    In regards to the Ezra/Sabine thing...that implication is absolutely in Rebels as well. The two have a strong dynamic, and Sabine is clearly the closest relationship that Ezra has of the crew, even stronger than his bond with Kanan, who is his mentor. It very much reflects the dynamic that Kanan and Hera have, which is directly romantic.

    • @guzm9120
      @guzm9120 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Added to the contrast that watching Rebels gives you, because one knows that Sabine cares deeply for everyone she considers her family, whether it's the Ghost crew or her family on Mandalore. Quoting Sabine herself in episode 1 when she says to Ahsoka, 'Do you really think Ezra is still out there?' implying that she believed him to be dead and was mourning him... knowing that her family on Mandalore is dead, including her BLOOD BROTHER, and she has on the toolbox in the corner the ONE memory of them, compared to the memory of Ezra, which surrounds her everywhere... let's say that what Filoni shows doesn't quite align with his narrative.

    • @FlashFyreProductions
      @FlashFyreProductions 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@guzm9120 I'm not sure if "doesn't align" is accurate...I think more accurately, he demonstrates that people's actions speak louder than their words. People don't always say what they mean, out of fear, embarrassment, or perhaps not even knowing their true feelings. Filoni displays depth to his characters in how their actions show their true feelings even when they cannot recognize those feelings themselves.

    • @willshea2460
      @willshea2460 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah I also agree I find it weird that they cut their relationship down to brother and sister type stuff. I feel like they did that because they thought it'd be weird for new viewers?
      But even they should have kept the relationship leaning more towards romantic interest because it makes a much more compelling to an audience that knows neither of these characters or the events of Rebels.

  • @MichaelGrundler
    @MichaelGrundler 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

    47:00 Quick note from a movie first watcher (yes, I'm the one who also commented on the Instagram post): if I'm not mistaken, at this point in the movie we as the audience don't know yet that Huyang can be a valuable asset in a fight or as a pilot. So while it might have been an oversight from Ahsoka we wouldn't become aware of it until later in the story or during a rewatch. I for one didn't notice anything until you mentioned it.
    Oh and another possible in-universe explanation: communicating with Huyang would've taken more time than telling Hera to get the Phantom. And I guess that Ahsoka assumed she could reach the transport herself first if she acted quickly, which she nearly did, had she not been caught in a fight. So the Phantom (or alternatively her ship) was more like a backup.
    Also who knows what Huyang was up to in the meantime. Maybe he was off the ship on a mission doing his own research about the operations in this facility.

    Dude this re-edit is SO GOOD! For me it made the show into something that really feels like a more concise and therefore higher quality star wars story. Thank you so much for this, some things I was saying to myself while watching the Disney+ version you actually did here!
    And I watched both the og Ahsoka and Obi Wan shows on Disney+ first, hopefully doing that can ensure more of this great work from you in the future without Disney going order 66 on your ass. I really can't express how grateful I am that you have done this for the fans/community, really makes Star Wars feel alive again. Especially after the disaster that was Acolyte.
    I really hope that people involved with Star Wars will one day see that this is what it can be like. After all, the core of this was in the original. It was just messy and drawn out in order to fit the TV series format which ultimately caused problems for the story as a whole.

I really wish this level of thought, intentionality and reason was put into the projects at Lucasfilm. These Disney projects have money but lack passion. The best part for me was the new music and how you emphasized the old ones. I don’t know why shows today don’t have really good music anymore, but what you did here is clearly noticeable and made the whole movie much better.
    I got the feelingof Star Wars again, similar to the feeling I get when playing SWTOR. The fun, adventure, and mystery are all in the music, and they really take the scenes to another level. While the original had some good tracks, they were never loud enough somehow.

    This breakdown is a dream for fan edit enthusiasts such as myself. I've listened to a few fan edit audio commentaries but they always felt lacking in detail and never really got into how things were done (can't blame them too much since they have to keep up with the movie), whereas this gets into not just the how but also the why. I'll be checking out the edit and then get back to this video, but for now I'll say: I haven't seen the show since it aired, and on a visual/sound level, there's no doubt in my mind that I would've bought these additions/improvements and thought this whole thing was using the original untouched footage. The improved light and color seems especially like a no-brainer; that's what the show should've looked like. You really brought it out of the muddiness. It's going to be interesting to see what you've done with the narrative structure underneath it all.
    I have to add that I really appreciate how much this video focuses on Sabine and Ahsoka, because by far my favorite part of the show was the Baylan Skoll and Shin Hati storyline. It brings me so much joy to know that all the other parts of the show that didn't resonate quite as much with me can now be seen in a more interesting light, and with a fresh coat of paint.

