Thanks for posting Andrew. I note you mentioned in an earlier post that you don't use fixative on the panels. Could I ask how you protect the finished work. Do you mount it behind glass?
Hi Andrew. Excellent charcoal artwork. The little boat gives a great sense of scale. Liking the recent oil paintings for your forthcoming exhibition of the North Coast. Cheers 😊
Do you know - no of course you don't, why would you? - I've never yet drawn in charcoal on a gesso'd board; on all sorts of paper, yes, but never on a board. Right, that's my next job then. Brilliant job, as always. Getting the impression Basil wants attention: which, of course, he deserves.
Just recently caught your channel and I like it very much. With the charcoal drawings, do you fix it shortly after the drawing is finished? How exactly do you do that? Thanks.
Basil would make a wonderful charcoal drawing Andrew. Maybe that was what he was going on about. Perfect subject and already black and white.
Definitely - one for this winter I think
Your charcoal drawings and paintings are fantastic…thanks for producing such wonderful videos.
Thank you so much Kath 😀 I appreciate your comments
Love the charcoal drawing. I definitely think Basil wants his portrait done. He’d look good as a charcoal drawing!
I think so too - it will be something I will do this winter

That is correct - glass is the only way to fully protect the charcoal if you don't fix it. Glad you enjoyed the video

thanks for posting this very informative video Andrew, fabulous drawing.
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you 🙏🏻
Lovely work, do you apply fixative to the finished work?
Sometimes in my sketchbook but rarely for finished work as it alters the subtle qualities of the willow charcoal

Basil will have his portrait done in charcoal this Winter. He deserves that much for helping with the videos

Great exercise. Why did you choose a plywood panel over paper?
Thank you. I like to try different supports. Paper gives a softer finish to my charcoals
Love this Andrew. Now will you fix it somehow? I’m new to charcoal!
Thank you very much. I will frame behind glass to protect it, although glass is quite expensive nowadays
Tres beau dessin.
Jadore regarder ce que vous faites.
