    Brilliant video James! Don’t be shy to entertain us with longer videos, especially when it’s about such rare subjects as an engine refit.

    I find these videos absolutely brilliant. To better understand how yachts work, the technical aspects and engineering is really something. And your knowledge of the technical stuff James is really impressive. What a passion you clearly have for the Sunseeker brand. Thanks.

    James - you are an absolute 'G' - these in depth session of vlogs help to inform the market on the intense lengths yacht builders go to test proof factory production models. It's great to design and build a bespoke yacht but when it's one of a kind it will potential (80/20) come along with several untested areas/components which only time will see.
    My takeaway from this series of vlogs, are the benefits of purchasing a tried and tested production model from a historically super strong brand like Sunseeker - totally get it 🏆

      Hi Stuart, I should have emphasised that this sort of almost direct access is quite rare in the wider market, but Sunseeker have always been very good at future proofing the machinery serviceability. Sometimes this work requires cutting big holes in the deck/side of a yacht!

      @@TheVirtualYachtBroker hi James thanks for insight. I thought after seeing the engines out that was more of something generally done within the industry, proof again that some will go the extra distance

    Thanks James (and your colleagues) that was fascinating and great use of different camera angles. It’s easy to forget when watching the walkthrough videos just how much real engineering goes into the building of these vessels. Now you need to get hold of the marketing department and get them to add woolly hats to the branded clothing along with the masks etc.🤠

    James,
    Great Video. Keep the variety coming.
    When the engines have been lifted out do the access hatches get replaced or is it a temporary cover to stop ingress of the elements into engine bay?
    Cheers
    Roger

    • @TheVirtualYachtBroker
      @TheVirtualYachtBroker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Roger, hatches straight back into place so that the guys can gain access around the yacht for other works. She is now indoors for the works to continue unaffected by the weather.

  • @HoltJeremy
    @HoltJeremy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    James, how often does this normally occur for boats of this size and or after how many hours of engine run time?

    • @TheVirtualYachtBroker
      @TheVirtualYachtBroker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeremy, some owners refit after a couple of seasons, other boats can be original for 20+ years. In this instance the owner is doing a large cosmetic upgrade along with a thorough check of the systems, so it was an opportune time to check over the engines etc whilst the access was easy to get at. She will be almost as-new when finished (with a lot of new tech also onboard).

    Why are the gearboxes single speed and not variable or multi geared

    • @TheVirtualYachtBroker
      @TheVirtualYachtBroker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most pleasure yachts are single speed gearboxes, although the may have a system where you can effectively 'slip the clutches' to allow running at a slower speed for manoeuvring etc (often called a trolling valve). These gearboxes have that function which is handy in the tight confines of a marina/river etc.

    how much does it cost for a job like that to remove engines?

    • @TheVirtualYachtBroker
      @TheVirtualYachtBroker  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The complete refit was around £1.2m of which approx £350k was the engine overhaul.
