Hi Branden...on the why's behind No Rivian SC in NC. If memory serves me, Tesla got a somewhat narrow bill through the NC legislature in 2018 allowing them to build stores & service here in NC. In reaction to this, in 2019 the Auto Dealers lobbied and got a new law that now requires something to the effect that says Rivian or any new auto company must have dealers to service. So, Rivian can sell you a vehicle, but unfortunately, it won't be able to service it here. Rivian is working hard in 2023 to change the law along with other EV companies. If you want to help, you can start by calling your NC State Senator and NC House Representative. These individuals really need to hear from Voters in NC. The Auto Dealers are lobbying hard so please reach out. Thank you!
The closest service center from where I live in the Catskill Park upstate New York, is in Brooklyn, 127 miles away. I too had a punch list in the beginning of little things that I needed Rivian to check. They sent a mobile tech to my home and he was able to solve all the issues except for one which was a rattle under the vehicle. He spent 30 minutes under the vehicle checking fasteners and determined that the noise was from the suspension, which would have to be done in Brooklyn. They would also rotated my tires no charge while it was there. Rivian sent a flat bed to pickup my truck, did what they needed to do and returned it again 4 or 5 days later. They also arranged for a rental for me to drive while my truck was in their shop. Fast forward to this past week. For the last 4000 miles or so, I was experiencing a howling sound which came from my 20” Scorpion tires. They are cupped due to either bad alignment or balancing issues, so the truck needed to go in for them to check it out. Rivian since my last appointment has understandably changed their flat bed pickup and delivery policy so I needed to deliver the truck myself, the 130 miles to Brooklyn for them to check it out. Like you, Brandon, I figured I should have them checkout other small issues while it was there. Also I needed to have some body work done as I had a small fender bender, and needed to bring it to a Rivian approved body shop which was also in Queens NY, near the service center. Rivian was great and arranged to drop off my truck to the body shop after they finished with my concerns. Michael, at Rivian service was great and made sure I didn’t need to return to Brooklyn until everything was completed, saving me going back and forth between appointments. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Rivian service so far. They seem to bend over backwards for me, and I don’t even have a TH-cam channel!!
I live 4 hours from a service center. Rivian flat bedded my truck there and back, and provided a rental for the two weeks it was there. The control module for the screens went bad. I did drive the truck for two weeks waiting for a mobile service tech to make it out. The first thought was the center screen failure, but it needed the module replaced. This occurred prior to having 1000 miles on the R1T. Overall I could not be more pleased with the truck and the service experience so far.
We have a Tesla model Y, and live in rural, southwestern New Hampshire. There are no service centers in New Hampshire, Vermont or Maine. The ones in Massachusetts are 3 or 4 hours away. The one in Latham, NY (near Albany) is 3 hours away. On the occasions when Tesla has sent a mobile tech out, the guy drives here in a Model S from Connecticut, and has to charge just after crossing into Vermont in order to get here, then has to charge there again to get back. At some point our Tesla will wind up needing something from a service center. That may well be the point at which we sell it. Tesla service in our part of the country has been substandard. For anyone buying a Tesla who lives in Vermont, New Hampshire or Maine, the pickup point is Paramus, New Jersey! Massachusetts does not have transit plates, so you can’t pick up there, and Latham, NY is only service, not new vehicle delivery.
Tesla got grandfathered in because they were the first new car manufacturer. This is not Rivian’s fault and they are not selling in the Carolinas for this reason, so you are lucky to have one,
@@Scott-sm9nm it was announced late last year when the first delivery updates came out that SC and NC preorder holders had no definite date so vehicles are not being delivered because people are five hours from Atlanta or Richmond.
@@GA-wq8xq I guess I was confused because you said 'not selling' but you meant 'not being delivered' in person. I very recently saw a video with a new R1S in the Asheville area but they picked it up themselves. I wonder if they actually cannot deliver them to SC/NC or if they just need to coordinate multiple deliveries to make it work it (ie. semi with several on the trailer). Personally, I'd really dislike the service options unless they were mobile based on all this. Tesla is in-progress of building a service center in Asheville. "TESLA Dealership | 291 Sweeten Creek Rd. Asheville NC -- The 40,148-sqft dealership has been proposed for the former site of the Asheville Ballroom and Dance Centre and would include a 130-car display area, as well as charging stations. The request will go before the city’s Technical Review Committee today, Jan. 9."
