    Love the layout of the Pace Arrow...just not the chassis. Drove a Hurricane RV(34ft Ford F350 chassis, 460 v8 gas) across the country , a few years ago. It had plenty of power and got 6+ mpg honest mileage, but I had a 7.3 Powerstroke in the driveway at home and lusted for the power and performance the whole time! You're spot on about the axle location of most non-pusher RV-s.

    I just bought my 1996 Pace Arrow Monday, (Oct. 26th, 2020) looks very similar to your’s... I plan to get in there and clean it up tomorrow... “happy camper” here lol.. feel truly blessed! God is good!

    Those Fleetwood products are really well engineered and constructed. I have been living in one just like this (without the tag) and it has been more than satisfactory. Very nice.

    Nice looking unit! The batteries look like they froze, and glad you can fix these things! I just bought a 94 Holiday Rambler, and it needed work, but is well worth it ! I stay south of the Frozen line now!

    Very nice coach you got..Those Pace Arrow's have always been a great quality model from Fleetwood..just a higher level than the others..always liked them alot..You can see the quality in everything inside...I will tell you though that the P30 chassis has a known problem area with the AutoPark feature...I hated it..I had it on my old 97 Bounder that I had in 2007...Guess you have already had to do something to it anyway...Enjoy the RV and come on down to FL!! It was 39 here this morning!!! Quite chilly for us FL folks!!!

    We bought the exact same one July 2018, Carpet replaced with hard wood floors, interior lights converted to LED but ours is the Ford Chassis. 36b New Mexico rust free. We love it. We got it for $15,000 even. 48,000 miles.

    Nice Find JC. This one was right up your alley with some electrical chasing and solving and the hydraulics. What does amaze me is that someone bypassed that sensor, not the best idea cause you'd never know there was a leak. When you showed the batteries, my first thought was man, didn't these people look at them at all when they were having problems pop up, I mean start with the basics of troubleshooting and move from there along to the next step. All in all as you said minor fixes, but those are the kind a guy likes.. Honestly seem pretty decent, even after you do your fixes and change the things you mentioned and if you decided to keep it or sell, I would think you'd get your money back plus a little cash if you sold it lots of people still like RV-ing and lots can't afford what the new ones go for so , so the little machines like this still go for a good buck and fairly rust free would definitely be a good selling feature to some potential buyer.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i knew bout most of the issues before i bought it...i didnt know exactly what it was going to take to fix it. they had tried many things to fix the slide and the hydraulic jacks...they had it to a rv shop (repair tag was still hanging on it when we bought it). this was the second shop to look at it. they replaced the entire rv/chassis fuses and relay center. it obviously didnt fix anything. your right electrical and the hydraulic issues are right up my alley. all and all it took just a couple ours to find and fix the problems. it took longer to get the snow and ice off of it to get it down to the shop. i am happy with it. i think if i do decide to sell it, it should sell easy. maybe easier in the spring!

    I don't blame you for getting rid of it, I cut up a 93 pace and a 84 and they are built like crap. Seriously unsafe. It does look good, but motor homes are built on the cheap. I've got a video up of how they look when you cut them up if your bored.
    The tag is on there to support another ton, those moore ride setups are expensive to deal with. Mine was a 37'.
    I went with doing a school bus conversion.
    Yeah those are P30/32 gm chassis, again junk.

    Check the date on the tires...if they are five years old or older, change them as they are not safe, even if the tread looks good....they age from the inside and subject to blowouts......I owned a 1997 Pace Arrow Vision (purchased new in Myrtle Beach)...mine was on the Ford Chasis and didn't have the slideout...but, same length with the tag axle...at the time we didn't think we'd need the slide out...lol

      My guess is the folks that had it weren't using it much anymore or the issues that they were having were multiplying and they just got quoted a fortune or couldn't or didn't want top pour the money into solving them. Lots of folks do that with all sorts of recreational equipment and vehicles too, but I dont look at it as someone losing out, they want to get rid of it and get their money and the buyer gets something for what they think is reasonable and that they can either keep or flip, so everyone comes away with something from the transaction

    It seem motorhome manufactures love to add tail length, maybe it is the easiest/cheapest way to add internal area, and less customers care about handling/tail swing

  • @73Shakes
    @73Shakes 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not one hundred percent sure about this but I think that was a universal chassis. Depending on length of the RV, they would add to the frame and anything over a certain length they added the tag axle.
    Maybe someone here can conform that. Id like to know.
    Nice addition to your fleet lol have fun and enjoy it.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i dont know but i will get under it again and look at the frame. it looked like all factory frame. i did not see anything added on . i will look and let you know what i fine for your and my curiosity. this rv will be a short timer in the fleet as we are going to sell it.

  • @draizwrm
    @draizwrm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    the TAG is for the extra weight of the 36 RV
    the slide out is Hydraulic, and almost trouble free, its built heavier and stronger than the newer in wall electric motor slide systems, and NO gears and racks to jump out of sync
    i bought a 97 Bounder 36s in Sept 2017 same slide, but i got the Ford chassis and 460 V8

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is ironic that they would go through all the trouble to ad the tag axle at the factory for only 4000 lbs capacity....i would think a heavier rear axle moved farther back would have been a better choice....but they probably know better than me.

