🛠️ ESSENTIAL SETUP ADVICE: In Unreal Engine, go to your Settings (Topright), Plugins, and ensure Alembic Groom Importer is checked and Groom (Just type in Groom in the search and they will appear). Remember to restart your project after enabling it! Made a little video here to show you below:

This step is vital for importing the Alembic file from Blender seamlessly. Without this, your hair creations might not transfer correctly!

Followed this tutorial to a T and get "failed to import" error. It says "please see output log for details" and when I check the output log, the error says "failed to import. See output log for details."
EDIT: if anyone has this problem, make sure you have the Groom Importer plugin enabled. I missed that
Thanks man, pinned this! Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner. Here is a quick video showing plugins needing to be install (they are
free)

@@promptmuse Woow - You are fast -- Installed the plugin but still is importing as a static mesh... .
Thank you for your reminder. I wasted half a day on this error message today.
@@kameleonlight For me, the essential step I missed was turning off "show emitter" for all the different particle systems created.
@@kameleonlightтоже самое... Даже со включенными плагинами, скальп с волосами под Groom импортирует только скальп без волос в виде объекта как статическую сетку... Не знаю как быть
Being a chrome domed fellow myself, adding hair to my characters always brings a tear of reminiscence to my eye.
🤣 Give them bad hair styles, we still control these avatar puppets and their fates, for now !
Thank you teacher! It all finally clicked in my head. After weeks of watching videos the algorithm finally got it right.
Thanks for explaining in logical way that's not distracting to my AdHD brain 🙂
You should also mention to Add Groom Importer Plugin in Unreal Engine to Import Alembic as a groom Importer.
Thanks☺
IM SO GLAD I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL... so helpful
Thankyou 🫶
The most helpful Hair Curves tutorial I've seen so far
I felt like hair seemed to be the most scariest and intimidating to make, and your tutorial was so easy to flow, well explained, no spots where I lost what you were doing, and in one day I made my first hair!!! and now i can confidently start to make my custom characters hair, thank you so much! you made a daunting task, actually fun an enjoyable!!!
@@johnc9926 thank you so much ! Good luck with the rest of your journey 🤍
This is gold for 3D developers , Thank you very much.
@@BEYONDREALIZM Thank you ! If you do follow it and get stuck at any point I put an FAQ pinned 👍
Did metahuman download for you, have been struggling to download a single model for days
You are truly gifted for showing a complex and quite involved process in a logical well-explained tutorial!!! Thanks!!!!
Thank you so much! Sometimes when making the videos I worry about the speed and flow. I’m glad you enjoyed it - Thanks again for the kind comment 🫶

that is a dope tutorial, saved me so much time and increased my revenue a lot as im now available to create custom hairstyles for metahuman! THANK YOU SO MUCH
Awesome! I've got a tutorial coming up next which hopefully with help your business produce models faster :)
Your tutorial is a rare pearl ! Perfect explanations and workflow🙏🙏
Aww thanks ! I’m glad it helped!! 🙏
This is the best tutorial for all kind of 3D I have ever watched :) Thank you! It's concise, pro, step-by-step and to the point. Just WOW!
Watched so many tutorials, so many...could have saved so much time if I just watched this one first. Before I was exporting the curves as an Alembic directly. This was allowed, Unreal even imported the groom, but the asset had an invalid attributes, leaving some of my hair strands stupidly thick. I believe this is the reason why it must be converted to particles first. It seems that some of my hair thickness logic in geometry nodes didn't get mapped to particles because the particle converted version was also too thick. So I tweaked the particle width to thin the hair to a proper amount, and then finally that export looked the same as in Blender. Thank goodness!!!
This is the 8th video on creating hair in Blender that I've watched and the ONLY one that made sense, and worked. THANK YOU!
Suprisingly more easy than i thought. Well made video. Already got the process more or less memorized
Fantastic tutorial head to toe. Showed the goal at the beginning, no stumbling around looking for things, perfect pace, easy to understand. Not only is this a very well done tutorial for the round trip groom workflow, but it is an example to others on how to make tutorials in general. Thanks for making it!
Bwahhahaa! I've just spent the morning looking through tutorials for this exact workflow and you posted this an hour ago! You are a godsend. Thank you!
Amazing, good timing eh!!! I hope it will be useful for your project 👍🙏
honestly amazing pacing and explanation, thank you! love your tone of voice and patience of explaining, super helpful! Had my trial today and I learned a lot - although the wig came out quite bald =)) back at it tomorrow implementing a step I missed - working in sections!
Girl, i cannot express how much you've helped me!!! I was trying to figure this out for literally years and now I know how to do it because of you 🎉
Thank you very much 🥰

