    Excellent review with lots of detailed information about the vehicle features and how they work. The 4Runner Offroad Pro truly is a great vehicle. Certainly not one with all the latest bells and whistles, but solid, reliable and a lot of fun.

    Excellent review! Just got my 2021 TRD Pro about 2 weeks ago and was just out at Oceano Dunes in Pismo Beach, Ca and it handled everything I threw at it with ease! Tore through some whoops ant 30mph and it said bring it on! I quit on some of the bigger dunes due to my own inexperience and not the limits of the vehicle!

      Glad you enjoyed the review and your new TRD Pro! Sounds like you're starting off on the right foot, not over doing it, but still getting out there. Now that’s how you do a review on the 4Runner TRD Pro!! 👍 I am a noob when it comes to 4x4 truck. I had a brand new Nissan Pathfinder Sport back in 2001, took it once on a trail on BC highlands and that was it. Been driving high performance cars ever since and with the pandemic lockdown, wife and I decided to leave the city and do outdoor adventures... I’ve made a deposit for ‘21 TRD Pro a few days ago and can’t wait to test what I’ve learned from your video. Great work bro! 👌✌️🇨🇦

    Absolutely love this vehicle and love this test thanks for doing it. Oddly enough this is the high-end truck I wouldn't mind seeing you do just an SR5 which has the old style transfer case you got a control knob and the only off-road selection you got is the A-Trak button. my son kind of odd to be wanting to test out the the lower dollar version but that's probably the more popular version for people to buy because it's cheaper. Anyway you did a good job thanks!

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and commenting. If you're planning to do a lift, then the TRD OR is preferable in my opinion. No need to pay for the Pros suspension if you're going to be swapping it out anyway.

      @pall5114 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EngineAdventures No not planning on lift, I would have liked the Pro but was like 10-15k more particular in current market with mark ups and felt that was too much for basically upgraded suspension. I priced out the Fox suspension with install by Toyota ~$3400. I think alternatively the EMU suspension are good I read. Of course Pro probably it will retain more resale in the future. For now TRD OF is good enough since I am total novice to off-roading but hoping to start some basic trails. Will upgrade tires to A/T, any suggestion on A/T most of the reviews and 4R owner seem to get KO2 or Fallen wildpeaks. I want something with good ride on road since 90% is on -road driving and occasional weekend trip off-road. Again great video and I am saving it as a Favorite go to video for future review.

      @@pall5114 honestly most of the big brand ATs will do fine. Cooper, Goodyear, BFG, Yokohama, Nitto, Fallen, etc. If you're in a place that gets snow and ice, go for one with the 3 peak mountain snowflake rating. I've heard BFG KO2's are good for 4 runner sized vehicles. On bigger vehicles they tend to wear out fast.

    Selling my 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon and replacing it with a 4Runner TRD pro. It won't be as capable offroad, but it will be more reliable. Definitely a hard decision for me.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If your Rubicon was stock then you will appreciate the off-pavement ride in the 4 Runner. Honestly, for me, the TRD Pros, Raptor, Mojave, etc are the better suited vehicles for most people. The ride will be so much better, and the slight loss in pure capability, won't negatively affect most people.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The Sequoia an LC200 are smoother at high speed offroad. The LC200 is silent inside, while the sequoia had some creaks and the 4 runner had quite a few. The Sequoia felt more powerful/quicker than the others with the 4 runner lacking a little. My order of TRD/Toyota vehicles for high speed offroad is:
      Tundra TRD Pro
      LC200
      Sequoia TRD Pro
      4 Runner TRD Pro
      Tacoma TRD Pro
      And a long ways down the Rav 4 TRD offroad
      As overall vehicles I'd move the tundra below the sequoia and keep the rest the same.

