@@evanthecameraman I tried doing that with another guy who was selling an FX9 through Production Hub, before I bought this camera. He ghosted me and I almost got myself banned from that platform. It's risky to do that.
Oh yeah! FX3 is a beast!! I see it ALLLLL the time on productions around San Francisco. Beautiful image, great codecs, and easy to color match with other Sony Camera!
From my tests so far, the FX9 gives you a much smoother transition from highlights to shadows, and the FX3 looks more crunchy/contrasty to me. Which makes sense, because the FX9 has a much larger sensor, and a lot more processing power. But color wise they are very similar, and I love the image you can get out of both of them!
FX9 (I have 2) is a bit of a tough sell "on paper" when compared to the FX6 but the FX9 is more rugged in every way. Sure....no AF in S&Q....kinda burns (compared to my FX3 but not dealing with NDs now I have a full vct fx9 setup and the 2nd fx9 lives bare bones bp-u batts and I use the bare bones fx9 for intv only jobs but for broll I prefer the full rigged 9 so I can add aks.
truuuuue I’m in an FX6 Facebook group, and I am constantly seeings posts about parts on it breaking. It is nice how rugged the 9 is. That’s cool to hear how you use your two 9s. Cuz I’m definitely torn on whether I should keep it small or built out bigger 😜 Good hearing your input man!
@@Tommy_Beal if you can handle not being able to slide your vct plate back and forth, then you can pick up a vocas f55/f5 plate. Vocas rod mounts also have almost 3" of travel so 9" rods can be as short as 6" almost. I did this also because it was cheap but mainly because it was a perfectly flat base, and it was reaaslllyyyy slim. Sure not the most comfortable shoulder pad, but it kept my rigged fx9 quite slim. Some vct plates make a camera STUPID tall because of wanting to slide back and forth. I compensate balance by just using heavy or light batteries on the back depending on the lens (as my workaround on balance) My rigged fx9 contains: - vocas f5/f55 vct plate - aluminum rods (front and rear, never carbon) - wooden camera top plate (zero flex when used with metal rods, never carbon fiber) - core swx v-mount plate - no-biggie cable management - misc Velcro with turnaround Velcro patches for sound or TC boxes - 2x cold shoe mounts on the side (for sound recievers....keep those boxes off my handle) - mkh-50 as onboard mic with fat furry, and short right angle xlr - Velcro pouch for earbuds (they NEVER leave the cameras side) - a dtap multi port block thing velcrod to the side - tilta focus whip (the cheap $35 one) permanently installed This does make for a slim but complete build. It allows me to walk out the door without having to "build" it the night before. This above allows me to easily add AKS like 7" or teradec or focus motor.
Oh and I dont use the sony grip. I just use a dumb grip, not even on an arm, just straight rod mount. Which is super small. Which can also be slapped on the back when I'm in easyrig mode (in place of gripping the battery) and my 2nd point of contact is the focus whip.
@@StuHaightVideo Really cool setup you got there man! That Vocas f55 plate looks slim! Oh yeah! FX3 is a beast!! I see it ALLLLL the time on productions around San Francisco. Beautiful image, great codecs, and easy to color match with other Sony Camera!
I've been curious about the Fujinon MK lenses. How do you like them?
oh my goodness they’re amazing!!!!! its hard to use anything else!
I am a Sony A7SIII user for years now, would you say that the image quality is way better than the fx3 ones? Thank you buddy
Cuz I’m definitely torn on whether I should keep it small or built out bigger 😜
Good hearing your input man!