    Hey Kai! Great job on this! The Ahsoka show desperately needed a few tweaks in the editing department. Thank you for cutting out so many awkward dialog bits and pauses. While I was a fan of this show and your version, I would, however, have to say books one and two of Boba Fett are my favorite of yours (amazing re-edit on that one!). You mentioned there is a three hour cut of Ahsoka and I feel if you would have split this into two parts like the Fett show, it would have worked as well. There were a few scenes I miss in your version (such as the E-Wings chasing Sabine on the speeder...it's a little jarring when they say she was just here at the celebration and it cuts to her back at home in a flash). The show has a natural two part feel to it with half being in our galaxy and the other half far, far away. Perhaps, if I saw your version first, I would not be missing the things that were cut, lol. I really enjoy your work and thank you for going through the creating process with this video. I am discovering more of your work on your channel and am truly impressed. Cheers!

    Wow thank you so much for your HARD HARD WORK, I just watch your cut of the Ahsoka movie and I really REALLY enjoyed it. (Same for the Kenobi one!!) My only tiny cut that didn't work for me, you actually address it in your comments, is when Sebine is ready to go, talk to the cat and "cuts" to her in a meditation position - But hey, where's my cut someone could say hahaha. You really did a remarkable job, from a fan to fans - so thank you again very very much!!!

  • @TheRealRobertBlarg
    @TheRealRobertBlarg 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I love a LOT of the changes here. It truly takes the "faster, more intense" meme of Lucas' directing, but that's genuinely what Star Wars IS. Even when it slows, when we pause, when we take a deep meditative breath in ANH, ESB, ROTS, wherever. A LOT of these shows fail to do that. And de-emphasizing the failed relationship & doing things like having their first meeting start with smiles does wonders to making the dynamic feel more like Rebels. So damn, kudos to a lot of those tweaks across the board. You've already tremendously refined things & improved it.
    And that's my ultimate issue with the show and even this fan edit: Sabine's Force sensitivity -- man do I wish it was removed. Had it been hinted at in that show, then I could accept it here, but it wasn't. We saw her & Ezra training, her wielding the blade, but it very clearly never alluded to any Force potential in spite of all that. I think Kanan says something like she "blocks the Force" but we know the Force is in all things. Chirrut to me is a great example of someone who isn't necessarily Force sensitive, but he doesn't block the Force out like Sabine was, he doesn't fight against it, he accepts it. "I am one with the Force, the Force is with me" and that's why he can accomplish his goals ultimately by having that give-and-take... but he's not really wielding it. That's what I took from Sabine in Rebels too.
    Even if you read more into that line, as well as Chirrut, it's still so minor of a thing that Rebels never actually explored that she still ultimately remained just a cool Mandalorian, by default. Unlike Leia who even in the OT is first alluded to in ESB's "there is another" line, then we see her actually connect with Luke mentally, and is then very explicitly told as much in ROTJ. Had ESB not teased another, had Leia not been shown to figure out where Luke was, and then Luke didn't say "you have that power too" and just went "you block/ignore the Force" then that is waaaay more abstract & if she suddenly became a Jedi years later, I'd be like "wait huh??" But that's not what happened. To me, it's yet another case of these shows "begging the question" -- it begs the question of why Kanan didn't decide to train Sabine, why Ahsoka never indicated her sensitivity in Rebels, and things of that nature. Why aren't we training Hera? Why not Han, Chewie, Din Djarin, Bo-Katan, all these other people?
    I'm also not sure what her being Force sensitive truly serves for the story. The story is about two entwined objectives: a family desperately searching for the lost member of the group who has been missing for so long, and a subsect of the New Republic desperately searching for the most dangerous threat to the NR's stability. Sabine's inclusion makes sense because she wants so badly to be reunited with Ezra. What exactly necessitated her being Force sensitive for that plotline rather than just getting to be an awesome graffiti-Mandalorian, exactly? Truly, what does it serve? Ultimately... all she ends up doing with it is *checks notes* augmenting a super awkward Force jump from Ezra. Wonderful /s.

