Yup. The only reason they still sell them is because of dumb people who actually buy them. I got in an argument on reddit about how the air is a waste of money because for an extra $200 you get a much better computer. It was over the base air vs base pro.
J Kwon I think he meant shitty windows laptops that cost 500 to 700 dollars. He literally said that MacBooks are just for people who love apple products
Kyle Burdick You’re missing the point. It’s an Ultra Light Machine for Apple users. “Air”. Not PRO. What’s a Notebook designer for learning, college etc going to do with a Quad Core Processor? Watching movies? Checking emails and looking at pictures? Lmfao Want Quad Core? Buy the Pro. The argument is going to get you absolutely Nowhere. You know it
I’m a student and I bought a 2018 MacBook Air base model for very light gaming and school work. (Example: writing stuff on pages/word, web browsing and TH-cam) and I’m pretty sure it was a decent choice
J2gross I love how people often miss the point that most people buy a MacBook for Mac OS. You can always argue with a Mac user and the actual intelligent ones will say they have it for either Mac OS or final cut.
As a Mac owner, I can tell you that you’d better do all you can to stay as current as possible. The Intel Macs are going to go down to bargain levels in a little time. At that point, they’re good for Linux machines. Nothing wrong with that. You’d better pop for an M1 or the coming M2 instead. They’re great, but you’d better stay current if you don’t want your workflow interrupted and keep some funds aside. If you can do that, you’ll be fine.
Strangely enough laptops with the same specs on the windows side cost just as much but no one complains. Windows laptops are just as expensive but don’t last as long as a MacBook.
@@bokismokitoki why are Apple users so blind , it's sad . At this point I feel empathy for the people who don't realise that they over pay. No they are never are similarly priced with same specs . Just hold on to your current computers for longer. A new laptop every 8-10 years and you can easily purchase a near top of the line laptop. Or if you're computer savvy at all, you can take apart the older machine, remove the old HDD and replace it with a new SSD and upgrade the RAM and your machine will behave like brand spanking new. and will save you a shit ton of money in the long run and you'll get an additional 5 years out of the machine.
Apple love to use their customized chips, even Intel develop a special SKU for Apple. I think using AMD will be hard since they never use AMD processor so it will use more resources to optimize it. And, it seems like Apple want to use their own ARM chip to be used in their Macbook lineup, T2 chip is a great example. For me, T2 chip is like a transition before going full on ARM. From this point onward, it is decided by how great AMD and Intel lobby Apple to use their product. If somehow Apple start using AMD processor for next models, believe me, Intel will die. I mean, their 4 core 8 threads is that good. If somehow Apple special order AMD APU with 4 cores 8 threads with Vega 12 (at minimum) it is for sure, a dead end. But there is Navi architecture now... this is getting complex. But, for sure, we can say that Intel is dying if they can optimized their price/performance. For others who don't know the situation now, Intel is being defeated in every position: low-end by Athlon and Ryzen 3, mid-end by Ryzen 5, high-end by Ryzen 7 and Threadripper, enterprise by Epyc. For once in decades, AMD and Intel trade blow in performance evenly, but AMD has significantly lower price, hence Intel is not a choice anymore. Intel ecosystem? For the last 3 years, I believe lots of softwares have already been optimized for AMD. No more significant impact in Adobe (except for iGPU for intel), Compress and Decompressing, Rendering, Multi-tasking. In the deep of my heart, I can't wait for Intel next move (s). Will they lower the price to compete? Will they produce more performance to claim the summit again? But, I think it will be 2020 when Intel shows the greatest innovation of the(ir) decade while welcoming DDR5 and PCIe 4.0

The T2 chip meant losing the ability to get data off the SSD if the other parts of the hardware failed and couldn't power on the laptop. You'd have to rely on iCloud to get hold of your data.
@Zak Jansen In previous MacBooks with a soldered SSD there was a connector on the board that would allow you to access the SSD without the MacBook powered on. In later models that connector isn't fitted. Unlike other laptops you can't just remove the SSD and connect it to another machine to retrieve your data.
@@MrNeocortex The whole thing is a perfect example of devolution in action - up to 2015, the SSD in the MacBook pro was a removable module - so if your machine broke you could open it up and physically swap the SSD into the replacement machine. Then they started soldering the flash to the mainboard - so there was no longer any way end users could recover the data or swap the drive - but at least Apple could. Finally, they put the T2 into the machine, so now it's impossible for anyone to recover the data if the machine breaks. This is, apparently, "progress".
Swagat Malla not trying to defend apple ‘cause that stand is ridiculous, but think it this way, if you already have a vesa stand you can buy the apple monitor for $5k instead of $6k, saving $1k.
It’s especially worth it right now with the price reduction and student discounts. The baseline MacBook Air comes to around $800, with a pair of free $350 Beats (Could probs resell for $300). With the Pro it’s $1000 after discounts and still get $350 Beats. Even the low-end MacBook Pro is just slightly worse than the high-end one. Macs are now legitimately affordable to buy relative to other ultrabooks.
As a User of a 2014 MacBook Air, The dilemma is even stronger. 128GB storage is not going to be enough which changes the price point of all of these laptops. IS it really asking for too much from Apple to allow us to make RAM and SSD upgrades ? I also have a Dell XPS 13 (2015) model and I think I will upgrade that with a 2 in 1 with a 10th Gen Processor
The current macbooks are still garbage town imo. Lack of ports, horrible keyboard issues, high pricetag and lack of decent specs for that price. Literally unless you're a diehard applefan who is gonna use this as a facebook machine, you can get anything else and have better value.