I compensate balance by just using heavy or light batteries on the back depending on the lens (as my workaround on balance)
My rigged fx9 contains:
- vocas f5/f55 vct plate
- aluminum rods (front and rear, never carbon)
- wooden camera top plate (zero flex when used with metal rods, never carbon fiber)
- core swx v-mount plate
- no-biggie cable management
- misc Velcro with turnaround Velcro patches for sound or TC boxes
- 2x cold shoe mounts on the side (for sound recievers....keep those boxes off my handle)
- mkh-50 as onboard mic with fat furry, and short right angle xlr
- Velcro pouch for earbuds (they NEVER leave the cameras side)
- a dtap multi port block thing velcrod to the side
- tilta focus whip (the cheap $35 one) permanently installed
This does make for a slim but complete build.
I definitely would look into that, if I hadn't already picked up the Vocas USBP-15 MKII (I got a great deal on one). Also really interesting hearing about all that you have on your camera, and that you don't like lavalier packs on your handle. Very cool! Sounds very dialed!! And I see what you mean about that dumb grip, and the easy rig setup (by looking at your profile pic). Also you have some really cool work on your website!! Appreciate you taking the time to share your setup with me bro!
How do you go about finding actual work that helps cover the cost of these cams?
watch more of my videos, and you’ll see. It’s a hustle!
I was going back to watch a vlog and this video caught my attention. 22k VIEWS !! DANG!
haha yeahhhh people love gear videos 😜
ahhh me gustaría comprar la FS7, pero llevo unos meses malos :) ¡Bien por ti!
i totally understand man. it took me years to save up enough funds to buy this FX9.
You RENT your Cameras? How does that work? I am genuinely curious (:
oh yeah! its pretty common! renting gear helps you spend less on it, because sometimes you need something specific for a specific job. Friends will rent gear from each other (I just had a friend ask to rent 3 lights and 3 lenses from me for a job he had coming up) and you can also went from a website like sharegrid.com or lensrentals.com its super handy to rent!
WOOO FX9 🎉🎉🎉
🥳🥳🥳🥳
You paid more for tax than I paid for my camera, jesus lmao
haha yeahhh that tax definitely stung a bit
dopeee
🔥🔥🔥
what do shoot dude?
Mainly interviews and docu-style videos for corporate clients. Like you can see here: tommybeal.com
Going back to college to learn videography and need a camera shame I'll never get something this good on a income of £200 a month id love a fs 7 but will never afford it
You can buy a camera if you put money aside and save up. It took me years of work and saving to get to this point.
@@Tommy_Beal Main issue is I am out of work due to an accident and only getting enough money a month for food while government cover utilities and housing no money left to put aside
@@stampydragon2739 ahhh gotcha. That makes sense. Well I believe in you man, you can grow from this and build to things you like better!

@@AndrewChiNguyen The FX30 is awesome! I've got one too and I love it!
nice move
thx bro! hoping it’ll last me a while!!
@@Tommy_Beal like the fs7 back in the days, I think so !
@@TLFILMS Yeahhhh!
that battery you were showing for hotswapping, honestly couldn't you just show up with that in the camera? That way you don't even need to put it in and take it out. You could just hotswap the other battery
that is a good idea. I’ve actually been doing that more recently, its a nice safety. cuz sometimes the battery gets low and i don’t notice.
@@Tommy_Beal oh ye i didnt even think of the safety aspect. sounds like a really nice system
@@S41L0R it is pretty solid! really liking this camera!!

You probably had a blindfold while choosing what to buy, and still wearing it if you think that image looks like $7k :) :) Not to mention the size and weight of that brick unusable for solo shooters :)
a little confused about what you’re saying, but yeah, the image is gorgeous!! And its a great camera for a solo shooter, with how easy it is to shoulder mount, the build in NDs, and all the audio monitoring controls! I’m loving it!
that was a big deal for cinema camera
for me for sure! i am loving this camera! using it regularly now!!
Did the wife approve of the purchase?
she sure did! she listens to me a lot, she’s a big believer in me, and she understood how this camera could help us with our work!
Niche not Nitch. Otherwise video is cool.
okay
😂😂😂 felt quite sea sick with your video jerking around couldnt watch any more
hahaha sorry mate, didn’t mean to take you to sea 😜
