    An aluminium power catamaran that that achieve performance, range, ocean crossing capabilities in all kinds of weather conditions, year around, is certainly a game changer. Love the concept! Love the woodwork in the cabin and in the master head. Not so much on the main deck where the woodwork seems very simple by comparison. Why does the helm have to be that high, obstructing a lot of the view from inside the main deck? This boat could certainly use a lifting hydraulic platform to both carry a tender and to serve as a beach club. The Archipelago 47 is certainly an exciting new boat!

    What a wonderful vessel. I captained a Morelli and Melvin 67 foot all aluminum power cat. Twin 960 HP Catarpillars. Speeds to 40 kts. Very nice displacement power cat. Ran her for about 2 yrs. Very capable in heavy weather. Wet but amazingly smooth. And a joy to handle.

    Really nice vessel, would like to see stainless steel hand rails installed both in side and on deck. Also would like to see dingy placement, and means of launching it. With that nice flat roof solar set up. It may have lots of speed, but 15 knots would be fine, better mileage.

  • @zallen99
    @zallen99 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I’d prefer a more raked forward dash panel instead of the more vertical orientation here. A bit awkward for navigation and throttle use. But this is bull #1 so I’m sure a lot of evolutionary changes are possible as more owners get their hands on her. Overall a beautiful boat. If a power cat can be ISO Certified Class A and get 3000 nm range with decent fuel burn, sign me up. The advantage of floor space on a cat is a massive plus during long distance cruising.

    I love your video about the quasi-industrial design and specs of this beautiful power Cat. I don't like the low-side rails (basically useless and a serious tripping hazard) with their low height. They may look pretty but they are totally useless. I would also like to see a flip-up wave protector in front of the helm windows. One decent wave would bust straight through to the helm. I'm not a fan of the vertical helm station either. The throttles could easily be jostled fore or aft based on waves or other boat movements.

    It's an interesting design but there's definitely room for improvement. The helm station is awful - the console is way too high (really interfering with the view through the windscreens) and far too boxy. Lots of spray coming through the trampoline foredeck - just make it a solid foredeck and hugely increase the storage space and usability. Insufficient seating space for eight people in comfort. No swim platform or dinghy davits/cradle. Overall I like it, especially the bedrooms, but I think hull #1 is a proof of concept.

    • @archipelagoyachts
      @archipelagoyachts ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hi Ian - indeed you're correct that hull no1 is a proof of concept. We have a long list of modifications for boat 2 including spray deflectors for the inner hulls. The interior is totally customisable and the helm station was designed very much as an industrial / commercial style. This will be changed for all future boats unless owners want a commercial helm. The solid foredeck is an interesting idea, but not something we wish to pursue as it will reduce the sea keeping in very heavy head-seas. Thanks for your comments - all great observations.

    A couple of questions come to mind, given the hull design, a Kite-Sail would be perfect to stretch its "Legs" even further; the Roof Rack lends itself for PV Panels so what is the Limits of a LiFePO3 Battery Bank and is there provision for EV propulsion? Is there space for a Tender?

    • @archipelagoyachts
      @archipelagoyachts ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Michael, thanks for your comments. We are absolutely exploring things like kite-sail. Equally we can fit solar panels on the roof. Given this is a semi-bespoke design we will fit propulsion depending on owner requirements. Clearly not a great deal of point fitting solar and EV in high latitudes where this boat will ultimately reside, but a mid-latitudes it's more than possible. Tender will be either crane to roof, or davits depending on owner requirements.

    that boat would be incredibly if it had a hybrid drive system, a big battery bank and the roof covered in solar panels.
    you would basically have unlimited range and the solar panels would easily cover all regular power uses like AC or basically anything else running on the boat.

