margot robbie
Damson idris
Gillian Anderson.
Elle Fanning! Perfect British dialect for multiple productions (The Great) as well as speaking Polish in Teen Spirit. She is extremely talented in accents she is hired (as all actors in this list) to do at an extremely young age.
I was surprised to learn that Margot Robbie was Australian, her American accent is impeccably flawless. Same goes for Florence Pugh, who is English.
I know, right? It's hard to think about Margot Robbie. The only time she's ever played an Australian character was when she was first starting out on Australian television.
She's the shit as Harley Quinn, but that's just her one trick. Same american accent in all movies
An honorable mention has to be given to Charlie Cox.
His American accent as Matt Murdock sounded so authentic that it surprised a lot of people to learn that he’s British.
You suprised me
Tom Hiddleston is British but has shown he can do any accent. He even did a GQ video showing them off. He portrayed Hank Williams like he was Hank.
Alexander Skarsgard should be on the list too. He’s Swedish and has done very convincing accents. In the HBO series Generation Kill his character was from Mississippi and it was SPOT ON. It wasn’t like the fake accent Anna Paquin and her husband used in true blood. Very few people in the cast had believable accents and the ones that did were from Europe and Australia.
How is Daniel Day-Lewis not on this list? He re-created a New York accent from the 1850s, a oil prospector from the 1910s, an Irish accent in In the Name of the Father, a colonial accent from the Crucible, he damn near re-created Abraham Lincoln’s voice in Lincoln, all while actually having a high British accent-the man is a historical accent textbook
This is what I came here to say... when I clicked the link, my first thought was "If Daniel Day-Lewis isn't #1, something's wrong"... but to omit him entirely?
Daniel Day-Lewis's father Cecil Day Lewis was Irish born in Ballintubbert, Athy/ Stradbally border, Queen'sCounty now known as County Laois,Ireland. The son of Frank Day-Lewis a Church of Ireland rector of that parish+Kathleen Blake (née Squires; died 1906).He heard the accent all his life, +visiting his paternal family.
I was going to comment that as well.
@@veronicaaccouche1478 knowing an Irish accent doesn’t mean there are 19 other actors better at accents than he is lmao most of the other actors on this list only know how to do a decent current American accent
@@paulmgrunert I didn't mean that. For years I thought he was he was Irish. I'm from London and heard he won an Oscar for my left foot. I'm in my late 30's.
David Tennant should be on here. He's Scottish but has portrayed the Tenth (and now Fourteenth) Doctor in Doctor Who with a full British accent, an American investigator in Gracepoint and used his own Scottish brogue in Broadchurch. I did not know he was Scottish until I heard him in an interview while he was still in his first run as The Doctor.
He has done a variety of british accent and his last one was russian
Same I saw an interview and was surprised :)
Tennant is best when he does other British accents and remains distanced from American portrayals such as in Gracepoint.
James Marsters from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel (as well as Smallville, The Runaways, and more) not only did a British accent that fooled many Brits, he did it with fangs. And he had to learn it fast, as the original concept of the character was southern US. He has also done outstanding audiobook and videogame voice work.
Meryl Streep is basically an accent chameleon at this stage. There's no accent that she CAN'T perfect! 👌
Great as thatcher
She should try a new challenging accent. A Louisiana block boy.
She's awesome; that said, sometimes her accent wasn't the best, like her Aussie accent in A Cry In The Dark, or her accent in Out Of Africa
My favorite was her Italian accent in *The Bridges of Madison County.* She sounded just like my Nonna. 🤗
@@dr.braxygilkeycruises1460 My sister thought she was really Italian-American.
Toni Collette is an Australian actress, with the best American accent ❤
How is Daniel Kaluuya not on this list??? His accents are remarkable.
Also, Kate Winslet? Several different American accents (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Mare of Easttown), Polish in Steve Jobs, German in her Oscar winning role of The Reader.
And her Australian accent in The Dressmaker was spot on (to use an Aussie colloquialism). And in her first film Heavenly Creatures, she did a great Kiwi accent. A very talented lady.
@brettcoster4781 Yes! I had forgotten about The Dressmaker. I actually have not seen Heavenly Creatures, but I have no doubt that she nailed the accent, even at a young age. She's brilliant.
Hugh Laurie isn't actually American? My whole life has been a lie.
He was prolific in British television for a long time before House. He's also done some writing, I absolutely adore The Gun Seller
How you think i felt when i learned that Idris Elba was a black brit
How does anyone not know Hugh Laurie is British?
@@musiclove4635I didn’t. And I watched house from start to finish
@@Keithbellic did you miss the part in season 6 where he sings about being an Englishman while he's taking a piss. That might have been subtle hint.
First thing I saw Hugh Laurie on was Blackadder so I was surprised when i saw House. Sometimes i don't know about folks until i see them on a talk show. He switches back and forth pretty good.
