The best part about Paul Gilbert is that he's one of the greatest guitarists ever, but yet he looks like a random stranger who's sitting next to you on a bus, takes class!
Not only is PG an amazing guitarist, he’s also an extremely great harmonizing singer. Along with Nuno Bettancourt, those two really understand musicality.
This amazing video upload 14 years ago? Wow time fly so fast.. I'll remember meet Paul Gilbert in December 2019 during his tour to Indonesia. What a fantastic and nice man!
pg is amazing i always watch his hands to know how he plays this song, but he plays it many different ways, and all of them sound perfect i love this man. he's my hero
So true... The best example is Take Cover of Mr. Big, he plays whatever he wants and sounds nice everytime... I tried to learn some of his solos, but, he has a very particular way to play guitar, his "comfortable" way, it's not a real comfortable way to play his solos... It's just incredible, one of the biggest guitarist players ever! No doubt
I've come back to this video so many times since it was upload back in '06... I know this performance like the back of my hand. "So, let's see... one, two, just guitar, two three four..." :-) I love Paul Gilbert!
This rendition is much better than the acoustic version with Eric. I am a fan of Eric's voice but it suits the song better at this tempo and the vocalization is simplified and the harmonies are spaced well. Superb!
Es mi guitarrista favorito, me encanta todo lo que hace. Combina técnica, feeling, es simpático con el público... Da gusto verlo en directo. Es un grandísimo guitarrista.
In a guitar video he did he talks about it. When he started out he always practiced without a amplifier, so to hear anything he had to play really hard. He kept doing that and digging in his pick when buying an amplifier, which creates that sound. I don't know if there's more to it (I think so) but that was his own explanation. I hope I got your question right =)
probably the best way for you to get the details is to checkout their website. They're making a reunion tour this year starting in Japan. I believe it's June'09.
You're right; and the following answers (the Boss CS-3 compressor) is Exactly how you would get an acoustic guitar to sound like that (this is exactly how I ran my acoustic for live performances as well).
If you want to be blown away w/Paul and an acoustic guitar, check his disc Acoustic Samari. The dude's just flat amazing. I agree - no amp, no distortion - just the strings. Paul rules them like very, very few others.

I totally agree! One of my least favorite things is when a rockstar has to dress and act as gaudy as possible.
take me on
That's a humble guy!❤
Not only is PG an amazing guitarist, he’s also an extremely great harmonizing singer. Along with Nuno Bettancourt, those two really understand musicality.
Mike Szuter is a fabulous singer.
Where is he at now? I hear he was in Vegas. If anyone knows please let me know. I'd like to catch a show and see whoever he is playing with.

One of my absolute favorite "go back to's" on TH-cam.
Couldn’t agree more! 8 years and counting for me, such a good version of this song 👍🤘

@@patriciosarmiento7115 he makes it look effortless and just vibes away
i thought he was going to play the acoustic guitar the normal way, BUT NO: he activates god mode again, damn.
And he puts in a great second voice too! Nice harmony and dynamics control. A true musician.
hats off to these 2 for pulling off a stellar live performance of this song!
Amazing tapping sound. I can't believe he can make an acoustic sound like that.
great guitar, and great vocals for mike and paul for his accompanying vocals. Just plain amazing
This is such an AMAZING song! Great job Mike and Paul.
I'll never, NEVER forget the moment I heard the chorus for the first time in 1991! Treasured memories...
Excellent playing and beautiful harmonies.
Best acoustic version of my favoutite Mr Big song.

Mike Szuter. He usually plays the bass and backup vocals in their regular stuff.
great duo
@AraGuitar Finally somebody with a respectable mindset about two fantastic musicians.
This rendition is much better than the acoustic version with Eric. I am a fan of Eric's voice but it suits the song better at this tempo and the vocalization is simplified and the harmonies are spaced well. Superb!
Wow amazing performance... KUDOS Mike!! Not the easiest tune to pull off