      @@EngineAdventures I loved this video man! Awesome shots of this beautiful machine. for most people who just go overlanding and wheeling on tighter trails, the 4Runner and tacoma are the most capable with the rear lockers and crawl control and multi terrain select. The tundra and sequoia don’t have lockers or those off road goodies and are too big for most trails that most people wheel on or at least in my case. Yeah high speed off road and desert running maybe but that’s a small percentage of people doing that type of off roading. Overall off roading/overlanding, the 4Runner and tacoma are the best hands down. Big enough for daily driving and hauling gear and people, yet small and nimble enough to hit any trail and shelf roads on the mountainside or squeezing through tight trails with a lot of brushes and trees. Most people would agree a full size truck and full size suv will be a huge headache on the trails and very heavy and weighed down not to mention the longer wheel bases. I didn’t even add in the land cruiser since that’s basically a class of its own but don’t get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE the tundra trd pro. By far my favorite full size truck.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andyham6094 I can't really disagree with you as far as Toyota vehicles go. Personally I like full size, as my first vehicle was an 88 suburban, and they are more capable than many people think, but definitely not on par with the 4 Runner or Tacoma. Also I live in the western states with lots of wide open desert where the big vehicles shine.

    Thanks again for the great reviews and your reply on the comparison between LC200, Sequoia and 4Runner.
    I am just starting the different comment. These techs (A-track, MTS and Crawl control) are great. But my 2014 Sequoia Platinum has TRACK only which works well evidently from your review on Sequoia TRD PRO. After watching your video reviews, I feel that I should get a diff locker at either end, beefy shocks and a skip plate for the fuel tank in my Sequoia which could do as well as LC200 except for the articulation and KDSS. What is your opinion?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Getting the right suspension setup can make a huge difference. The solid rear axle on the LC200 will definitely have more travel in general. With proper skid plates I wouldn't be worried about any issues with the Sequoia and while I always prefer a locker, I'm not sure what's out there for the sequoia and if the diff case can handle the added stress. It all depends on how hard you want to go, of you're planning really rough stuff maybe the sequoia isn't the best choice, but then again maybe it will do great. There just aren't many people running them offroad, so not a large sample size for capability and durability.

    The number of different types of modes is mind numbing!!! What would be the best mode to be in when driving in the city while raining? Is it possible to drive in 4WD at highway speeds without frying anything?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, and for the most part they don't matter a ton. The 4 Runner TRD Pro doesn't have a center differential, so whenever you put it in 4wd it's like having a locked center diff. That means driving on terrains with high traction will cause driveline binding. As far as in the rain on pavement, that's a choice you'll have to make. I'd probably leave it in 2wd unless things get really slippery, then shift into 4wd as needed. Don't worry about the drive modes for that situation, as they are only accessible in 4wd low. It's possible to drive in 4wd high at any speed, just engage it when the wheels aren't slipping and you should be fine.

  • @chasinglimits
    @chasinglimits 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for a great detailed review on how to use all its features. This will come in handy when I finally take delivery of my '21 Pro! Do you suggest lowering the tire psi when you go offroading?

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and for the support! It really depends on the situation, but in general you will have more traction, a smoother ride, and be less likely to pop a tire if you air down. For most of my videos I don't air down (unless I'm in the sand dunes) because I'm trying to test the traction systems of the vehicle, not the traction of the tires. If you're running a particularly rough trail I'd air down, but if it's only a short drive on dirt, or on a well maintained dirt/gravel road I wouldn't worry about it.

      @Aimal Khan I think you're correct, but no manual trans. I was close to buying a turbo, but my current car is payed off and I didn't want a car payment. Also when I went to look at it the dealer said it was in the shop for repairs and I wasn't able to see it.

    i still think atrac is king out of all the modes

      It's kind of a difficult thing to say. ATRAC works in conjunction with the modes, how aggressive it is is determined by the modes. There are times when you want less ATRAC input, like sand mode.

      @@EngineAdventures nah atracs all the things. Mo betta. You need slippage, turn all the shit off and skinny petal to the floor. Coming from a former owner with time in the muck

    Seems honda pilot cannot get close to 4runner in off road.

      Correct, the pilot isn't designed for the rough terrain that the 4 runner is.
