When I was born ( a very long time ago ) I lived in a 12ft Bluebird caravan until I was two and a half. I don't remember it of course. Then my sister was born and my dad bought a 27ft Travel Master caravan. Even today I get homesick for it. We had a real coal fire with chimney and a water tank heated by the fire. Water was from a hosepipe. It had two tiny bedrooms and a drop down double bed in the lounge, it folded up behind wardrobe doors in the day. It had little gas lamps high up on the walls but they burned the ceiling. Each evening we had light from a paraffin lamp with glass shade. We had a little gas cooker, the gas bottle was outside. Eventually the coal fire burned the wall of the water tank thin and we couldn't use it.Then had two paraffin heaters for heating. We lived like this ( on private land ) until I was 16. I was bullied at school and called 'Gippo'.I did my homework by torch light in my tiny bedroom. Our beds were 2ft wide, floor 2ft wide, length 5ft 6ins. Tiny wardrobe at the end on the floor area. We moved when a by-pass got built. By this time the seams of our caravan were sealed with putty and all the windows were sealed closed with putty, couldn't open them incase they dropped out. We got housed by the council. I'd never lived in a house, I HATED IT. All that brick and concrete above my head! No soothing rain on the roof, had to climb stairs, nightmares every night, trying to get home to the caravan and failing. For decades! They're not so often these days. Just thought I'd share this with you!

Govts should literally set up giant parks of these to use as transitional housing for people who CAN get out of homelessness with some financial help like section 8, or as permanent housing for people who are too far gone to get out of homelessness. Everyone deserves personal private place to live. This is a great set up.

Yes. If a true free market without state interference was allowed to operate in housing, I'm sure large residential caravan sites would be supplied and be a popular choice. Many people seem unaware that the present planning system is only a few decades old and that most of the present houses and other buildings were constructed before there were restrictions. They're all very nice and very sought after still. We don't need planning restrictions preventing demand from being supplied, and innovation from being implemented.

We had a Freedom Microlight Sport sport for a few years until my daughter became too heavy for the additional little bed we rigged up for her. That had a wardrobe and no loo. These days I need a loo facility in the van. We had such fun with it. These look perfect. The pop-up was great but looked grubby and was impossible to clean but you could get it in a garage.

Lived in my caravan for some years, working. I was alone in a small, 26 foot, high end trailer. The smaller, the easier to clean, the easier to repair, the easier to move, the easier to heat and cool. The one piece, fiberglass body, is so simple, so strong, so waterproof…water is the enemy. Their design and build seems an elegant solution to camping, much better than a tent. I think I would give one of these a go…from US, east Tennessee.

trade off of that is the bed looks like it's only realistically big enough for one person. If you're a solo traveller that's not a problem of course.
Lots of little caravans pop up on the market then disappear a year later after the buzz dies down. Hopefully the build quality of this one is good enough to give it some longevity, the small caravan part of the market has been ignored by the big manufacturers for years.

I will be happy to see these in the UK, I love eriba's, love the trillium outback caravans in the U.S, the retro revival is good even though it is not as good as real classic stuff, the price is way more than I would pay for a towing vehicle let alone the sleeping box behind, but that's probably the right price for the product 🤷‍♂️🙌

GALD that it IS fibreglass not aluminium. Fibreglass is, if course PLASTIC (with glass strands on the back, to stiffen it so it doesn't flex). Plastic is second only to wood, in keeping the cold out. And old wood caravans must have been heavy! But Aluminium is of course METAL, and therefore cold!

Hi Cameron you have just thrown our retirement discussion into total chaos lol. We were just talking about our little campervan size wise and cost of upgrading to much bigger one and this vlog appeared and auto played. It stopped us dead in our tracks! Looking a great product and sealed fibreglass as in our 30+ years of caravaning keeping damp out has been a issue for most. All the people involved should be proud of bringing product to market. So now we are negotiating a new situation. Best of luck to all and you may see us afterall.

For what it's worth, I've owned 5 different caravans in my lifetime, 3 of which were twin axle 4-6 berth vans with an onboard washroom, and my last van was a Go Pod which I sadly had to sell last year due to health issues.
In all of my vans with the washroom, I just ended up using it as an extra storage cupboard because the reality of an onboard toilet is just a lot more work - filling the water tanks, emptying the contents of the toilet cassette at an elsan point (a nasty job), cleaning it out, issues with damp due to inadequate ventiliation in the washroom.... the list goes on. I think the thought of having a washroom onboard is nicer than the reality if I'm being honest.
Most well-run campsites renovated their facilities during COVID so you'll find the toilets/shower rooms are a lot more plush than they used to be. Aside from having it there for midnight emergencies, caravan toilets/washrooms just don't stack up against a proper toilet/shower plumbed into the mains. I think Go Pods include a portable camping toilet in one of the cupboards which will save you running to the toilet block in the night. Just keep it strictly to number 1s :)

Well said, experience trumps starry eyed dreaming!
I've had two motor homes and a caravan, and lived in them for months at a time - never used the washrooms for those very reasons.
Condensation will definitely be an issue in these charming little caravans if the "utilities" are used ...

