i remember this game looking so crisp and graphically smooth. like the orbs in my memory were perfectly round and spherical. this game transports me back to that time.
I'm getting so much nostalgia from watching this video. All from the sounds, the music and the level design. Used to play Vectorman all the time as a kid, could never get past the tornado boss.
I remember looking at the amazing artwork on the game cartridge and buying it just for the artwork without much in game expectations. When I first booted up this game I was blown away by the intro screen and the music. Gameplay in itself was awesome but I used to just sit on the welcome screen jamming to the music like I’m Vectorman. The graphics, music and gameplay of this game was way ahead of both its time not just the standards of the Genesis era when it comes to 2d run and gun platformers. Once Contra made me a fan of Run and gun games, nothing really satisfied me except this game until the Metal Slug came to NeoGeo.
This is for Genesis? INSANE. Smoothness of animations, 3D-look, huge amounts of particles everywhere, moving backgrounds, and those flags! Holy moly. SNES doesn't even come close... Great soundtrack too! Reminds me of 90s club music.
This is funny, because Vectorman was ACTUALLY SEGA’s answer to Donkey Kong Country. And like DKC, Vectorman uses pre-rendered 3D graphics, but the cool part is that I feel Vectorman did it so much better… if not for the intrusive sound effects that overtake the music.
@@AlastorAltruistGaming One of the things that pisses me off about this game is that the sound effect volume is way higher than the music volume. The player's shots are especially too loud compared to the rest of the game.
I had this game as a child - I wasn't very good at platformers, and rarely got much past the Bamboo Mill. One day, I managed to get all the way to the end boss.... and promptly died with one life left. Never got to see the ending until now.
I remember when this game came out in 1995, it was one the last games for Sega that was good. The other game was Comic Zone. I remember playing this game as a kid and passing it.
I didn't even know that you could multiply the lives like that. I'm still learning more about this game. Yes, I know most of these were played as a kid, but still. Not related to this game, but I'm still finding new things in Ocarina Of Time videos and speed runners. I love those days as a kid, and I still have all my Sega games, too!
This most impressive thing to me in this game is the animation on those flags, which is kinda gorgeous. But why is that black border down the left side the screen sometimes?
The black border hides distortion on the side that occurs when the Genesis does Rotation FX. the distortion is visible in a game called STEEL EMPIRE on the Submarine boss
Absolutely not...this game plays in the crappy league with Comix Zone or BoB and all those awful action-plateformer from America : long, repetitive, with the worst level design at that time like a maze... US développers copied the Sonic games level design but it suied for SONIC not for others games. Vectorman had hundred of better games on the Genesis in front of him : Gunstar Heroes, El Viento, SoR 1/2, Castle/World of illusion, all Sonic, Flink, Lion King, Shinobi 3, Alisia Dragoon, Contra etc....
@@alberichsama7486 Ecco 1 and 2 are two good examples of good western adventure games on the Genesis. Also Ristar is one you didn't mention. Vectorman was legit, and graphicaly wyse one of the very best on the 16bit era.

That’s likely because, at the time, Donkey Kong Country was more popular & sold more units; Vectorman & Donkey Kong were fighting over who would gain popularity & a cult following, with Donkey Kong clearly being the victor. Vectorman attempted a shot at being on-par with Donkey Kong Country, as that’s where the former drew inspiration from, but in spite of a sequel, Vectorman never lived up to gaming standards or lived long-enough to see next-gen.
Many Genesis games were on par or better than Snes. It wasn't the games but the marketing what gave Nintendo the upper hand only at the end of the generation. This and Ecco among others like Ristar, Sonic 3D blast, Comix zone, Ranger X, Alien soldier, Gunstar Heroes, Contra: Hard corps, Virtua racing, Star Cruiser, Zero tolerance and many more proved what the Genesis was capable of. As a matter of fact i believe that games from both consoles could had runned in one another with some minor twitchs here and there.
I was a 90s kid who twisted elbows for my parents to get this game for my Genesis thanks to Sega's In Yo Face style marketing Watching this, while nostalgia, also notice how much intluence arcade games had on developers. Mainly how only strat for each type of baddie is keep shooting. Gets kind of repetitive. But good times, otherwise
One thing I like about this game a lot is that the creator matched the theme music perfectly with its respective levels. The creator nailed that spot on.
It's repetitive for sure. I think a large part of the fun came from how difficult the game was. You just wanted to keep playing and overcome a boss that was destroying you.
This game seemed very advanced at the time.
Yup

It really did.
I think we missed the hidden messages

This is one of my all-time favorite games. You didn't want to play the mini-game at the SEGA screen? Aww...
I'd say it's more of a tutorial than mini game.
This would be a really good concept for a movie or a updated version
The graphics blew me away as a kid. Was crazy for a game to look this good at the time.
This game shows the true power of the Genesis
nice vectorman longplay - (sega genesis ) 1995 hd !!!

great soundtrack on this game
