I think that Trove was directly based off of Cube World actually, the devs probably saw the missed potential from the Cube World devs basically abandoning the idea when it was in alpha, and then made their own take on it. I remember enjoying the Cube World alpha a bunch, but felt sad when the devs stopped updating it, then really got into Trove when it came out since it reminded me a lot of it. And God was the official release for Cube World horrible, basically nothing was changed from the Alpha, and a big reason a lot of people hated it was that it felt to the community like the devs were pretty much just trying to get more money off a project they abandoned Hell, I remember when Trove came out, people were calling IT the "Cube World clone", how the times change.. oh hey my review for cubeworld is amongst this video (dartel, the one begging wooley to not abandon it again). but yeah no the reason cubeworld is so negative is the fact that the PREVIOUS ALPHA HE MADE was better than the main game, with levelled regions, better weapon smithing, actual levelling instead of gear. the last part ESPECIALLY is where the complaints come in. i would be fine with a gear level system but the way its executed is everytime you go to a new region, the gear you have gets DOWNGRADED TO BASIC STARTER GEAR UNLESS ITS THE REGION YOU FOUND IT. and it just flat out killed the game hard. less to do, punished for exploring, and i believe the world was even less randomly generated and now a preset world where your spawn is just randomized? so much changed and we were told NONE OF IT till woolay came back, he blamed his fans for his disappearance for ddossing his website (it was just a popular game with too much traffic for the website to handle.) and scaring him. as of now though he does say he is working on a update that changes the engine and reverts back to alpha-like gameplay.
As someone who uses 100% volume and just turns down the game volume and is sensitive to loud noises, I would probably be sent to the ER if I heard that
The biggest issue with cubeworld is the regional progression. Like any open world there are enemies that are higher level so finding the weakest for the beginning is key.