    • @CaravanConnoisseurDave-x9t
      @CaravanConnoisseurDave-x9t 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@lapsedluddite3381 I think a lot of us (myself included) are guilty into buying into the dream of a nomadic lifestyle in a camper/caravan that hollywood sells us, but that doesn't really mesh with reality in the UK. There aren't many places that you can truly 'off grid' where you would absolutely need a toilet/washroom so it does seem daft to spend more money on a van that has one, just to cover a 'what if?' scenario.
Your last point is very important too. This little van is fully fibreglass and the interior looks like it's made from ABS plastic, so condensation could be a big big issue, especially in humid weather. I could imagine waking up to drops of condensation falling on your face at night.

I’m in the U.S.A. And have a Happier Camper. This mini has a lot of the little things that I like about the HC, but the biggest thing that I love about the HC is that it has a rear hatchback. With the side entry you can walk through the camper and out the back. With the back open and sitting inside it’s like you’re outside, but inside at the same time. They also have a modular interior that can be removed in just minutes and used as a cargo trailer. They are extremely versatile and come in several different interior styles. Mine is what is called an HC1 studio and has a 2 burner stove, sink, fridge, shower and toilet also… this reminds me very much of my little camper… but I wouldn’t give up the rear hatch, it’s quite an amazing feature.

Horses for courses, the Go Pods are cheaper now and they've been sold in the UK for over 15 years (i think). Lots of little vans pop up, make a bit of an initial buzz and then disappear a year later because the build quality is found to be suspect or they just don't offer something different enough to tempt people from buying other better known vans.
Guess this one has the benefit of the washroom but i can't imagine it's going to be very practical, given the size. Washrooms in vans are overrated anyway, you can't really off grid in the UK and most site facilities are multitudes better than a low pressure onboard shower now too.

I follow a few Turkish TH-cam caravan channels and have been impressed with what they have on offer there. It is good to see that they are now available in the UK. For me, I would have much preferred the onboard water tank for winter camping at ski resorts. Also, I do wish that this had an aircon option. An absolute necessity for my climate. For the UK market though, I think that the choices that you have made are appropriate and good. Good job Cameron!

I hope this is the exception to the rule. Some of the turkish built vans i've seen - particularly the freedom 'carpento' - are shocking quality. They seem to just focus on creating knock off clones of bigger brand vans. This one looks like it took heavy inspiration from the barefoot caravans and possibly some of the smaller eribas.
Mind you, the average UK built van can be just as bad.

To Jenny Campbell. Like myself, you notice things like "sharp" corners on furniture more than other people do! My own particular pet hate - is kitchen islands. I would hate to think of a wet just- washed floor, and someone slipping and banging their head, on the corner of a kitchen island!
It's an almost irrational fear, but both you and I would be the SAFEST designers in the world, because we think of all these things! Would you do me a favour, if you would like to participate in my health research into a possible link to "bad birth", which most likely affects how some people worry unduly, sometimes? I was born delivered with forceps, and had to have chiropractic treatment for my neck as a result. That took 15 years because there are no chiropractors on the NHS to fix people after forceps deliveries. But after just 9 months, the nervousness around other people I had , was gone, because of chiropractic! But you can slightly see my neck is slightly twisted even so and I think this is perhaps why I still worry unduly about sharp things! If you want to help with my health research, please email me at nigelsworld@hotmail.co.uk, or call me on 07757 086885.

Firstly, let me say that I'm coming at this from the view of someone with a large twin axle caravan with a fixed bed, so these are not a caravan I would consider. However, as an upgrade from a tent I can see them suiting some people.
A couple of things I would point out, the lack of windows makes them look a little claustrophobic to me. In the lounge of our caravan we can sit and have a 270 degree view. The cupboards whilst being full length, with the doors not being that long it would be very difficult to get to stuff in the ends.
I imagine that these would be a weekend caravan and not used for extended breaks or tours.
Also, as you have to purchase from Leeds Caravans, wherever you live in the UK you would need to take it back there for any warranty work.

My only thoughts are that there seems to be a little lack of standard equipment such as the heater, and as stated a external BBQ and socket should be a standard item. I also think solar should be compulsory in all caravans. The awing looks pretty decent as well. I would rate it as 7 out of 10 so far and im sure by next year this will be heading upwards as the company sees what is selling. Ive looked at many caravans and the one that ticks all my boxes is the Tab 400 but the nucamp 4 berth boondock rather than the uk one thats only 3 berth. That the one someone should import.

Biggest advantage for many today is that being so light you can tow them behind most modern small cars.
Could you add an awning, asking because if you're going away for a long camping holiday adding an awning would mean you could not only put the loo outside in a partition (we did, we put a toilet tent with the loo in the awning when we lived in a caravan) but you could also put up a collapsible wardrobe for your clothing as well (long holidays require more clothing) and you could put a couple of beds out there for kids/adults as well.
These are really really well thought out and with a few extras would do for a family holiday as well as a couple's holiday.

The only thing that I’m not crazy about is the stove and sink in one unit with the one lid. I believe that they should be separated into two units. If not 2 units then at least with their own lids. The sink can potentially splash the burner and area and the stove could splatter the sink area.