I'm genuinely suprised Gillian Anderson didn't make the list considering how long she portrayed Dana Scully in an American accent and the breadth of her British dialect work.
Great point! Of course, both accents could be said to be her native ones seeing as she spent half of her childhood in England and the other half in America.
She's a dual citizen. So she actually is an American.
Alexis Denisof from Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He played Wesley. His British accent was so believable that even when I saw him being interviewed, for the DVD, and he was speaking w/an American accent, I didn’t accept it. I didn’t believe it until I read that he is from Maryland.
Gary’s family member T
How did Cate Blanchett not make the list?
All of her accents are real lol
Yeah another Australian actress that gets forgotten a lot in these lists!
Uhhh Kate Winslet?! There's a video of her somewhere using American, Australian and Kiwi accents in between her own English one to tell a story about Harvey Keitel and she switches between them all flawlessly.
Love your lists!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
James Marsters (Spike on Buffy and Angel) should at least be an honorable mention. He’s an American that does an excellent English accent.
Hey don’t forget Aaron Taylor Johnson (from Kick Ass Godzilla and Avengers age of Ultron) And Alice Eve (from Star Trek Into Darknesse)!
Great job!
I always crack up at Daniel Craig's southern accent
Good list. I think Tom Hardy has to be an honourable mention. He's done great Welsh, American, Russian accents
Julian McMahon from the series FBI and Nip/Tuck and 2 Fantastic Four films as Doctor Von Doom has put on an American accent since the early 2000s but he's born in Australia
Matthew Rhys from The Americans and Perry Mason should be on the list. The first time I heard his natural Welsh accent, I thought he was doing a bit.
Totally agree. The first time I heard him being interviewed it damn near broke my brain.
Jodie Comer needs to be seriously higher on this list. It might come across as biased as I’m from the UK and love scousers ( British slang for describing anyone from Liverpool) but I stand by this!
Watching these actors with their flawless fake accents is like witnessing a linguistic tightrope act. They balance on the thin line between authenticity and caricature, and somehow manage to pull it off with grace. I'm in awe of their linguistic prowess!
Christian Bale also voiced our lovely wizard Howl Pendragon 😚
I was floored when I first heard Gillian Anderson's British accent. Years watching the X-Files, not a clue
Titiana Maslani should have won an Emmy every year that Orphan Black was telecast. She created 5 major and several more minor characters, all distinct.
Tatiana Maslany could have made Emmy history by winning both Best Actress in Lead and Best Actress in A Supporting role, since she’d done both for the show.
@@heubertkhanmichael5239 I hadn't thought of that but you are right!
Tom Holland and James McAvoy 🥰😍
I would add Lucy Lawless to this list. Her American accent is superb.
These are some of the most talented actors, indeed.
Judi dench is British but she can do a really good (and accurate) Irish accent. She played the Philomena in the movie with the same name and I think it’s one of those rare occasions where you here a realistic and a non offensive attempt at an Irish accent in an international film. I’m Irish btw
Pretty good accents 😁Excellent impressions 😁 I didn't know about Christian :) My friend from college can also impressionate accents, bosnian, montenegrin, irish, english. He's fantastic :) Hugh is perfect as House. Great list😁
Wow, you seriously left Sir Ben Kingsley and Daniel Day Lewis off this list? That's nuts.
I am always surprised by how deep Rosemond's voice is, from such a delicate-looking woman. Love it of course, just surprises me every time.
5:02 - 5:50 I've been a huge fan of Tom ever since he became so popular, not only because of his accent always changing like playing role as Spider-Man or how youthful his face looks even though he's in his mid-20s, but also how hard he works, romance with Zendaya like Peter and MJ, his relationship with siblings namely: Sam, Harry and Paddy, and lastly is his talent of ballet dancing 🎉 ! Now he's on hiatus following his role as an actor and executive producer on The Crowded Room, I'm very proud for him 🥲
Thank you for the update, WatchMojo..!! What about American actors with a Jamaican accent in Cool Runnings (1993)? 🤣
Kidney touching video 😂
Meryl Streep’s accent work with Lindy Chamberlain is excellent. Both the Australian and New Zealand accents are very difficult for non natives. Merry Streep managed to copy a rather unique accent as Lindy’s accent is a hybrid of both.
Thank For the Video 🙊🤯🥰😍😁💗💐🌟🥇🏆
House:"YOU CAN'T STOP OUR LOVE!"😂 wasn't expecting Hugh Laurie to be on this list but I laughed when he came out on top.
Naomi Watts should be on this list.