This is the best hair tutorial on TH-cam, thank you so much! I've had a lot of experience with hair particles in Blender, combing them, adding root and tip color variance, etc. but this method is so much more efficient than growing the hair particle from a mesh. This is amazing!
It didn't cross my mind that this was possible, thank God I can make it in blender without any issues. the first Unreal Engine 5 walkthrough it like an eye-opener, thank you for making this video.
Thank you so much for this video. Have been struggling for a few years now trying to make the slightest progress on a main character. The hair proved to be complicated even with the new blender nodes. I was able to follow along and I actually got it. Bouncy but it's there. Now for some clothes.
Awesome ! Yes onto he the clothes !!! I may make an update onto this video with some extras. But would love to add clothes 🫡
Tutorial maravilhoso! Assisti muitos tutoriais sobre Groom Hair e esse é de longe o melhor de todos. Parabéns pelo seu trabalho. Muito obrigado por compartilhar.
She is gorgeous! I’m not talking about the meta human either! 😍 Thanks for the lesson!
I absolutely love your videos - extremely well organized and presented, with all the 1, 2, 3s from A to Z! I'll be posting my sci-fi hairstyles on your social media platforms (except TikTok!) very soon. And as soon as the money starts rolling in, I'll be your most generous patron - promised! :-)
I knew that if someone was to do a video tutorial about this, it WOULD be YOU. TSM for another amazing video!!
Haha Thank you! Wanted to do this for a while! I knew there had to be an easy free way somewhere 🫶 Lots and lots of trial and error to get the flow correct- I’m so glad you enjoyed. Thanks for dropping the lovely comment 🔥
What a beautiful author! She speaks so soulfully! :))) I am your fan!
Easy to follow, A few things i had to work out though, THE PLUG IN, if thats not installed the Groom importer wont work, Plugins->Groom, Tick : restart
Then if you want to adjust the stiffness of the hair, its in the physics, under Bend Stiffness: setting it to 0.06 id a harsh almost not bendy, BUT it stops the really wild flicking about when moving around...
other than this...... ABSOLULTELY stunning video!
I work with modifiers all the time so i wont be changing this this method works and YEY, now, since my first hair was more straight no style, its a start!!
THANK YOU EVER SO MUCH!!! amazing
(Also just noticed mentioning the Groom importer plug in) anyway... THANK YOU!!!
One of the Most clean and clear tutorials ive seen. thank you !
Thank you 🙏 That means a lot to me 💫
This is greatly appreciated! I was a little intimidated by using the hair tools in Blender!
I think they can be quite intimidating as there are quite a few options! Glad you found it useful 🙏🔥
great tutorial! I am using CC4 characters, so the simple attach worked for me. I had to play with the parameters in the hair groom to make my hair look like something, and I had to tweak the physics, but I got a decent little curly afro.
unreal doesn't recognize it as groom, it opened another window which lets me choose between static mesh, geometry cache and skeletal mesh. I followed all the export settings and I don't know why its not the groom one.
EDIT: the "Alembic Groom Importer" plugin inside unreal engine was turned off. make sure it is turned on.
Thank you for your guidance on this @yogevos, been away from my Pc so just manage to get a little video together for anyone who is stuck www.patreon.com/posts/supplementary-97824272?Link&
Thanks! I actually had the same problem.
Thanks for the help 🙌
@@promptmuse I've enabled the plugins but still don't get the groom import options, only getting the scalp as static mesh as an option

An excellent tutorial, packed with relevant info and straight to the point. Using Blender's hair particle system and alembic importing is a bit intimidating, but you made it simple. Thanks.
Amazing tutorial! really was looking forward in to this info.. thanks a lot!
Excellent teaching, excellent clip, lots of talent
straight to the point and clear. subbed.

