@@JS_Leger - 800 is great if you have enough light, but if you don't, 12800 is amazing. The FX3 helped me shoot some scenes that I could not have nailed with my BlackMagic.

I’ve been using the Ursa G2 for 5+ years now as my main camera. I always hear the same thing from folks on set when they see or hear I use Blackmagic. “Oh are those any good? How do you like it?” Early impressions from Blackmagic have surely affects the public’s opinion on their brand, but when I deliver final images everyone’s reaction is always the same. “Wow this looks incredible! What a fantastic image!” The Ursa G2 is such an incredible camera body and a workhorse that has outperformed since the day it came out. I’m extremely optimistic about the future of the new Cine 12K & 17K line. Everyone in the professional film world will continue to underestimate and shrug off Blackmagics higher end cameras, but at the end of the day, they won’t be able to find a difference in the final image and it’s ease of use in the field.

Yeah. I LOVED the Ursa Mini I had. I picked up an Alexa mini but the ergo of the Ursa did it for me much more than the box shape. Amira & Ursa Mini are basically siblings... Maybe cousins. Love to see the Ursa Mini Pro G2 still going hard. What a camera!
Agreed bu totally missed to point out the interchangeble lens mount, SSD recorder (the SDI problem can be countered with an SDI splitter) ect. Theres no other camera on the market as versatile as the URsa Mini Pro.

Honestly you should try shooting constant quality Q5 over constant bit rate 12:1. The reason is that Q5 can achieve roughly the same texture detail as somewhere between 3:1 to 5:1 when it's needed, and drop lower than 12:1 when it's not needed. The result are often more detailed files with a smaller footprint than 12:1 most of the time.
Finally someone who gets the power of ursas. At work we utilize the full URSA 6k G2. While it is a tad bit larger and heavier, its definitely one of my favorite cameras to work with. Most of the time we urlize a PL mount for broadcast 22x and 99x lenses, but for documentaries we switch to canon/sigma EF lenses.
Thé Ursa Mini Pro is a great camera - I love the 4.6k res, which is all you need, really, and funnily enough is what Arri chose for their new camera. The file sizes are so much more manageable than 6k. I’ve had one die on me after 5 years and another start to go wrong in the same way, so to me reliability is the issue. Also it can be very clean in the blacks in some shots and then suddenly terrible in others, with the dreaded fpn appearing seemingly randomly - it's definitely worth filming lowlight shots at ISO400 to minimise the chance of fpn. The colour science is good, buy it's not an Arri, and I find the colours pretty, but not "classy"-looking. Having ProRes and BRAW is great, but most of all its the ability to change mounts at reasonable prices - I had a b4 mount and this takes tv-style lenses and is an excellent studio or conference camera. It could just do with an hdmi out. Also this is true of all BM cameras - they are so easy to use and so well thought out - the fact that you can toggle a LUT on and off and the false colour will measure the Log image, not the LUT is a massive benefit when compared to Sony cameras. They are an excellent bargain right now and if I were in the market i might prefer one to a Pyxsis. (you get built-in NDs + 300fps + ProRes + more manageable file sizes, meaning much cheaper storage + that interchangeable mount option is massive. The only thing to watch out for is in case BM stop repairing it, like they did with the G1. oh yes, and the evf is excellent too.
my favorite camera of all time - as an owner operator. used a ton, from docs to filming my first short movie that got a couple of awards. feels like it’s time to upgrade but I still can’t justify or find something that feels like… a real upgrade
Ive had mine for years now. It really is a workhorse, even though my sensor crapped out on me. BMD replaced the sensor and its been great for years till now Its my main camera. The only real upgrade is the 12k Cine...which I hope to get. Kinda pricey though.

I had ursa G2, and sold it because got into influence of all other youtubers about cameras. I was really happy about my R5C and I am still happy, because it is also photo camera, but I opened my old home archives videos, where i was just filming my 1,5 year old child making 1st steps, and the image from g2 was something unexplainable, it was more organic then other cameras I used. So after 2 years with DSLRS I have now Ursa 12k next to me. The Image from this camera is 1 step better then all other DSLRS even the Komodo feels too digital for me then URSA. It is much harder to use this camera, but like i explained to my wife. I am struggling with this camera because I love it. Guys I bought even Easyrig(weill kinda cheap one) to use it, and I am even not making videos for earning, just family stuff. =) if i ever get new camera it will be URSA CINE 12k
Had one of these. First one I had featured a bad sensor, swapped it out for a new one. Second one was dope. Loved it, the image quality was great. That being said, the thing is massive and for the work I was doing at the time, it wasn’t for me. Ended up selling it. I still love the image I was able to get out of it.
The Ursa line is great! Hopefully down the line they add a 6K or 8K full frame Ursa Cine down the line with dual ISO like the Broadcast G2. Another option if you want full frame with an Ursa is to install the Luc Adapter. That’s my plans later down the line if I feel I need to with the Broadcast G2. The Pyxis is nice and probably way more travel friendly than an Ursa, but with the built in NDs, it’s very hard to move away from it.
Just picked up a brand new G2 on discount for £3k GBP. Paired it with my trusty Contax Zeiss 28mm 2.8. After recording about 10 seconds of footage I knew I'd made the right choice!
Cool I owned the OG 4.6k , not sure how much the image improved with this camera since they both used the same sensor , the OG camera did show a lot of pattern noise , it hated to be under exposed .l, not only because of noise , it would loose color info also
Loved mine, best IQ/price/ease of use. From handheld with a v-mount to monster rig, it can do it all ! I really wished Blackmagic would have kept Prores in their new models. BTW you will want the rawlite olpf for that camera ;). (IR & MOIRE) and stay away from the "speedboosters" from this camera.
thanks for the video! I'm new to blackmagic camera, and I hear that the autofocus is not on par with sony camera for a solo shooter (i.e.I film myself). What's your take on the G2 for solo creators? specially in terms of autofocus?
I own the G2 and I love it. But for some reason, the G1 is running on a newer software that allows you to custom input your aspect ratio guides, but the G2 doesn’t allow this so ever since I had to get rid of my G1, I haven’t been able to shoot 2.2:1 which is so annoying cause I love that aspect ratio

