There are a LOT of different ways to use charcoal for drawing! Here are the ones I use and how.

When I sharpen my 2mm lead I put the graphite shavings in a tiny container. Works great for quick gestures where you want to capture the lighting as well as the gesture. Love all you people that use ash and graphite to do amazing things 😊

I use a razor to expose more of the tip and then sandpaper it into a bullet shape.

Comparing these mediums/strategies with what i was told to do in art class with brittle charcoal sticks that had very unpredictable hardness etc makes me feel a bit better about always thinking I'm missing something major when it comes to coal, it was bewildering to me that people actually enjoyed working with that sensory nightmare. People still might.. but all this makes it a bit better at least
