I remember the first time I heard a Detroit run i was a little kid and that sound has stuck with me. Once you hear one of these engines run, it will stay with you for the rest of your life! Kind of like diesel smoke once you smell that the smell was stick with you the rest of your life! For me? It brings back wonderful memories of my grandparents farm

I love to see someone get giddy like a little kid when you wind that up!
I had the pleasure of working at Harper Detroit diesel for three years back in 2000. The shop was filled with lifers some had been there since it was a parking lot! Then 35-8 years. The number and variety of two strokes that were rebuilt and serviced was amazing. Have you seen any on an ego e Dyno? Now that’s something else. Saw a 12v71t start lifting the front of the stand off the ground just screaming under full load. Big 92’s. Road service on 12 and 16v149’s. Marine everything even an old wooden girl with a pair of 8v53t. Holy hallelujah the sound.. I was hired for a recall on little Allison’s with a converter recall and ended up working Mainly on 60’s and tranny’s. I stripped and boiled so many two strokes! Holy dirt hardware on a bench! It would fill a three by five easy with bolts etc. I would watch intently when I assisted these masters build them. During a slow down I was sent for a B500 world overhaul course and assorted ddec courses and was being groomed as another transmission tech. During that slowdown I had the pleasure of taking a 4-53 from start to Dyno.manual and memory and the guidance of one of the best I can say I did a great job! That little beast topped 100hp if memory is correct. Keep up the great videos! Let’s hear some more on the governor shifts! Cheers.

The best diesel music is from a Detroit. I was around buses a lot before I started driving trucks and they all had Detroits. The 6.71s of course were my favorites and to this day 55+ years later the sounds of Detroits are always in my mind, never far removed.
The Sangamo speed and tach sure brings back memories before Qualcomms & GPS replaced them.
In one way I miss Ohio (I lived in the northwest part) but where I'm at now in Arkansas the old stuff only has to hibernate for a couple of months and not five.
Newer drivers today don't often appreciate what it's like to drive one of these. It's boring just being a steering wheel holder like it is now.

One of the drivers would let me go with him to make deliveries sometimes, and my love for Ford trucks was born. They had Ford F 600 gas job flatbeds for local deliveries. Sometimes I'd get lucky and a big semi would be in there delivering when I was at the yard. That was the closest thing to a truck stop we had near us

I remember that sound of a 6v71t in a Ford L9000 in the early 80s, I rode with my uncle and helped him unload the truck of liquor and wine, he worked for a place called Minnesota Distillers in Long prairie MN in 1981. I remember him saying "she's plum full today she can't get agoen up this hill". We had about 15 or more stops in Southern Minnesota, that truck was fast,

Believe or not, there were some lorries (trucks) built here in the UK with those engines. They were ' Commer ' lorries, absorbed by GMC, they made a very distinct sound. I never knew back then in the late 60s and into the 70s, why they sounded so different to other UK trucks. A Commer lorry features in a Alfred Hitchcock UK film ( Marnie?) not sure. A pal of mine saw the film and said ' that lorry made a hairy noise'. My dad, a long time lorry driver, said Commers were noisy bas******s. No offence. I liked those noisy bas******s.

I watched it twice I love the sound of the old Detroit engine, it was good to ride along with you. Thank you.
I never worked for anyone that had a Cracker Box. Their day was over when I started driving. A friend of mine had one many years ago. I took a short drive in it just to say I have drove on. It was a 238 with the 10-speed it had a sleeper and tandem axle.
Your videos can make me think back many, many years. It was a good view of the old green gear shift handle.
It is good to see it in a truck again it's probably laid in my toolbox for 40 years. I still have a custom gear shift handle for a 13 speed.
    Keep the great videos coming.

I drove a twin screw Crackerbox w/sleeper and a 238 and 10 speed Road Ranger in it. (And no A/C!) Drove it coast to coast for several months. I NEVER want to experience that again! Salesman at a Kenworth dealer in 89, took a "75" day cab on trade from Forrest Hills Moving. Had to drive it out bobtail to the buyer. Never touched the clutch pedal most of the way. But I swear, every bump, you thought it would fall over on its face. In hindsight, I wish I had spent the 5 grand and bought it for myself. Would have made a great pickup. (Changing out the duals for single wide-ply's in the rear) Nine speed with a Detroit.
Bummed that you showed 1 minute of the truck, and 29 minutes of you.

I had a single axle cabover Ford with a turbo V8 kitty cat and a ten speed. It sure was fun but it never sounded like your 2-stroke there. I love that sound. Your transmission looks a little complicated, is it a split diff? it reminds me how I'd jump gears strategically with the ten speed and leave many big semis sitting there back by the lights looking silly. Of course they'd catch up after they got their act together but I'd usually spank them out of the hole.
I could see you in that Crackerbox with a lift hitch hustling loads back and forth from yards a couple miles apart down the road. Not many jobs would allow you to have that much fun. They've always told me you got to drive those screamin' jimmys like you're angry... because they like that. Thanks for the fun, Subscribed. Cheers!
