    Can you compare the higher-end 13 inch MacBook pro and the lower end 13 inch MacBook pro?

    • @AritroVlogs
      @AritroVlogs 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Do you need a lot of power? Go with the 15inch.
      Do you want portability? Go with the 13in.
      Other things to note, 15in and expensive 13in have 4 ports

      Unfortunately, It’s not in my current lineup of videos i am working on, and not sure I can fit it into the budget. So chances are slim, but I won’t rule it out completely if things change.

      It’d be worth it. So far every reviewer has been treating the two-thunderbolt MBP as a much better value (which it definitely seems to be) than the four-port one with extremely similar performance.
      But my hunch is that the higher-end model probably provides better all around “quality of life” with much better speakers, two fans, and more ventilation. I imagine that it runs way cooler, and maybe quieter since you don’t need to spin one fan really hard to cool the whole machine.
      At the low end, if you’re comparing $1299 vs $1799, it’s not worth it, but once you start adding BTO options like more storage and ram it becomes like a $200 difference. $1999 vs $2199 is much more palatable for slightly more power, double the ports, etc with the added internal upgrades when you’ve already upgraded the ram and storage.

    Great comparison and review as always, Greg. You helped me to choose the Air. I do value battery life, operating temperatures and noise over performances, which could matter for who only owns one machine as main computer. I personally prefer to run heavier tasks on the bigger screen of my iMac 5k. It could have been interesting to see the thermal scan of both machines (maybe you can get a small thermocamera for next reviews :D). I come from an older MacBook Pro and feeling the heat from the keyboard is very unpleasant.
    Controlling Photoshop brush size via Touchbar could be handy but beside that I wouldn't have much use of it. Keep up the good work!

    Interesting video. So from my prospective: Pro won on benchmarks - basically numbers which count in case of video editing or gaming. Things you do on a desktop (in my case anyway) or with a laptop convenient docking capabilities. On the other hand Air is much more like a laptop for everyday use: better battery (almost 2x times more), no cooling issues (won't burn my legs), stable performance (on it's level). My winner is definitely the Air.

    • @GregsGadgets
      @GregsGadgets  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah. While I think the Pro deserves the win, as it can act as both a lightweight laptop and a “pro” machine, the MacBook air is still the better computer for the people that don’t need that power.

    In my opinion, the cooling system for both models were designed for different reasons and purposes. Air is meant to be carry around or sit on top of user’s lap. That’s why the sound and heat coming out to the body of the mac is pretty much lower. While, Pro is used for more Pro’s stuff like editing or running more hardcore softwares in order to get better performance than daily life use. So, it comes to the answer that cooling system is working harder to keep the hardware inside cool. Plus, it tends to get warmer while rendering videos or photos, but that’s when user leave the hardware do the work. It will sound weird to put Pro on top of their laps while rendering videos, or maybe I’m wrong.

  • @JohnRaraAvis
    @JohnRaraAvis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    About heat part. MacBook Air doesn't have connection between fan and processor heat case so it simply cannot give up the heat while MacBook Pro does have normal cooling system and giving a heat to a metal case that is why pro hotter. MacBook Air has a lot of problems with heat which possible might kill processor in time.

    TL;DR: The MacBook Air makes no sense. Same footprint as the MBP, negligible weight difference. Half the power. They should've kept the 12" MacBook around, which had a clear differentiation-mobility first, all else last and fanless design. It also should have been named Air from the get-go and have a 13,3" companion with the same fanless design, not a downgraded Pro.

    • @Noodles.FreeUkraine
      @Noodles.FreeUkraine 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NDakota79 I had a feeling this was gonna come up. Honestly, I don't think it matters _that_ much when it comes to premium brands. If you really can't afford Apple, you just grab a Windows laptop for half the price with twice the specs (yes, exaggerating a bit here). Kinda like when all you can afford is an old Crown Vic you're not gonna look at the new Mercedes offerings anyways. But if you consider them in the first place, a few $$ more for an extra here or there don't make a real difference either. Heck, look at how much the prices just upgrading to reasonable specs (16 GiB RAM, 256 GiB SSD) will set you back. Seriously, I wouldn't even consider a MacBook if ±$200 break the bank. Not talking down to those who can't afford it, just trying to make sense of it and add my 2¢. Your mileage may vary of course.

    Solid comparison. For me the Pro is much better day to day and $200 is not a huge amount to spend for the performance and time savings of the Pro.

    Is macbook air okay for day to day admin task? I work from home and I have the old mid 2012 13inch macbook pro which is getting the job done but noticeably slow on some apps. Takes a little while to open ms office, system preference, boot up, and adobe. I find the air cheaper and fits my budget but I also like the pro due to touchbar but not necessary.

    Greg, great comparison review. do you think the touch bar eats up battery life?I don't see anyone reviewing this, can you? If the touch bar is shaving off an hour or two hours, can we all petition Apple to remove it? I'm especially curious about that, because I owned a Lenovo X1 carbon nearly a decade ago where it had a touch bar similar to Apple's but didn't use it. So aside from battery life, I am also curious about if people really use it. Can you devote an entire video on that touch bar? Thanks

      Thank you so much 🙏
      Depends on what you want to use the machine for. If you plan to do anything that is more graphics intensive, you should look at the 15” the dedicated GPUs help out in that department.
      Same if you need some super fast multithreaded cpu performance, those 8 core processors are insanely fast.
      But if you don’t need all that horsepower or you want more portability, go with the 13” i hope that helps 🙏

      William Gaddie 15in has GPU.
      But also most MBP 2018/19 models have issues with the T2 affecting audio - so if audio work is important to you, hold out.

    • @athletejmv
      @athletejmv 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're asking, you don't need the 15". I only want it for the larger screen, don't need it for much of anything else other than the more up to date internals. Just get the 13". I had the 15, but use an external monitor and glad to save the cash. Or, you can do the same... get an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Have a huge display when at home and then something more portable on the go.