American: in Mulholland Drive, The Ring
Russian: Eastern Promises and St. Vincent
for starters
Yeah, I remember seeing her first in The Ring, and years later finding out she was Australian, but she like Anna Torv tend to be forgotten by these lists, even though they are both excellent actresses, also less often, Cate Blanchett, another Aussie actress, who isn't as forgotten as the other two, but was apparently forgotten here though! I think you have be someone who spends a lot of time hanging out at Hollywood parties and all to get a lot of attention from these lists and award shows too for Anna, especially!
I was hoping for once Anna Torv would get a mention in a video like this, but I can't say I am surprised either, since she is usually left out of everything, even when she would have fit better then many others, like at least one in this she would have fit better then, the guy from Riverdale, at least she is a good actress, that has been in more then one successful show even, also in the US, also better shows! Fringe, Mindhunter and recently The Last Of Us, she plays American in all 3, and a lot of people, even those who had seen her long ago in Fringe, didn't know she was Australian!
Ryan Kwanten should be on this list. I remember the first time I heard his accent on True Blood, I'm from the South and I was convinced he was as well, so fast forward a few weeks later and I watched an interview of his and heard his Aussie accent and was BAFFLED.
Jodie I must admit she has skills doing accent
Along with the rest of the actors that nailed certain accent
I'd like to also add:
-Ewan McGregor (His British accent was so believable that I never knew he was Scottish, his American and French accents are actually well done too!)
-David Tennant (Exact same feelings as Ewan)
-Daniel Day Lewis (Does he REQUIRE explanation?)
-Paul Blackthorne (I NEVER would have guessed he was British after hearing him on Arrow.)
I mean, British covers Scotland. British IS Scottish lmao
This is why Americans need to stop saying "British accent" and say what they actually mean; ENGLISH accent.
FYI that town in Australia is pronounced with more of like dol-by then del-by
Source - I live 2 hours north of Dalby
Yeah, I knew that myself, and I've never even been to Australia, much less lived there, but I have heard Aussies say the name! lol! It's a bit cringey when people say a word or name from another country like they know how it's pronounced, but they don't, lol!
Surprised I didn’t see Charlie Hunnam, Russell Crowe or Colin Farrell
WOW Ok, Liam Neeson, who has pulled off a yank accent on several occasions, considering he's from the North, like myself is a pretty good stunt. Colin Farrell, a Castleknock lad who has flawlessly portrayed an American in many a film
The guy who played Niles on The Nanny. People thought his British accent was so real they were saying the guy who played Mr. Fines should take lessons from him. The guy who played Mr. Fines was legit British, while the guy who played Niles was American.
I knew Hugh Laurie before he was Dr. House. 101 Dalmatians in 1996 with Glenn Close as Cruella, he played Jasper.
Gary old man played Sid vicious perfectly in Sid & Nancy.
Florence Pugh, Nicole Kidman and Daniel Kaluuya are astonishing omissions, other of note, Kate Winslet, Minnie Driver, Michael Sheehan, Millie Bobby Brown, Daniel Day lewis, Henry Cavill , Damian Lewis, Kate Blanchet and Chiwetel Ejiofor
*How do you not have Daniel Kaluuya on this list?!!!!!* I first saw him in the second *Johnny English* movie, so I knew he was British and had a strong accent. But then seeing him in Jordan Peele's *Get Out* and *NOPE* blew my mind.
I LOVE THE MOVIES SPLIT AND GLASS SO HECKIN MUCH
I dare you to do a list of the top 20 most underrated actors
How could you not have Cate Blanchett or Daniel Day Lewis?
So are we going to ignore that Robert Downey Jr. has successfully played so different accents as Tony Stark, Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chaplin, Lincoln Osiris, etc.?
HUGH JACKMAN and CHRISTIAN BALE are my favourites!
Would've been absolutely pissed if they didn't name Tatiana Maslany on this list
What about Daniel Craig, he put on a near flawless American Acent in Angelina Jolie's first outing as Lara Croft and the his southern on for Knives Out and its "sequel".
When I saw Forrest Gump for the first time I thought Tom Hanks actually talked like that.
I also was pretty sure Bob Hoskins was from New York or somewhere else in the American Northeast, he sure sounded like it in Super Mario Bros.
And even today I facetiously refer to Cary Elwes as "The Oklahoma Boy" ever since I saw him in Twister.
A more obscure example, I thought Bernadette Peter's really talked like that when I saw her in the late 1990s TV movie Holiday In Your Heart, starring a then-teenage LeAnn Rimes.
You also forgot
Lennie James,,Morgan on the walking dead and fear the walking dead
David Morrissev, the governor,,The walking dead
Oh yeah, I actually think he does it better then Andrew Lincoln myself, Lennie that is, to me Lincolns isn't so great, even though he doesn't slip, it's just sounds a bit over done sometimes! Lauren Cohan who plays Maggie Greene, also does a great southern accent in TWD, she was born in the US but was raised in the UK!
