How to Dance the Virginia Reel

I wish I could this cleanly ... without all the noise and loud chatter in the background. Traditional dancing is a blast ... lots of fun.
There's usually lots of traditional dancing at summertime bluegrass and folk festivals such as: Merlefest, Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival, Falcon Ridge Folk Festival to name a few. It's always a great experience getting away and doing these things, camping and hanging out with friends and family, and picking music in jams.
... I do it contnuously...

I like it in jig-time. They're having a lot of fun,esp they're sweet when they scuthe off and come round and take hands to go under the arch... Giving and taking hte hand is a big deal, and htese guys do that very well.
If I remember right, the Shepherd's Heigh (sp?) is properly done to the "Irish Washerwoman" tune , and it (like this dance) also begins with lines approaching and receding, step together step bow -- so maybe that's where they got hte idea of usingthis tune

We did it when I was in hte fourth grade. Our little social set -- thats what htey called it -- met at miss Phoebe's house, where they'd rtaken out hte dining room table and rolled up the rug and danced there in the dining room. i THINK we dancedti to Turkey in the Straw," but this tune of course does sound familiar -- but then, it's almost the campbell's soup song.
They do it well-- none of them knows how far you have to go to meet your new partner before you can start turn, but that's hard

It's called the Irish Washerwoman. I had to track down a fiddler friend of mine ot find out the name. We're going to dance to it at our wedding. My fiance went to UVA where they do this!