Yeah that’s basically why. I usually like all “non-color” adjustments to be at the end of the node tree so they affect the final image instead of the image in progress. The reason I put the density node lower is just personal preference. It would probably make sense to put it in the CST sandwich but I found it a little easier to dial in at the end of the node tree

I have seriously thought about it. Many times. But the fact that pretty much all support is dead and there are no more future updates forthcoming makes it hard to justify.
I’d buy this in two seconds if it could shoot in Gen 5. Having to switch in post in premiere on my 4K/6k before I updated the firmware was frustratingly slow and made it impossible for me to put a base lut on a large batch in media composer. Fingers crossed!
Trust me Jake, you don’t wanna play with the Ursa Major… I did it for 3 years. Stick with the dream in your head. The Ursa mini pro g2 is light years ahead of the Ursa Major, as I call it
I'm actually quite curious, because I plan to pick one up, is this camera pretty noisy at 3200 iso? I generally don't need to film that high but I've been looking at this or the 6k pro (I have 2 p4ks), and this intrigues me because of the dynamic range, full size XLR and v-mount ability on camera, but the 6k pro has that dual native 400/3200 which helps with noise. Do you find that the 3200 iso has a lot of noise? But also, great review! This camera is such an insane tool that still holds up 5 years later
I recently purchased a used G1. I was over the moon to have it and agree with just about everything you said. Sadly, I had to return it. I shot an important project on it and, for some reason, some of the clips were corrupted. Not sure why, camera was a champ on shoot day, but yeah really put a sour taste in my mouth. I have had friends tell me horror stories of Blackmagic being unreliable like I just stated, which sucks because I used to own a pocket 4K and NEVER had any issues with it. Anyways, super sad it didn't workout because I loved how I was able to minimally rig up my camera.
I had two UMPs die on me, so I think reliability is an issue. I had no problems with the Pocket 4k for 5 years but overall BM cameras aren’t as consistent as Canon or Sony - they are cheaper, so it makes sense.
What’s your thoughts on this camera VS a Pyxis? Or a Pyxis with a good cage that has the ports you need? MiD49 makes a really nice cage that gives your full xlrs and other ports with it.
Pyxis is a pseudo cinema camera - you still have to buy a lot of additional accessories to make it workable. It becomes messy and non streamlined with many work around. Umpg2 with the EVF is much closer to a true cinema camera, from factory it’s missing 2 things but they can be fixed easily, OLPF and wooden camera breakout side plate and you’re good to go. Has all the ports and power options you’ll need and interchangeable lens mounts, and an on board screen which is usable

@@romainmartel Check 2nd had market for slightly used or returned units Its better because there is no risk of cable getting bent or being unplugged during recording, no chance of water damage from rain or spilling etc etc. You wont find an SSD attached to any camera in a serious work environment generally
Worse, fixed lens mount, bad readout and many missing ports. Requires breakout plate for v mount too, controls are awkward on shoulder if balanced properly etc etc The fact that you can’t use their own monitor and evf at the same time with the Pyxis is silly.

That handle fits perfectly with this camera. The Canon C100 and C200 was the first cinema cameras I used and gain my "professional" experience on.
I've also been using the G2 I just wish prores had the V5 color science!

The density I can't speak for it, but the grain and texture is probably because he doesn't want the CST to affect the colors of those.

Love the camera, love the video. But you said "it's taking the grade really well" but you weren't really doing anything to push the footage at all.
I have seriously thought about it. Many times. But the fact that pretty much all support is dead and there are no more future updates forthcoming makes it hard to justify.

3:20 is just handheld micro jitter. Hard sell to go back to handheld, super hard sell. I cant go back to those times......

If you can afford it, the UMP 4.6K G2 without question
MUCH better rolling shutter and dynamic range, and you can change to GEN 5 color in post

the first ursa mini 4k is still one of my favorite cameras. the global shutter and form factor are very underrated
