Elephant threatens to charge when we're stopped for coffee

- At Timbavati Reserve (South Africa) we'd had a slow game drive in the morning when we stopped for coffee. All of a sudden an elephant bull came charging down and threatened to charge the vehicle (which we promptly got back in). We were forced to antagonise it further as one of the group was in the bushes going to the toilet and we had to save her. Exciting stuff.

In all my time in Africa one thing I learned is that you don't stop for for coffee on a game drive. Also if an elephant approaches you don't sit there laughing, Flaired ears to make himself look big, throwing the trunk and pacing is a perfectly clear message that he wants you gone.
Catseyes QQ - Stopping for a coffee, comfort break or sundowners is not a problem. Just choose your spot carefully and remember that Wildlife always has priority.
Cateseye QQ you are right they usually give you a warning and you better move away ... but having coffee is not wrong ...u just need to get off their way when they warn you , not immediately though let them know you understand , speak like he did that Ok calm down we are leaving it is a very intelligent animal it understands & assumes that you got the message ...

Nice elephant posturing notice the head held high attitude, ears spread making him look bigger. No imminent danger here no tail erect no trunk curled under, no head lowered, no charge on the cards, Yes agitated quick movements, head movement but just posturing. Good encounter,r well done staff good response, clients never in danger but given a great experience. Bull also had a great experience he choose to come forward , had plenty of room to move .

He was incredibly good he says: " You're in elephant territory and I could charge!" The next elephant could be in a bad mood or even be in musk. See him as a courteous landowner who just advised you in a friendly way that you were trespassing.

That was cool, someone says, at the end as we see a man & woman staring at the animal thru their cameras on and on as the elephant leaves, holding the focus to the last possible moment of picture-taking, staring till only the back side of the elephant is available, then the laughter. Animals don't like being stared at any more than we do. These people do not truly respect wildlife, they are sightseers looking for a thrill, some good pictures to show their friends, some excitement, maybe a scare to enliven the trip, not visiting with reverence and respect for whose space they are in.

There was no teasing here. The guide had to move the veh8cle to collect a guest who was relieving themselves in the bushes. Everything was done by the book and resulted in the safety of all concerned. Please read the video description to get adequate context before you make accusations.

If animal could talk in "English" they will definitely tell you how rude and intensive most of the tourist around them. Just laugh and giggle for nothing around them. Way too much annoying ! These so called clever bunches never even bother to understand that animals are very sensitive to the sounds.
Animals are still sane try not to hurt until they lost their peace for nothing. But idiotic tourist make sure they leave impression of their ill behavior towards these being of nature in most such trips! The most advance being of nature lost the sense to respect nature, such things are obvious.