Wow ❤ so straight forward and no hassle
You're getting more and more beautiful and your videos are stunning. I saw your video being shown in the Realusion advertisement oooooo how great.
Abs.
Thank you so much for this, was going crazy trying to figure out how to export to UE, converting to particle system was the part I was missing. Cheers
Great video!
Thanks !!! 🔥
i love the tutorial so far but from someone who learned maya before blender i have a few questions :
1. 7:43 - Enable Scalp Collisions button isnt there?
- The Scalp Collision button seems to not appear for me? Is it something that has to be activated in the plugins?
2. How to ”smooth” the hair ?
- In Maya, there is a parameter called CV that allows you to control the number of control vertices (CVs) on each hair. In blender, i see that its 8 by default but id wish to upscale that number so i have more control over how the hair bends when i comb it. How do you do that?
3. 9:11 Everything in the Asset Browser is missing ?
I only have one thing when i open the ”All” option and its a thing called Unassigned. I dont have Hair nor all the hair options.
Thanks for answering love u xox
FOUND THE ISSUE !!! A very important setting that wasnt mentioned is before even starting the tutorial make sure that, in Blender, you go to Edit - Preferences - Interface - Developer Extras and make sure its ENABLED !!! This will fix you many problems along the way like not being able to enable Scalp Collisions due to the button not appearing (7:43) & will make everything in the Asset Browser finally appear (9:11)
Incredibly useful video. Thanks!!
Wow❤ thank you so much for sharing this! You made it look simple. I am going to give it a try
Wow i was always wondering if its posible thanks for mak8ng this tutorial appreciate it ! 😊👌🏽
Any time! :)
When i take the hair back to ue5 it is a little bit of from the head, is there a way to transform the default location to make it fit the head?
Thank you so much for the video! It is very easy to follow and I learned a lot as a Blender beginner :)
Thank You very much for this tutorial, can you make one for Custom Clothes and Jewelleries?
🥰Thank You😍💓
thanks a lot for this usefull tutorial, was looking for this.
Works perfectly here, thanks a lot!
That looks really good! Earned a subscribe :)
Amazing thank you!!
yoo idk if you know it but unreal does generate hair cards now, for optimization. pretty neat!
Great Tutorial, subscribed, helped me a lot, Although, not much of a stylist :). Thanks best one yet
Awesome ! Thanks for the sub Mick 🔥
Brilliant tutorial!
This tutorial is awesome. Thank you.
Thank you so much !
So after I bind the groom and the facemesh, I found the bund one is the "extra" one and because it was not direct on the head, I needed to adjust location, now after binding, it was relocated to the ground and I cannot move it anymore. I tried to unbind the groom in BP and wanted to adjust the "extra" one's location, but I cannot delete the extra one, there is no such a thing in the outliner. And before binding both are in the same place, only after binding the location of the extra one moved and cannot be adjust anymore...
Actually the greatest tutorial. Thanks Prompt Muse!
Can u make more videos about adjusting metahumans like export to change clothing in blender or marvelous designer and import back to UE 5.3 for a game project please 😊
Yeah would love to. Something I’m looking at the moment. 🙏🫶