Responses from the service centre sound like the standard response from U.K. Land Rover service outlets - “Sir they are all like that!”, the fact that there is something not right that might need a factory look into doesn’t cross their mind.
I did not realize you had a separate full-time job as you are always on the road making videos. What do you do full-time that gives you the opportunity and flexibility to make all these road trip videos?
So you drove through a baby puddle but felt the need to check the underside? I've driven through all sorts of stuff from my truck to my little Honda and never felt the need to look underneath. 🤔
I know, if my 2023 Tacoma had that problem I would really be shocked. I live in Hawaii and ride it through river beds in Waipio Valley every 2 weeks. Scary.
Is Rivian still delivering new vehicles in NC/SC? I’ve heard people who are further away from service centers are no longer being able to get their vehicles unless they change their delivery address. I saw someone in New Mexico having that issue and their trip to the SC would be the same as yours.
They knew your social media presence, that is not a reason for service. You should not be treated differently just because you have a few subscribers on YT. Don’t be like Kyle.
Branden doesn't lead with his social media presence, but when needed he'll pull that out of his back pocket, just like anyone would if they could. He's worked hard to build his social presence so when he needs to use it, he does & should. He and everybody agrees that he shouldn't need to do it but that's not always how the world works, unfortunately... but he'll be the first to call that out himself to his social media outlets when it happens. Lastly, Branden has high integrity and is not a sellout... he's a strong advocate for all of us in so many ways, largely because he's obviously genuinely enthusiastic about EVs, so it comes naturally.
Could you do a range test video with weight in the bed of the truck, like 500-1000lbs? Curious how much just weight effects range without drag like a trailer.
The thumb rule is a 50% loss of range when towing, but every actual towing test I've seen was far worse. Motor Trend tested a $93,000 Ford F150 Lightning Platinum with the largest available battery, which has an EPA range of 300 miles without any trailer. When towing the lightest trailer of 3,140 lbs, the tested range was 115 miles (38.3% of EPA range). For a medium weight trailer of 5,260 lbs, range was 100 miles or 33.3% of EPA range. For a relatively heavy trailer of 7,218 lbs, range was 90 miles or 30% of EPA range.
It's funny how they stumble over themselves trying to tell you this vehicle is not junk, meanwhile Ford has jumped ship. Long as this dude gets his checks he's gonna continue to dupe you!
Wtf, i am about 5 hours from a service center and Rivian won’t give me an est delivery date for my apr 2021 order because I am too far from a service center
Hey man, are you still happy with your r1T? I have the max pack enhanced dual motor reservation. Is the bed size any issue for you to the size of the cab comfortable compared to larger truck cabs?
Click bait. How do you know your car was damaged "by a puddle"? This may have been caused by inappropriate use before the incident or something else, like a piece of wood in the puddle or wrong istallation or a faulty part. What fell off was not a vital part for the vehicle's function but simply an aeropanel. In any case you bought a vehicle from a new manufacturer despite the next workshop being 5 hours away, these things are to be expected and were (some still are) quite common with teslas.
I knew from the start that EVs were about as convenient as a 25 year old lame donkey, but over the past 6 months I've followed several channels like this one and it blows my mind how much of a nightmare having to depend on one actually is. If EVs were 1/10th price of an ICE vehicle, they would still be an absolute travesty - but of course depriving Americans of the freedom, independence and convenience of personal cars is a key goal of our malignant narcissist Ruling Class. Worse, our electric grid absolutely cannot handle 100 million EVs of added load, and the same ecoterrorists that think an EV is greener than an ICE car will fight to the death to prevent any new reliable power generation.

It would have been smart for Rivian to use Tesla's charger plug.
Definitely making me want to wait on our Rivian preorder for a year or two while they figure this stuff out.
