a catheter. And I don't want that vision staring back at me whenever I read the time. I do truly appreciate your videos and am looking forward to what is yet to come. Great advice about bambino trap . I stop buying orients after they went 39 mm diameter and up . Everyone did . Now just have to wait for 38mm small second hand bambino . Dream come true for me orients back to 38 mm .

And I've been very anxiously awaiting this particular top 5/bottom 5 review- if you remember when you reviewed the Zelos Mako (3 I belive) you were so confident that the titanium Mako 3 would appear on the top 5 list, so I bought to of them - a gorgeous blue Mother of Pearl and (because Jody had something against blue watches) I bought the green/gilt Mako 3 ti as well - now that your ⬆️5⬇️5 video has come and gone without so much as a whimper about Zelos (good or bad) what gives? Jody - great vid. agree with most points (and so glad you were back up and running after 12 hours. I watched your video straight after it happened, and was touched by the whole watch community). I want to thank you for a great year of content. I got on the ride this year, much to my wife's chagrin. I started the year with one watch, a Citizen Promaster Chrono that was a gift from my dad in the early 90s that needs a new movement, which has been hard to find, to say the least. Now I have a watch box with 4 automatics (1 Spinnaker, 2 San Martins, and a Timex), 3 g-shocks, a Casio, and a Timex expedition. The expedition was the "will I actually wear a watch on a daily basis" test purchase, I'm in my 50s so acquiring new habits can be a struggle, old dogs and new tricks, etc. I'm on the waiting list for Helm (Vanuatu, both stainless and Titanium), I don't expect that I'll be getting that opportunity till 2023. Love your channel, Love the t-shirts, and I'm looking forward to 2022's content. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

Personally I would have the new Omega Seamaster Pro 300 above the Tudor Pelagos. I already have a Bond Seamaster Pro bought new in 2000 and the new one is a better size for my wrist. Wasn't happy with the quality of the Pelagos when I went to look at 1 at the AD. I already also own 3 Steinhart homages and think they are really good quality for the money. Agree. While there is nothing wrong w the Tudors the Omega is better. And supporting Rolex in any way shape, or form until they get their ADs under control makes it a no for me. Offering Tudors as a consolation prize isn’t going to work.

Wrt Seiko 6R35 and snow on the time grapher, I have a Sarb17 that when new had one position that looked like a Jackson Pollack painting. That cleared up (well, mostly) with a trip to warranty service.

Jody, thank you so much for another GREAT video. I have to tell you that one of "MY" five worst watch moments this past year was when TH-cam cancelled your channel. I was shocked and at the same time I was angry at TH-cam for putting you through that. Like you said, it turned out great for you. You are one of four people I watch regularly (TGV, MWC and Bark & Jack being the other three). You always give honest reviews and don't pull any punches. You are very straightforward and operate with integrity and that is just a few of the reasons why your fan base love you and always look forward to watching your shows. It's always wild to me how you can look forward to "seeing" someone you've never met. Have a Very Merry Christmas. I'm looking forward to 2022 with you. It's been a tough three weeks for me in 2021 (I lost two people both very unexpectedly, one 30 years old and the other 64). I know this upcoming year is going to be our best yet! You're right about Bulova. I have an Aerojet - yay! But the other Bulovas you showed - egads! As for your brief deletion - it's scary to think that minor clerks at TH-cam have that kind of life-and-death power - a bit like border guards in the 1930s (Germany) or 1950s (Hungary).
Jody, I completely agree with you on the Seiko 6R35 movement. I have had a few of them and they never seemed to perform well. I actually had to send a couple back to get fixed. It was always very disheartening to see their Timegrapher results. I actually think the NH35a (4R36) is a better movement with regard to performance and reliability.

My Kamasu simply got buried and forgotten, until you mentioned it here. I was immediately reminded of how much I love that watch. So, I took off the Khacki King I was wearing, walked back to the bedroom, found the Kamasu and changed out my daily wrist selection. Thanks for that, brother!