    • @LadyElfTari
      @LadyElfTari 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You broke down exactly why Force!Sensitive Sabine annoys me lol.
      People have been backreading "hints" about it into Rebels in light of Ahsoka, but it simply WAS NOT THERE at the outset, no one who was watching Rebels seriously thought it was a thing, no one in production hinted at it being a thing. If it was supposed to be a thing in Rebels it was buried so deeply in Filoni's head that it never made it out to the other parts of the creative team.
      And if *anyone* can channel the Force with the right mindset, the right training, enough hard work and determination (as Ahsoka seems to hint), that actually breaks the lore in several frustrating ways. Like, Palpatine obviously wouldn't want a bunch of people running around that can use the Force that are not him, but in the stories and material we have, he only specifically targets Force Sensitives AKA people over a certain genetic or biological threshold for potential to connect to the Force. But you're telling me that people wouldn't be able to figure it out, even without formal training from a Jedi or Sith? There wouldn't be dozens of low level Sensitives running around the galaxy performing minor untrained or self-trained feats, or someone dedicating their lives to the study wouldn't eventually have a breakthrough from "can't connect" to "can connect"? You're telling me the underbelly of the GFFA wouldn't LEAP at the chance to use Dark Side powers, if they knew it was possible to access with enough hard work?
      There is so much scaffolding that has to be built from the ground up to support the idea that a person can go from Non-Sensitive to Sensitive just by trying and training hard enough with the right mindset. Like, I know people hate the midichlorians for "demystifying" the Force but what even makes being a Force user special, if anyone can do it because "the Force is in all things"?
      And Ezra should have totally been able to make that jump on his own, we saw him do it in the series, he didn't NEED Sabine and it was so contrived that she didn't have her jetpack on her.

    from the beginning with making a figure available of every single character background and foreground Star Wars invited us to take creative ownership of these stories and play in and interpret them ourselves as kids and it makes sense we'd explore this as adults too. Ahsoka was a decent show that suffered from pacing issues, so this was not just worth exploring because of the quality of the show, but I think the culture of Star Wars invites it.

    Yeah, the “abrupt” moment you talk about I noticed. It wasn’t the cut, it was more the emotional component. We get the impression there is tension between Ahsoka and reluctance from Sabine, and the shift to her suddenly starting this journey and venturing out felt…unearned.

    Amazing job. I think you did the best possible job to cut this show to 2.5 hours. The pacing is too fast in some parts, characters are not fully introduced and there isn’t time to breathe. But the plot if the made it impossible, unless you cut out alot of action scenes. This probably would have to be 3.5 hours long for perfect pacing but I understand that is too long

    Your work is amazing. I loved Ahsoka, Mandalorian and ESPECIALLY Andor, and thought Kenobi was somewhat of a let down. But, they were not BAD and edits like yours show how great they can be.
    Side note, the "grey" of the newer star wars for some reason appeals to me. It HEAVILY depends on context, but I watched every Andor episode early in the morning before work when it was cold outside and it was SO cozy. And the color grading helped with that for some reason.

I got the gist of the story and actually enjoyed it! I think it came out really well and everything in it made sense. The scene with Anakin and Ahsoka was already one of my favourite interactions in the series and you only improved on it, since some of the dialogue did not make sense or was confusing. I loved the pacing in your edit and all the changes you made were, as far as my opinion goes, more than justified.

    One thing with the star map taking so long to break - a few scenes before, Sabine had the map at blaster point. Which the audience assumes would destroy it in one shot so it really begs the question why did it take so long with a LIGHTSABERRR.

    So much well done to change it into a more fun viewing. Thank you so much. Especially the banter and pacing. It works so well in Rebels but the age change makes it unbelievable in the Plus show.
    A couple fight scenes I liked better in the show as it followed a more samurai-movie style pacing but I get it for the feature length and your preference. Didn't take anything away. Especially in combination with other aspects.
    Biggest issue I had was colorization. Ahsoka relatedchanges were perfect. Loved the colorization in Lothal. But not everything needed brightening and color adjustment with specific examples of Seatos and Peridea. Bleakness and tone also gets pulled subconsciously through those choices. I felt like I lost that feeling that they are diving into the unknown and the visuals should include us in that feeling as we enter these locations.
