My honest opinion on the character of Spiderman
Toby = a great peter parker
Andrew = a great spiderman
The movies would have been a little better if those two personalities mixed together...That might be just me, though.
And that MJ wouldn't even be a stupid bitch...I mean seriously. I don't get why Spiderman would even still try to save her in the trilogy.
But anyways, I just have no problems with the movies besides that. They both have their goods and bads. I'm not one to be all extremely critical.

I think Andrew beats Tobey on both parts. Andrew made Peter seem more like the teen he really is, while Tobey just made him a sort of stereotypical nerd. Also, Tobey's Spider-Man was basically CGI

Tobey was nerdy and awkward enough for Peter but too nerdy and awkward for Spiderman. Garfield was cool enough for Spiderman but too cool for Peter. Holland looks like he is going to be both nerdy and awkward enough for Peter and cool enough when he puts on the red and blue.

I liked this movie, partly for it's ability to have a more likeable Peter Parker, and an awesome girlfriend who isn't all about the drama. Still, HMT's take has some funny points. "Seriously, nobody noticed that?" (football dents goal post).
More likeable Peter Parker? Yeah, because people finds that guy attractive, but the real caracter is supposed to be a nerd and I think Tobey Mcquire did an amazing job portraying the real essence of the caracter.
True, they both have their own, unique likeabilities.

Man, I remember when the 2002 Spider-Man was released. A lot of people bash on it today, but I am sure a lot of the same people loved it back then.
It wasn't just a hit movie, it held a world record for fastest grossing blockbuster movie.
This movie is actually a landmark that showcases just how much society has regressed. People eating up this movie is one thing, but saying it's superior to Sam Raimi's first one, is the pinnacle of insanity. It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.
So you're judging the entirety of the human race just because SOME people like a certain movie over another? You realize how silly that sounds right? Because the world TOTALLY revolves around movies and people's opinions on them right? -_-

Personally I really enjoyed The Amazing Spider Man... True, I grew up with the original trilogy, and still have a special spot for it in my nerdy superhero heart, but I thought the reboot was pretty darn awesome. :D

TASM isn't overhyped at all but that's good because I consider it an uninspired collage of videoclips with no real stortline, sense or purpose.
And Spiderman 2 is one of my favorite movie and received excellent reception from critics and audience. You might call it overhype I call it a well done movie with good character development, storyline, pacing, and acting with a great musical score and a message (sorely lacking in TASM). And apparently I'm not the only who think this.

That was actually more accurate and something many Spider-Man fans complained about in the first 3 movies. I think there is an alternate version where they gave him web powers but, in the comics & cartoons, he originally had none. Thus, he invented web-shooters and the fluid to fuel them. It was the Toby Maguire movies that got it wrong by giving him the power to sling web himself.

ClicedFTW Actually marvel has different "universes". The first 3 toby movies were technically "the ultimate spiderman" where he has webs in him. The remakes are now "The amazing spiderman" series which peter doesn't come with his own webs lol. That's why the story lines are different.

I referred to this as the unnecessary Spider-Man reboot when it first came out. I kept asking people "we saw this not too long ago and it was great. Why does this movie need to exist?" I remember at first people were trying to convince themselves it was better than the first three. It wasn't and at least lots of people admit that now, since spiderman is coming home.

I actually prefer it to the original, and as it's almost the same I don't really see how anyone could like the original but hate this one (unless they hated someone in the cast). How you could possibly think Spiderman 3 was better than this however is completely beyond me!

My overall opinion on Amazing Spiderman: It's a really bad movie, not just a really bad Spiderman movie but a really bad movie all together. Andrew Garfield's portrayal as Peter Parker makes him seem like a stubborn, arrogant, jerkass. At first he didn't seem like that with his somewhat awkwardness towards Gwen Stacy(Whom I like better than MJ). But his interactions with most of our cast including Uncle Ben who in other Spiderman adaptations has been like a father to him make Peter come off as an asshole. The event leading to Ben's murder was that Peter out of having a hissy fit out of his uncle lecturing him about responsibility and letting the man who became Ben's murderer get away with stealing something from the store out of spite at the cashier for something he clearly didn't have enough money for. When he became Spiderman he ended up becoming a vengeance seeker and only became a hero just because Gwen Stacy pretty much said that she'd like Spiderman better if he did heroic things out of the goodness in his heart. Then there's the Lizard who completely ditched the trenchcoat and lizard-like face just to receive a generic CGI monster look and a lack of a personality beyond being a cliche villain with a "Woe is me" backstory. Also I feel like if Dennis Leary's character didn't have to die in this movie but apparently god forbid we have a Spiderman movie without a funeral scene near the end. I do like the romance between Peter and Gwen despite my complaints. Considering that Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone were in a relationship at the time, this really gives an advantage.

What many people don't know is that in the comics uncle Ben never told Peter that "With great power, there must also come great responsibility". It was said in the last panel of Amazing Fantasy #15 which was the first appearance of Spider-man and was his origin comic. So he never said it but Peter learned it through the story.

Maybe i'm biased but I feel 1 spider man was funny and cocky not just cocky and the graphics on the new just bothered me. But 2 had the lame him losing powers because blahblah and 3 was just awful. They ruined venom for me.
That doesn't make the movie better.
TASM was very close to the comics, that's why ithad J. Jonah Jamenson, Mary Jane, Harry Osborn, Gwen not finding out Peter was Spider-man, Peter becoming a superhero because "with Great power comes great responsibility", and not being a douchebag vigilante trying to catch his uncle's killer, and George Stacy telling Spider-Man to keep his relationship with Gwen. and the Sequel is also really based on the comics by having Norman become the Green Goblin, and throw Gwen off a bridge.

