About What Had Happened Was:
Open Mike Eagle Sits down with the legendary creators in hip-hop to discuss their life, impact, and legacy over the course of a season. Season one covers DJ Prince Paul (De La Soul, Handsome Boy Modeling School). Season two covers El-P (Company Flow, Run the Jewels) Brought to you by Stony Island Audio.
My favorite producer beat maker to ever exist.
He's criminally underrated
LP's beats are so fat you could spread them on bread. Absolutely loved it
Sampling Gang of Four to make a modern hip hop classic is exactly why EL-P is a legend and why I love him! I didn’t even realize that song was sampled
Those past musicians are so silly. Rap samples brings them back to a new generation.
Company Flow!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Company Flow 🔥
i grew up pre el p era but my crew were always into that type of sonic sound.. el p is a legend and goat,, excellent interview.. if i may ask how could i contact you in regards to interviews.. i have a few artists and producers that may be of interest. keep it up. hope to help network.
I resonate with El P on a lot of production/artist sensibilities he lays bare here.
Always loved El-ps material from company Flow onwards
Wow what great questions to ask the all-mighty el-p
but the Hight and the Mighty were two different dudes^^
fantastic candid ish
BEAST.
You just inspired me to get an EPS 16 plus EL-P Thanks your friend from Denmark (we meet in Aarhus you at the concert with light and sound interruption you did acapella with style!) ❤
Dope
Great fuggin shit Iv been listening and enlightened
That 2 chains beat is the lick 👅
This is the exact conversation id love to have with bro as well. Question number 1 would be how the pigeon beat came about.
Exactly. The key in rap was how can I flip that
Honestly it's so on-brand for El-P to have shit mic/video quality during an interview lmaooo
for me as a graphic designer, he's the best collage artist! he's making some monalisa pieces.. looks like new version of monalisa, in a more sexier way! genius!
I wish he kept going with Def Jux he knew how to pick Great Artists for that Label that label had the most unique cutting edge Modern HipHop to this day. I know I will be the misfit here but I love everything EL has ever done except his RTJ work its just sounds too Bama for my taste personally not feeling it. I really miss his dirty Dusty NYC Dark Industrial thing I felt a Great Freedom when listening to that stuff + it was way more poetic and Live as FCUK!
You’re not alone. But artists need some kind of change, I guess.
After I heard that Mr. Lif - Phantoms produced by El-P I decided he was a god on the beats
This is great. El-P should bring back more of his old-school sampling style tho. It might not be whats pop right now but there's a market for old school 90's sounds. A modernized version of that, plus his even more political lyrics with Killer Mike, would be amazing imo.
TBH the fandam era shit holds up pretty well and does not sound dated at all imo
dooooope
Listen to “people are shady” by Company Flow. Such a unique beautiful instrumental
Sound is sound
Go back... Can Ox . Imho
Still the goat
Tell me your secret ways, haha yes all 8 steps hahahaha 😮
So do we know who The Ground Below was meant to be with?
Elton John
EL-P kinda looks like an old Yung Lean
Yeah, Yung Lean does look like young El-P without facial hair.
Hip-hop is sample based music.
Chill out with the video cuts.
When kanye blew up on the scene with Chaka khan' everybody that loved what he did wanted to revisit her, and it brought her back.
Rap sampling us a buffet... you will not really know which song is going to hit. Can make 50 songs all samples and 1 is a mega hit. The key should be if it hits that big then pay an agreed upon percentage.
But to pay for 50 samples and 1 only hits... the sampling producer loses.
The song has to hit first like biggie 1 more chance... then pay
Bro cut some beastie boy breaks and roulette their shit please
he looks so different here wtf
He's old af
He’s in his 40s and his camera is 40 yrs old