@@Joe-vi4sr Older macbooks had many hardware features that are unfortunately not present in today's Macbooks. By default, the macbooks of the past allowed for multiple USB, HDMI, SIM card, and Thunderbold ports to be utilized at the same time. This grants a lot of versatility as to how you can connect the macbook to other hardware and devices - in the newer macbooks, only 1-2 USB-C ports means you need to be dongles and extensions that cost money. Charging with older macbooks relied on the Mag-Safe system so cables could be pulled out if on accident without causing damage to the charging port or computer. Very convenient and safe - the newer macbooks have you charging via the same port you'll most likely need for connecting hard drives or usb drives, so you need to spend money on dongles too, not to mention tugging at the power cable would most likely jerk the computer itself since the USB-C charging cable acts like those barrel plugs on windows computers. The keyboards for older macbooks were less accident-prone than the newer butterfly keyboards of today's macbooks as well - maintenance of them was relatively easier than that of the newer keyboards they use today.

If it breaks down, I might consider getting an iPad Pro as my Windows desktop at home can handle the heavy lifting.
Are the 2019 Austin Evans’ Worth It?
I was recently thinking of upgrading my 2014 MacBook Pro to the late 2018 MacBook Air but I really see no real reason. My MacBook is still very powerful and plenty fast for my needs. I guess I’ll be waiting a few more years. This thing has been a beast for the few years I’ve had it now.
It’s 2019, there is no reason for Apple to still be making +$1000 laptops with only dual core processors, other than pure greed.
Yup. The only reason they still sell them is because of dumb people who actually buy them. I got in an argument on reddit about how the air is a waste of money because for an extra $200 you get a much better computer. It was over the base air vs base pro.
J Kwon the only way I’d get an air if it had a quad. I’d much rather Touch Bar vs dual core
Lmfao
Want Quad Core? Buy the Pro. The argument is going to get you absolutely Nowhere. You know it
@@Racko. Better question, what's a PRO laptop (intended for video editing, photo editing, and such) doing with just a quad core instead of 6?
I’m a student and I bought a 2018 MacBook Air base model for very light gaming and school work. (Example: writing stuff on pages/word, web browsing and TH-cam) and I’m pretty sure it was a decent choice
Wow you game on that thing ? Like what ?

@@JamesGarage06 well CSGO ran fine on my 7 year old laptop so it should run just fine

J2gross I love how people often miss the point that most people buy a MacBook for Mac OS. You can always argue with a Mac user and the actual intelligent ones will say they have it for either Mac OS or final cut.
Thats true
Boi he stupid
Preach all these people here actually spitting facts
@Kamal Kristipati dude you do you I'm not going to argue with someone who wants to pay more for less and tha only saving grace is a track pad
Wow, $1099. That like $100 less overpriced than before.
Ikr... U could just pay $999... That's $100 less and get a monitor stand
Strangely enough laptops with the same specs on the windows side cost just as much but no one complains. Windows laptops are just as expensive but don’t last as long as a MacBook.

@@veedub95 I use macs. Sill dosn't mean I've to agree with stupid decision from Apple
They need to use AMD so the price can't *Ryzen*
As amazing as Ryzen is on the desktop, ryzen mobile is honestly underwhelming and really only suitable for low budget laptops
@@tang9538 give it time maybe 7nm might make a difference on a mobile chip
Do you really think Apple would charge less if they put a Ryzen in it? Because yeah ... ... no ... This is Apple we're talking about.
@@tang9538 With 7nm, it is a solid choice especially in productivity.
For others who don't know the situation now, Intel is being defeated in every position:
low-end by Athlon and Ryzen 3, mid-end by Ryzen 5, high-end by Ryzen 7 and Threadripper, enterprise by Epyc.

Actually losing the T2 chip turned out to be an advantage. 😂
The T2 chip meant losing the ability to get data off the SSD if the other parts of the hardware failed and couldn't power on the laptop. You'd have to rely on iCloud to get hold of your data.
MrNeocortex
It also meant kernel panics because of that stupid and unreliable Bridge OS. 😀
MrNeocortex it means no crash
@@MrNeocortex The whole thing is a perfect example of devolution in action - up to 2015, the SSD in the MacBook pro was a removable module - so if your machine broke you could open it up and physically swap the SSD into the replacement machine. Then they started soldering the flash to the mainboard - so there was no longer any way end users could recover the data or swap the drive - but at least Apple could. Finally, they put the T2 into the machine, so now it's impossible for anyone to recover the data if the machine breaks. This is, apparently, "progress".

That is not cheap, nor affordable. You want to know what an affordable macbook pro is? Go on to Ebay and find a 2012 to 2015 model.
If you also just want Mac os. Just buy a used ThinkPad and hackintosh it.

I’m so confused how can an older version of a laptop be better than a newer version
@@Joe-vi4sr MacBooks hold up much better over time and this Late 2013 feels brand new. the display is magnificent and the battery lasts very long and it has ALL the ports i need and the magsafe charger.
A CPU is not “clocked” at 1.4GHz if it can go to 3.9GHz. The base clock of a cpu is no indication to the performance of that CPU, just clever marketing to make people think that one is better than the other

The biggest difference and deciding factor for me you forgot to mention is that the MacBook Air still has function keys instead of a Touch Bar. Having real keys plus touchID is vastly superior in my opinion. I just cannot get used to the touch bar