Honestly i'll love this movie no matter what anyone says but people complaining about Peter being awkward and stuttering annoys me so much. A, thats what makes him endearing and relatable and B, a lot of people are like that in real life! I feel so insecure when people make fun of me for mine and it feels even worse when someone else is ridiculed for it. Can yall get a hint and realise that its a perfectly normal thing instead of acting like its an unacceptable flaw???

The thing I hate is that a lot of people think this film is better than the original Spider-Man because it's "closer" to the comics, in which by that it's that Peter built his web shooters, liked Gwen first and The Lizard didn't die. Wasn't Peter a dork and bullied in the comics? In here he's "bullied" by assholes when he really isn't a dork and isn't actually believable to be picked on by other kids like Toby's Peter was. I think people are forcing themselves to think this film is better because they still feel the pains of Spider-Man 3, which yah this is better than that film, but this isn't better than the original SM movie.
Honestly, I think the first and third Raimi Spiderman films were both pretty bad. Number 2 was only better because it had more emotional depth, but it also is very dated immediately and very created a rather silly world with awful dialogue and a lot of hammy acting.
What I like about Amazing Spiderman is that they attempted more of a 'real' take on Peter. Now, there are problems and stupid moments in the film like The Lizard's convenient CGI model thing showing his 'evil plan', but it wasn't as bad as the dumb stuff of the other ones.
Plus, I was bullied in school despite no real external reason for it, I was just picked at random to be the dude people picked on 'cause I was slightly off, so saying that it "isn't realistic" for bullies to just pick on someone like Peter is just plain wrong. Plus, Flash is a lot more realistic here when he genuinely reaches out at one point for a brief moment, he shows sympathy for Peter's loss--again, that's actually something that happened to me too.
So yeah, I like this film better than Spiderman 1&3, roughly en-parr with 2, for different reasons.
I hate Tobi and the chick who played MJ. And I think this film is better from a 'I'm a film student so I know everything' point of view.

AhhTheHorror Funnily enough, I also ended up being friends with someone I used to hate like that. A lot of the characterisation in this film was more believable than the other ones, I guess.
Sadly, no superpowered alien symbiote, but you can't have it all :p
Well, I guess this is just my opinion, but this movie had a much better and connected plot, and better casting (I liked Spider-Man 2, but Tobey Maguire just doesn't look or act like a teenager, and Emma Stone is waaaaaay better than Dunst). Also, the greatest thing about Peter Parker in general is his relatability, not his nerdiness, which is the only thing Maguire actually did that was accurate.
Here's my thoughts.
The first Spider Man was a good effort albeit dated in terms of writing and effects.
Spider Man 2 was infinitely superior and is one of my favorite films of all time.
Spider Man 3 is easily the worst. I do think that the film is enjoyable, just that it wasn't as good as the first two.
The Amazing Spider Man was a good reboot. I could care less that it was unnecessary.
I am soooooooo seeing Amazing Spider Man 2 this Thursday!.

Are you kidding? All three films in the trilogy were awesome. Spider-Man 3 was awesome as well, unlike what all these noobs say. Spider-Man 1 was also one of the best. It takes a true fan to see that.

I've always thought Spiderman was awesome, but this guy playing Spiderman was fucking torture. He looks and acts like he belongs in Highschool Musical, wtf were they thinking casting him? Tobey looked like the kind of guy Spiderman was before gaining his powers, this guy looked like something from Twilight.
Instead of Spiderman beating up the school bully in self defence, he humilitiates him with his SICK ASS BASKETBALL SKILLZ!!! and Spiderman does skateboard tricks! Who wants to see that? And he cannot even act! His crying scene at Uncle Ben's death was so poorly delivered it felt like watching a school play. Tobey could emote and make the facial expressions to get the feeling of sadness across, this guy just screamed "uncle Ben", and overacted sad so pathecially.
The girl is in love with him from the very beginning of the movie for no reason, there is no suspense at all, no build up! They built it up with Mary Jane, how she slowly begun to like him, but Gwen just wanted him so bad from the start, the flattest movie-romance ever.
The Lizardman shows that his claws would tear up spiderman simply by touching him, yet he doesn't use them against Spiderman again in any of their fights after that= bad writing.
And it milks the death of a father figure emotional trope by having it 3 TIMES! Come on, that's just repetition.
Yeah, this is "hating", I hate this movie because it was bad, for these reasons and many more.

ok, now to counter all your "arguments":
first of all, in every incarnation of the comics after gaining his powers peter has a boost in his confidence, and the scene with flash serves to show him rising to face his bullies to show that he is more confident in himself, and that hes alson an human being, that something when we get something that it denied to us for so long, we get cocky, just like peter with strenght, and it also ties in with the power/responsability message of the charecter.
Second, tobey could emote? really? really? tobey mcguire is one of the worst actors i have ever seen, troughout the 3 films all he did was stare blankly with the most unnatural tear while waiting for his problems to go away, at lest this peter was proactive, he had problems but he learned to do the best he could, remembe "UNNNNNNNNNNNCLE BEEEEEEEEEN"
mj is the worst adaptations of a comic book charecter i have ever seen, in the comics she was strong, independable, faithful, in the movie not only is she kidnaped every 10 seconds of the movie, but she also bangs every young male charecter in 3 movies, lets make the count shall we, flash, harry, jameson son and harry again, now THAT is great progression, seriously its like she tested every guy in new york before choosing peter
