    That must be a magic palette you have as all those colours and blocking get done yet no trace on palette and very little paint also. Balancing it on your hand looks so awkward.
    Love your work Andrew, looking forward to seeing this getting finished off in your studio.

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt

      Thanks Jim. I will try and finish it one day. Shame it didn’t make the exhibition. I never normally balance the palette like this but I forgot to take my French easel

    It’s so freeing how you loosely block out the basic shapes and colors and then build it up from there. After the beautifully detailed charcoals this one was quite refreshing. I may try it myself! Tho maybe not so large. 😊

    Trying to translate how you do oils into acrylic. Think I will need to get some acrylic repartee/ extender or go for an acrylic with long dry time.

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt

      A way of slowing acrylic drying would be good - especially if working outdoors in the summer

    Wonderful work, Andrew. The looseness of working this large really adds something overall, I think. The sky is very expressive and you have reminded me to scrape back into and reapply for more random-looking cloud forms. May I ask (if you filmed this one by yourself), how did you get so many different camera angles? Doesn’t it impede your workflow? Any filming tips appreciated! Looking forward to the finish on this piece. ~Rhonda

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Rhonda
      thank you - I film by myself (unless my daughter is on holiday and wants to help!). I tend to stop for a coffee break every so often and that's when I setup to do some different camera viewpoints. Filming does impede the natural workflow but I'm getting used to it now. Good luck with your painting

    You're the second plein-air painter I see on TH-cam in two days who gets an unbalanced composition partly because of a more or less canvas' square format. The sky and town strips were too narrow compared to the water and woods parts that will end up being huge plain blocks, which won't look particularly appealing. Not to mention that the water seems to be a dropping down surface rather than a horizontal one. Sorry for saying what I see, but the video is pleasant to watch. Salutes from snowy Mount-Lebanon.

    • @AndrewBarrowmanArt
      @AndrewBarrowmanArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I soon realised after about 5 minutes of painting that the square format was going to result in lots of compromises. I had intended to paint the view out to sea which would have suited square perfectly.
      I will try and rescue it in the studio but if not - I will paint over it and the canvas will have a new life 👍🏻

    • @joypinturra6151
      @joypinturra6151 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I noticed his other pieces from his website are not balanced compositions as well...the foreground are off and as you pointed out here...the water, and land dropping down...
      It amazes me that many painters get their own shows...
      This canvas - the entire landscape is off....especially the foreground....
      He needs a view finder perhaps that may help him, and read Edgar Payne's book on composition and Carlson's Landscape book....
      Sorry as well....that's what I see...
      Your snow paintings the snow is falling forward - the viewer is lying down - always think of giving a place for viewers to stand in scene...
      That's such a waste of canvas here. .
      Your newest video- the water doesn't look like water...as your seascapes on your website? Very abstract, wouldn't understand it's of ocean without a title...

    I’m a little bit conflicted about the bottom part that I think you’re also conflicted about. Part of me wants to think that it’s a happy accident and I like it. I’d be tempted to leave it alone for a while and live with it. It’s one of those things where if you did something to it, would it not be as good? I don’t think it detracts in any way. One of those dicey decisions to be made but your skill will probably prove out.
