      Silent Warrior dont know if youre american or other, but in britain we have pikeys and that is who he was playing. Its sort of irish crossed with nonsense! And he did it quite well really. I guess the people at watchmojo could be forgiven for not knowing what he should have sounded like, they probably thought he was just doing a bad irish accent!

      Brad Pitt was waay worse: "corre*c*to". Btw, I'm Italian and he didn't sound too off in this clip (I didn't see the movie though).
      Oh, and why do say that he's Italian? He was born and raised in the USA, just because your granpa is Italian doesn't make you one, ask Scorsese. (it works the other way around too: if a person with American parents was born and raised in Italy I wouldn't say that he's American).

    • @lukejones7164
      @lukejones7164 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@urracojalpa4481 Cage is ethnically Italian, so yes that makes him Italian. There are many 2nd and 3rd generation Italian Amercians who could pull off an Italian accent way better than Cage can, so that makes Cage's performance look even worse lol.
      And why bring up Scorsese? He himself identifies as an Italian American. And "American" is not an ethnic group, so of course a person born to "American" parents in another country wouldn't be American.

      Schwarzer Ritter I's say at a push he's spoke "Smooth Scottish" for Bond. There's not one role he's managed an accent of any kind. But then he never tried! Ford however did try a Russian accent and failed miserably. Note: Lambert did try (ironically) a Scottish accent for Highlander opposite Connery (him supposedly Spanish) and was awful.

Even though it['s not that great, it works because her character was living in the 1910s or 1920s, where word articulation was a bit more pronounced and quick in America then than it is now, and she kind of already does with her natural English accent.

    Agree with the number 1 even though a lot of other awful jobs were omitted but it was a reasonable list.

  • @AnyoneCanSee
    @AnyoneCanSee 10 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I've always thought Keanu's English accent was the worst accent ever. In British cinemas everyone was laughing out loud the entire time he was on. Russell Crowe in robin Hood should have made the list as his accent is a disaster. As for Kevin Costner in the UK everyone assumed he just decided to do it in an American accent. I would not put him on the list as I had no idea he was trying so an English accent at any point. Sean Connery doesn't care he just does the same accent regardless, it was absurd he won an Oscar for playing an Irish man in a Scots accent.

      Kathyuk28 I agree that, as a simulation of an English accent, it was pretty bad. But are realism & accuracy really that important in a Dracula movie?
      For me, 1992's _Dracula_ works as a movie because it embraces equally its triumphs, its cliches and its outright badness with arms clad in silky red lingerie and the warm gaze of a lover drunk with a rich red wine. The bad parts are so lusciously bad that they become good-Keanu's accent included.
      That's my take anyway. You're free to have a different one: it's just a self-indulgent horror movie. :-)

    Subtle difference, everyone says canadians say "aboot" but to my ears it sounds more like "aboat" or possibly a hybrid between the two. Maybe this is why the Canadians always object to this portrayal. Often the subtlety in understanding a true accent is lost. Canadians also don't say "baig" instead of "bag"...it's more like "bayeg" but shorter, as if one syllable.

    • @TripleFermentation
      @TripleFermentation 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      There are many different Canadian dialects, not just one.
      East (i.e. Newfoundland), Central/West (i.e. Saskatchewan, Alberta), Ontario, Quebec... they're all very different.
      I say 'bag' like I assume you do.
      People from Toronto, like myself, would not even be known as Canadian to Americans, save for very small differences that we could avoid (like 'eh'). Yes, I say 'eh' often.
      When it comes to 'about', there is a very slight difference, but it's definitely not said as 'aboot' from anybody I've ever spoken to.
      The best I can describe the difference is:
      A-bowt and A-bout (Canadian).

    • @gayoreuropean2332
      @gayoreuropean2332 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TripleFermentation I'm Canadian and have studied the differences between American and Canadian dialects. Most Canadians say "ab-out" and Americans say "ab-ow-t". In the Maritimes, however, they actually do say "aboot", although not as strongly as Americans seem to think. A bigger difference is that we say "s-oh-rry" and Americans say "s-aw-rry", and we say "nyewz" while Americans say "nooz". Most people that I know (myself included) actually do say "baig", though. :)
      If you're interested, a really good documentary is called "Talking Canadian" which should be on CBC's website.

    At the time when Robin Hood supposedly existed back in the 13th century, Middle English was spoken in England wouldn't have sounded like it does today anyway and was closer to Anglo-Saxon, so Costner's bad British accent didn't matter. For that matter, even Elizabethan English of Shapekpeare's time, which is almost modern English and spoken a few centuries later, probably sounded much closer to American English than what we think of as the "correct" British accent (as if there was one British accent anyway!)

    Tarantino's Aussie accent in "Django Unchained" is highly suspect as well.

      Maddolis The irony is Hollywood is loaded with Aussies and Kiwis who flawlessly play American characters (like The Walking Dead, etc.). Am frequently surprised to hear in interviews these heavy accents suddenly emerge from so many actors.

    Brad Pitt's accent in Snatch is intentionally gypsy, and it's actually quite good, considering Irish gypsies all have different variations on the Irish accent, none of which anyone who isn't a gypsy can ever understand.

      His accent in The Devil's Own was a Northern Irish accent, which most people are unfamiliar with. I think he got it spot on! It's only crap if you're expecting him to sound like he's from Dublin (and not Belfast). Gypsy accent was excellent too!

    As much as Kevin Costner's British accent was pretty laughable, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was and still is a classic action movie with a lot of humor, heart and some pretty clever bow and arrow work. Great cast, you gotta love it!

    HOW CAN YOU FORGET MERYL STREEP!? Her Australian accent in that movie about Lindy Chamberlain is so horrendous, it's an international joke.
    The funny thing is, whenever American actors try to do an Australian accent, they end up doing an almost perfect kiwi accent. Whenever they try to do a kiwi accent, a kitten dies.

    I must admit, as a Southerner, it is VERY hard for those outside the South to pick up the nuances of our accent. The best at it are Brits, because much of our accent comes from their language and we've just softened it a bit
