There is no "cold weather package" on any Honda product. All models with leather have heated seats standard. EX models and above have standard heated side mirrors. One feature that you did not mention is you can not lock your keys in the trunk if you drop the fob inside the trunk & try to close the lid it will pop back up.
There are many reasons for low mpg in winter: 1) Winter fuel blends have slightly lower energy density 2) colder air is denser and produces more drag but these two affect all cars.
Hybrids are only a good idea in moderate temp areas bc extreme cold increase resistance to flow of electricity and the battery loses capacitance temporarily. If your batteries cant provide as much power, then you have to make up for it by burning more gasoline.
Another problem m with hybrids is that they use small, efficient engines. normally cars syphon waste heat produced by combustion of gasoline to heat the passenger compartment, but with a small efficient engine there is less waste heat produced so you need to work the gasoline engine longer to keep the interior warm. turn off the heater in the winter and your car can stay in electric mode longer and you would probably get higher mpg's in your refrigerator.
Hybrid technology is a waste of resources. We should be working to further improve diesel technology until we can make fuel cells mainstream.

I always enjoy your reviews, though I have to say that the layout on the interior of the car is not that bad. I own a '13 V6 sedan; and, I have NO problem making adjustments to any of the controls in the car. For those who drive the car regularly, learning what buttons/screen to push and when will be second nature before long!
One of the best reviews on the new 2014 Honda Accord Hybrid. Very informative, detailed, and great specs on this new model. Thank you for the test drive.
Pro: wonderful style, love alloy wheels, moon roof and leather on touring, fantastic 45/50 mph, cameras, navigation, and features are all a plus on touring model, 5 stars on safety, 8 yr. warranty on motor, very smooth takeoff/ good 226 lbs. torque, low on noise, and powerful engine 196 hp and no transmission.
Con: less trunk space due to battery than regular Accord, no spare, new technology of hybrid engine and no history of success/failure of future, can be very expensive to replace electronic components up to $10K within 10 years , 4 tier of controls (many dials on console), door flap next to gearbox is weird, no split of back seats for trunk space, and limited interior colors. Low mpg in cold weather.
I don't care for how Melissa has to be "coached" into sharing more detailed responses through most of the videos, but I'm glad she shared the multi-driver positioning per key fob feature on her own for this review.
I think the cold weather killed his mpg... Motor trend got 56 mpg in one of their tests
Hey Dave, I think this Accord Hybrid has NO TRANSMISSION other than fixed ratio gears.
This is why it is so efficient. Very clever, Honda

A continuously variable transmission (CVT), also known as a single-speed transmission, stepless transmission, pulley transmission, or, in case of motorcycles, a twist-and-go, is an automatic transmission that can change seamlessly through a continuous range of effective gear ratios. This contrasts with other mechanical transmissions that offer a fixed number of gear ratios. The flexibility of a CVT allows the input shaft to maintain a constant angular velocity.

wow, low 30's a really disappointing. I wonder if the low MPG was due in part to cold temps? If so, that's good to know since I live in the upper midwest and that type of MPG would dissuade me from "paying up" for this hybrid.
What is the cost of each component of the hybrid system? How much does the 2.0 Atkinson cycle DOHC i-VTECH engine, two hybrid motors system, Lithium Ion Battery, and PCU cost? How long do these parts last? This needs to be addressed before buying the Hybrid Accord. Please help. Thank you.

Dave, I have a Question and need Advice? Also, everyone else out there?? I live in a snowbelt region; Boston, MA. and I would like to know IF ( you believe ) there is enough Ground clearance on the 14 Accord Hybrid (base model).
Just get a 2014 Mazda6. 5 grand cheaper and probably the same mileage since Dave said he was only getting low 30's. Also has better driving dynamics and more attractive inside and out
Dave, you opened the trunk with the button under the trunk lid. If I buy this car and it's in the parking lot, can a random person just open the trunk by pressing that button? Please tell me it's not that simple.
You have to have the key fob with you in order to open any of the doors.