Anthony La Paglia has always fooled everyone into thinking he is an American, but he is actually very Australian! Marvellous actor, convincing in every part.
Because I love him in everything, has to be Jason Isaacs. I was so surprised to find that’s he’s actually from Liverpool, which can be argued as the most distinctive of English accents (though he did learn to mask it moving to London as a kid).
What? Where's Damian Lewis? He WAS Dick Winters in 'Band of Brothers'!
6:49 - Russian in "Air Force One," Chinese in "Kung Fu Panda 2"
Personal Honorable Mention: Jason Isaacs, famous for "Lucius Malfoy" from "Harry Potter," and playing the brutal Col. Tavington from "The Patrio," he once did a Southern accent for his Captain role in "Black Hawk Down"
Damson Idris has the best accent ever playing Franklin ❤
Gary Oldman also played Sirus Black in the Harry Potter movies.
Margot Robbie is Harley Quinn even when she's not😍
Bella Ramseys accent in Last of Us was outstanding
I have a very convincing Canadian fax it. It mostly consists of words like process, about, adult, schedule, and sorry. I am fluent.
Before I needed a translator, but not anymore. Thanks to Rosetta Stone.
I am not surprised that Jodie Comer is on the list due to the fact that she is a Liverpudlian. Even Brits don't care to hear that accent, based on my time visiting relatives in the area many times. So she probably has had a lot of practice doing other accents.
No Daniel Day Lewis feels criminal
Daniel Day-Lewis
Gary Oldman deserved a higher spot on the list and both Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender deserved spots for sure. Fassbender doing a posh English accent and the Midwestern/California accent in Alien: Covenant was so unforgettable!!!
I'm surprised Damian Lewis (Bobby Axelrod, Billions) wasn't in the list.
You cannot have a list of actors rocking fake accents without listing Texas born and raised actor John Hillerman's run as the original Higgins on Magnum P.I..
So, that "I poke from Hondo, Texas" was just the actor going back home? Agreed, he was fabulous as Higgins.
Kevin Costner in Robinhood: Prince of Thieves 😂
James masters from Buffy the vampire slayer
Amy Ryan in Gone Girl. Jeremy Renner in The Town. The Boston accent is like no other and nobody nailed that shit like they did. and yeah. I'm from Boston
Amy Ryan? Do you mean rosamund pike playing Amy dune? I agree she is awesome.
There are a lot of tv stars that have accents that you would have no clue about. Oliver Stark(buck on 911), naveen Andrews(sayid on lost), and Freddy highmore(Shaun on the good doctor) all have English accents that are NOT apparent…Maia mitchell(Callie in the fosters) and Jesse Spencer(Casey on Chicago fire)are both Australian and nope, you wouldn’t have a clue. The funny part is that Spencer actually played on house, and he let his Australian accent roam free on that one. But on Chicago fire, he has a typical northern American accent. As far as movie stars, Robert Pattinson is English, and so was Vivian Lee. She actually had to take voice lessons to learn how to talk like a southern belle before she audition for the role of Scarlett O’Hara. I had a teacher in high school that was from England but didn’t talk with an accent. She did it one time just for shock value and we students looked at her like huh??? 😂😂
Meryl Streep should be number one.
What about Daniel-Day Lewis? Winning three Oscars for playing an Irish artist, an American prospector and an American president all while changing his accents to that of those characters as well as all the other characters he has played. Surely he deserves recognition on this list.
Damson Idris‼️
Joel Edgerton ❤
Agree, but not forgiving Sean Connery is not on the list, his accent in The Untouchables was literally worth an Oscar
Melanie Lynskey!!!
CARL!!
I thought Meryl Streep and Gary Oldman would be at the top. They’re in the bottom half.
I noticed that Daniel Day Lewis isn’t even on the list.
Bill the Butcher and Lincoln.
The really interesting thing about this video is the top picks go to non-American actors doing American accents, rather than Americans doing other accents which I think is way more impressive. Because there are so many American films and TV shows non- Americans hear it all the time, and our ears become attuned to the different accents from childhood. So it is not that difficult to copy. However actors doing less well known accents is much more difficult.
How’s #20 , #20??? Smh. He’s a beast!!
I understand that when Patrick McGoohan played an American on TV they wrote it so that his lines were short so he wouldn’t tend to slip back into his natural accent.
Kate Winslet and Kate Beckingsale are serious omissions.
I dig good American accents by British people, they tend to go low and husky
Why do i feel Barbie will get a 3% Rotten Tomatoes score...
And something like 80 percent Audience score😂
How come people pay attention to critics. Watch the movie or show for yourselves.
Also a lot of the actors playing in Band of Brothers were actually British.
Damson Idris should've at least gotten a mention. I had no idea he was British until recently
What about Benedict Cumberbatch or Tom Hiddleston?