    A compelling clean design with the following observations:
    Helm:
    It looks like the helm station is too close to the screens and the screens are too vertical. I am not sure if this is just from the perspective of the camera pointing downward but it feels like the operator's view is blocked by a near vertical control panel. It should be angled further back.
    Cleats:
    I only see two port and two starboard cleats on the upper decks. I know there are additional ones to aft as well. Tieing up when sidelong would seem difficult. For single handed operation, unless you are using remotes to control things, one would need to walk briskly through the cabin to get out an tie up (could be tough on a windy day).
    Port and starboard hulls:
    They seem just a little on the narrow side. I am sure they help with forward speed but interior space could be improved with just a little wider width on both.
    Outside access:
    A forward hatchway to the foredeck might help provide access to the deck for docking. Maybe something on the forward starboard side, opposite the helm?
    Outside railing:
    A solid railing at a height above the windows would make side access a little more secure than the cables. Hand holds the length of the roof line would also be welcome.
    Power:
    I wonder if this builder is looking into hybrid options. Lots of room on that roof for solar.
    Final thoughts:
    On first view it looks amazing. I am not sure I would attempt crossing the pond on it. It would be an amazing coastal cruiser or canal cruiser on the wider canals of Europe.
    Love your videos. Keep'em coming, please.

    No autopilot mentioned on the helm station? I assume the raymarine unit next to the VHF is the autopilot? Peronally, as a merchant mariner, i dont like the setup that much, its a bit to stand uppery for my liking. Also, i never get why yachts need a steering wheel? a joystick, or nfu stick works much easier. For the rest, great looking boat, already started saving and dittching the idea of a nordhavn for this. So much more space. Reduce the engines to 110 hp, cruising speed of 8 to 10 knots, and go epxlore the world.

    • @archipelagoyachts
      @archipelagoyachts ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. Interestingly we have just been talking about ditching the steering wheel. We will, as default, have lever steering and autopilot. There will be a wheel but this won't be part of the helm station, and will form the backup steering system in event of pump failure. Thanks for your comments and interest in the boat.

      In very heavy seas, it is better for the water to splash up through the trampoline than to slam into something solid. That or not worry about drainage from large waves washing over the two bows.
      This boat seems to be geared for heavier seas than typical luxury cats intended for the Med or Carribean.

    I haven’t seen anything in this boat that is better than the Aquila 70

    • @archipelagoyachts
      @archipelagoyachts ปีที่แล้ว

      We're not necessarily trying to compete with an Aquila 70 - it's a very different concept and in a package of 47 feet, and not 70 feet.

      Alright, sooo, maybe, JUST MAYBE. This boat is NOT trying to compete with a boat 5 times its price... Not sure if you considered that...

    If only it were an eYacht. I'd pay around $2M for something like that.

    Would have been great if it was electric or even hybrid, big diesel engines cost a fortune to run

    It's much better to get a solid front deck

    Console du poste de pilotage trop haute et trop verticale. Pas de porte à l'entrée des cabines. Pas asser de sécurité à l'arrière de la plage arrière entre les flotteurs.( Juste un cable !). Sinon, il me plait bien.

    Nice boat, but the ergonomics of the helm station is ridiculous. It looks fine for standing, but the steering wheel placement is just stupid when you’re sitting.

    It seems "boxy" inside.

    What the hell is in the other hull? We only saw 1 hull right??? Did I miss an entire hull? Surely they didn’t mean to just show what’s in 1 hull.

      Hi Nigel - thanks for your comment. The helm was specifically designed as a more commercial helm position. It is a completely customisable design and a number of bespoke console designs are available. Thanks.

    I would be interesting in this Design with only fully electric powered + storaged in batteries E-motors, generated of inplemented photovoltaic cells in whole body... Time of using for burning Diesel / fuel are gone absolutely !!! Investments like these get made for next 15 years... but not in technology like an oldtimer level, not? Nothing heared about Transformation in to EV's of boats cars trucks bikes? Mama Mia, wake up guys! EV technology are ready to use it, now!

    Black trim looks cool. But, "cool", it ain't. In fact, it will burn you bad enough to cause injury in the Florida sun.

    Looks like semi-professional use, not for living on board. Not good ergonomics, not comfortable for relaxation. Maybe for north Europe and heavy weather is OK.