    • @draizwrm
      @draizwrm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      well, any large vehicle, pivots on the drive axle when you make turns
      the further the tag is from the drive axle, the more it will drag the tires sideways instead of a rolling turn, get several feet away (space inbetween), and they have to be steerable, or liftable or they wear out very very quickly

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i dont mean the tag axle should be farther away from the drive but the drive farther back on the chassis. i prefer a longer wheel base. it would ad weight to the steer axle also. which would be great in bad weather.

    • @draizwrm
      @draizwrm 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      J.C. SMITH PROJECTS
      Yes and that requires a longer heavier chassis like Freightliner Spartan etc.. Used on diesel coaches
      The P30 GM/workhorse is a gas engine chassis
      If you look at those long 45 ft Diesel RVs, you will find they also run tag axle and here tail swing
      Unless you want to spend $500,000 for a Prevost conversion

    Not sure you are r entertaining questions/comments from a 97 Pace Arrow you had 3 yrs ago but had to try.... I have virtually the same RV. Just picked up my first class A 96 PA Vision. Shore power everything works in coach. Unplug and nothing. Replaced 6v's in series which were dead w new charged 12v deep cycle. The Onan just clicks at the voltage regulator and does not turn over. No lights or anything in cabin if shoreline is disconnected. While running engine, getting 14v at chassis battery, no charge condition at coach battery. Any ideas on where to look? Tks for your help.

    • @robertlochmann8751

      I have the same RV and I had an issue with blown fuses on both sides of the inverter which prevented the coach batteries from receiving current from the regular RV generator and from my 2000 Honda generator the I hooked up to the city power RV electrical cord. So without the ability for current to go through your RV inverter your coach batteries will drain and not be able to charge and then everything is dead. To fix the problem I traced the lines and found the inverter which is located in the panel under the refrigerator/freezer just. The inverter is not as easy to access but it’s doable. On each side of the inverter there is a fuse and I had to use a mirror and small needle nose plier to be able to see the fuses in order to replace them. Both fuses were blown because I overloaded the current going into the RV by running my RV generator at the same time as running my external 2000 Honda generator while also having the engine running. Not a smart move on my part (but I was new at the time) so only have one source of current going in at a time to prevent overload. Anyway, as soon as I replaced those fuses and hooked up a source of current the coach batteries started to charge and eventually they were charged enough to turn over the RV generator. Hope this helps and if you know how to winterize the 36B using air compressor I could sure use some detailed step by step instructions especially how to ensure the ice maker and washer machine/dryer is supposed to be done in the process. Thanks !

    I have one of these , I like it but I have issues I'm trying to fix. Like the water system, it was set up permanently for a park. So who every did it took out the water pump, not only that but took out the whole plate in the utility cabinet so I'm at a loss as to know which line is what. I hooked up a pump but did not get water pressure, I hear bubbles in the hot water tank. I'm not sure as to which was the fill or the outlet from the water tank. Also my bedroom has a side and the people I got it from took out the bedframe to redo the flooring, obviously did not do things right and apparently destroyed the frame. Also pocket door is gone. If anyone has information or even pic of my issues I would be grateful. I'm trying to restore those items to the original.

      i would check the parking brake cables first. be sure they are connected and not stuck. then i would check the switch on the parking brake pedal assembly. many times the return spring in the parking brake assembly is worn and wont hold the pedal high enough to disengage the switch.

    They should have paid you to haul that motorhome away for all the little things that needed work. Wait until you fill up that tank, probably get you 5 or 6mpg. Can't wait to see what mods you do for more power and fuel economy.

    • @j.c.smithprojects
      @j.c.smithprojects  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh come on! its not like is was in bad shape or need major repairs...after a few hours of tinkering....everything works like it should. i saved thousands of dollars by buying it this way. i am not a rich man...buying it this way is the only way i could afford it. you dont buy a rv of this size and expect any fuel economy. my last one this size got between 7 to 8 mpg depending on hills or flat land and i am ok with that.

    I know that you are used to running in long(er) wheelbase trucks but I wonder if the shorter wheelbase makes it have a turning circle that car drivers can live with. My guess is no. It might also be true that Chevy makes a lot of these for School buses and the like, thus they are cheaper. Those have quite a tail swing too.

    • @BobPegram
      @BobPegram 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They ought to make a comedy with an RV like this. Make a standing joke that the driver always forgets about the tail swing when stressed and in a hurry. An RV was in a movie with Jack Nicholson driving it. Unfortunately, the movie wasn't that funny.

      i think any rv with 2 a/c units, electric water, washer/dryer should have a 50 amp cord.....you know what i was going to put on.....50 amps cord. i was on the roof today looking it over. looks like it was just sealed we picked it up from a shop. i assume they were having work done and just ran out of money.

    • @jeffcoldon1496
      @jeffcoldon1496 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea the thing is when the 30 melts it takes out my side outlet to. the worse are the fith weels with 3 ac units all wired on the same leg in the unit. the stupid manufacture does this not thinking. or you get the camper who uses a 30 to 50 adptor and plugs it in the a 30 to run every thing the worse are the fifth wheels weighing 16000 lbs on 2 7 k axels with 3200 lb tires had a guy this year come in with 4 spare tires wondering why he blows tires every so many miles I talked to a rep about this there aditude is some of the weight is on the hitch its good a full timer always over weights the unit they know this so they save money with only 2 axels instead of 3 I think they should use dual wheels and a 10 k axel on well I could go on and on I will say the older units are made better then the newer ones