Thank ypu for your tutorial! I have a problem: when I trying to create binding it failes with message: ''failed to create groom binding''
have an solution?
This tutorial is the best
This was amazing, thank you!
hello! great tutorial! i've made a few grooms that have worked but recently i have this issue - when i add the binding asset to the groom it seems to shift and doesnt fit the head? everything works well until i put on the binding asset. Has this happened to you??
Amazzing video!!! FInally a good one on hair. Thx a lot!
Thanks so much for the tutorial! Now how do I export this custom haired metahuman to my metahuman library? Can somebody help me because I've been looking for a solution for so long :(( I want to use this character in my game but I just can't find a way to import it!
Awesome work!
Fantastic tutorial, very helpful for custom hair
I've been trying to add custom facial hair for a year now, this video is great but when I try to bind the groom asset I get an error every time.
Hello friend, woud you be able to let me know what your groom asset error in UE says (If it indeed says anything at all). Hopefully its an easy fix
Ok so I fully restarted and got everything working except the mustache is clipping through the face when I use live link. The beard I made is working now though so I'm not too sure why that is. @@promptmuse
I restarted from the beginning and was able to get all the binding issues to work. The only issue now is clipping in the mustache when using the live link. The beard (different groom asset) moves with the jaw perfectly fine but for some reason the mustache isn't working the same. @@promptmuse
Great tutorial and to the point! Loved it! I was wondering if there is a way to have our hair permanently tied to the metahuman for every project (so i we have to do this import every time)? Maybe make an asset pack migration or something like that? Do you know of anything I can do, or another tutorial that may show that?
Spasibo! (Thank you!)
(Solved) Thank you so much for making this amazing tutorial. I am having issues with the curl modifier. when I adjust frequency, nothing appears to change, curls don't seem curl more, I deleted the guides and added new ones with 18 segments. The curls seem to be very low poly. very harsh sharp turns instead of a smooth curl. ***FIX*** I had the frequency set to high on the curl modifier (0.47 vs 0.047)
I don’t see any option for tweak
I love this video, it has helped tremulously! Would you be willing to do a video on how to make a beard?
Thank u, this is soooo helpful!!!
Awesome ! Thanks for the comment. You are more than welcome 🫶🔥
great tutorial 👍
just wanna ask anyone who reads this.
does this work in game or only on cinematic?
what's the average vertex count?
Very useful, thanks!
You are welcome 🎊🙏
question: when importing alembic file it opens an alembic cache import option and doesn't give me groom import option(the plugins are installed) it only gives me the options of importing as static mesh or geometry cache or skeletal... and even importing it as static mesh it only imports the scalp without the hair... can you help me fix it?
ok.. after hours of trying I figured the problem. for anyone that might have the same problem you have to UNCHECK "show emitter" for BOTH render and viewport in particles (in blender)
fantastic resource, thaaaankyou
you are a queen ... thank you
Everything is awesome - just Unreal 5.3 imports the */abc file as a static mesh... W=hat can I do ?
Hey, in UE in Settings>plugins just ensure you have Groom Importer plugin enabled. Then restart UE. Does that resolve your issue? 🙏
Oh, if that doesn’t work. Go back to the 16:00 min mark in the video. As I recall these steps have to be exact otherwise it will be important as a mesh 🤞
@@promptmuse exactly i did this several times and i applied before my only one scalp - selected .. And finally it imports as a mesh.. :(
it imports not the groom - it imports "alembic cach import options" instead of "groom import options"...
I deleted eveyrthing, just left the scalp - also imports "alembic" in Unreal as a static mesh...
awesome tut ! can you also make a video using haircards for this pipeline blender / Unreal ?
It’s in the making !!! Going to get one out for Wednesday you may like also 🙏 Blender
Great tutorial, just have one problem, when I convert the curves to the particle system, the shape of the hair changes, despite already applying the modifiers, increasing the strand steps helped, but still do not fully solve the problem. Anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thank you for the instruction. I really want to create custom eyebrows. Will you show me how in Blender? They don't have many female eyebrows, but eyebrows are so important to make a face.
Amazing video - Remember me when you reach 1 million subs!! ❤

I made long hair style and the hair seems to go inside the body (torso) is there a way to fix this?
When I try importing the alembic to Unreal it doesn't give me the groom import box, just alembic cache import. I think all the export settings were the same, and I added the groom import plugin someone else mentioned about in the comments. Any suggestions what I should do?
Edit: I figured out I needed to remove the normal alembic import plugin for it to work.
thanks! that helped me together with activating the alembic groom importer!
If Unreal wants to import your Alembic (.abc) file as static/skeletal mesh, make sure to select proper extension (Alembic hair strands instead of all files).
Thanks for this in depth tutorial ! Is there any nice looking hair 3D model library somewhere ?
Check the Uneal market place for hair :) Some on there to purchase