I have watched your review of the Dan Henry 1972 a few times as I am debating whether or not to pick one up. I was born in 72, so if my math is correct I'm turning 50 next year! (Yikes!) Awesome wrap up for the year. My highlight for the year os the Citizen Godzilla Singular Point Prodiver. I was able to barely order what I think was the last red one in Japan before it sold out. It rarely leaves my wrist. Which leads me to, where did you get that Gojira shirt? I love it.

If the store has to do QC rather than the factory there's going to be HUGE problems with online purchases....

The expedition was the "will I actually wear a watch on a daily basis" test purchase, I'm in my 50s so acquiring new habits can be a struggle, old dogs and new tricks, etc. I'm on the waiting list for Helm (Vanuatu, both stainless and Titanium), I don't expect that I'll be getting that opportunity till 2023.

Personally I would have the new Omega Seamaster Pro 300 above the Tudor Pelagos. I already have a Bond Seamaster Pro bought new in 2000 and the new one is a better size for my wrist. Wasn't happy with the quality of the Pelagos when I went to look at 1 at the AD. I already also own 3 Steinhart homages and think they are really good quality for the money. Agree. While there is nothing wrong w the Tudors the Omega is better. And supporting Rolex in any way shape, or form until they get their ADs under control makes it a no for me. Offering Tudors as a consolation prize isn’t going to work.

Wrt Seiko 6R35 and snow on the time grapher, I have a Sarb17 that when new had one position that looked like a Jackson Pollack painting. That cleared up (well, mostly) with a trip to warranty service.

Jody, thank you so much for another GREAT video. I have to tell you that one of "MY" five worst watch moments this past year was when TH-cam cancelled your channel. I was shocked and at the same time I was angry at TH-cam for putting you through that. Like you said, it turned out great for you. You are one of four people I watch regularly (TGV, MWC and Bark & Jack being the other three). You always give honest reviews and don't pull any punches. You are very straightforward and operate with integrity and that is just a few of the reasons why your fan base love you and always look forward to watching your shows. It's always wild to me how you can look forward to "seeing" someone you've never met. Have a Very Merry Christmas. I'm looking forward to 2022 with you. You're right about Bulova. I have an Aerojet - yay! But the other Bulovas you showed - egads! As for your brief deletion - it's scary to think that minor clerks at TH-cam have that kind of life-and-death power - a bit like border guards in the 1930s (Germany) or 1950s (Hungary).
Jody, I completely agree with you on the Seiko 6R35 movement. I have had a few of them and they never seemed to perform well. I actually had to send a couple back to get fixed. It was always very disheartening to see their Timegrapher results. I actually think the NH35a (4R36) is a better movement with regard to performance and reliability.

I suppose this happens to all of us who collect. But my collection is getting deep enough that I am starting to forget what is on all of the winders. My Kamasu simply got buried and forgotten, until you mentioned it here. I was immediately reminded of how much I love that watch.
So, I took off the Khacki King I was wearing, walked back to the bedroom, found the Kamasu and changed out my daily wrist selection.

Congratulation on a successful year! I only came across your channel in the last year and really enjoy your personable, unpretentious reviews - I even picked up a couple of inexpensive items based on your reviews (a Casio Royale and a Vostok Komandirskie, I love them both!). I have watched your review of the Dan Henry 1972 a few times as I am debating whether or not to pick one up. I was born in 72, so if my math is correct I'm turning 50 next year! (Yikes!)

That said, while I watch this video I was wearing my 45 year old Seiko that runs perfectly and has been serviced just once in its life. Every time I look at it I think of my parents who gave it to me

Awesome wrap up for the year. My highlight for the year os the Citizen Godzilla Singular Point Prodiver. I was able to barely order what I think was the last red one in Japan before it sold out. It rarely leaves my wrist. Which leads me to, where did you get that Gojira shirt? I love it.

I'm at the point now where I feel like the best thing about anything Seiko is the NH35 movement but that's plugged into nearly every microbrand in the sub $500 bracket & I'm frankly bored of it.
That Bulova A-15 was so cool imo that it made my Christmas List. Here's hoping I get it!
