Rebuilding a cheap Cat S Maserati Granturismo - Replacing Engine & Gearbox mounts - Part 8

- Hi everyone, so here I am changing the engine mounts and gearbox mounts. She was vibrating a bit and the bottom of the mounts were bulging, so it was time to unbolt the subframe and change these.
Not hugely entertaining, but if you need to do this job, then hopefully this video will be helpful.
Key lessons:
Gearbox mount is quite easy - good to do it at same time as mechatronics seals if you are doing that job at some point (100,000 miles?) as you need to get the mount out to undo the mechatronics plug
Gearbox mount lasts a lot longer than engine mounts.
Engine mounts can be done on jacks, but not fun - if you get a ramp, so much better and safer.
Just replace those silly pipe cover plates that go rusty, but paint them first with epoxy. They are £16 or so each, don't bother cleaning them! - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
Thanks for taking the time to show this. I've been putting this job off for my Quattroporte for a while now, hopefully it's very similar.
Thanks. It is not too bad a job, but if you can get on a ramp, that would make it much easier. Having said that, much of my slowness and grumpiness came from battling the weather and all the other jobs I had to do.
I keep watching so that I don't miss the episode where you totally lose it and attack the wretched thing with an axe. Yup.... I want to be here for that. Cheers and all the best
Now, when after all the work, it suddenly threw another dashboard warning light out of the blue, I did almost have a Basil Fawlty moment like this: th-cam.com/video/_n77eoOfRPE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos, none out there really. All these jobs I will tackle on my own now. Just waiting on weather..lol.
This weather is really annoying me, it rained on me constantly whilst trying to paint the boat, then I get back here and it’s raining here too.
Just found your channel, will have a watch of your other Maserati video's. I'm just about to tackle rust proofing my front subframe on mine, hope it's not too bad !! Nice to see other prople working on their Massers. Subbed.
Thanks very much. I was tempted to remove the subframe and get it shot blasted, but it is okay at the moment. I have a compressed air driven wax oil injection gun from machine mart with a long probe that I will use in summer. I may use acf50 too. The problem with acf50 though is that it will be hard to paint afterwards, so I will need to decide if I will paint it or just wax it. Good luck with the subframe!
1st comment 😊
I look forward to your videos, big Maserati fan 👍
I drilled a hole in the centre of my plates to allow the water to drain out, after I cleaned and painted them, no rust yet 👍
Thanks very much. That is a good point about drilling the hole, if it ever stops raining, I will go do that.
Hi all, had to mess with volume again, so hopefully this sounds okay...
On the 2014 Granturismo, trans mount, disconnect the gearbox wiring harness (top portion of the connector lifts/rotates up then the harness connection will pull apart) because there are no nuts on the bottom of the bracket. The long bolts thread into the bracket itself and it's just easier to disconnect the wiring harness. 👌🏾
Yes, I should have mentioned that later cars had a different way of bolting in the mount to the bracket. I also did mean to add a bit about undoing that plug as when I did the transmission, I had to take the gearbox mount off again to get to the mechatronics sleeve and then realised how easy it was to disconnect that harness.
Very good...still, great content, thanks.

😆
Great vid, lots of info. 15:53 looks like your eng. oil level sensor is or was leaking at one point.
Yes I am trying to track it down, a lot of mess, but no clear current cause. I am going to clean it all off and then take her for a drive, but she does not drop any oil on the drive, so I think it comes out when running.
Mine was the same, it would coat half the oil pan but never drip onto the driveway.@@SailingSVPipedream
Hello there! Very good work! I got a Quattrroporte 4.7 and I think its time to change the mounts, too. What where you're symptoms on the car? I got vibrations at particular rpms. Greetings from Germany :)
Hi Germany! I was in Bremen last month. I had a lot of vibration at idle and low revs. It has improved a lot and now I just have vibration at 100-110 kph. I suspect that is either tracking as in wheel alignment or wheel balance.
Nah I watch the whole video I don't skip ahead lol
Thanks very much, whenever I try to skip, it all goes wrong and ads appear and then my old Tv freezes up as if punishing me…
Hi again, I got another question: So in which sequence did you loosen the frame screws? First loosen the 4 screws from above? Then you loosen the 6 Screws from underneath? But First you loosen the two engine mount screws right?
Sorry did not see the comment till just now. I seem to remember I tried whatever screws I could with no particular order. I do remember worrying about the subframe screws, so loosened them before I started to make sure I could free them up. Thing I learnt afterwards is that it would be best to mark around the subframe screws so that you can get it back in same place as it is slightly moveable. Apparently Maserati dealers have a jig to line it up with. Mine is probably out of alignment now, but I need to get my tracking alignment done anyway.
Hello, where did you buy mount?
Hi, I got them from Scuderia. There is also Eurospares. I did find them on eBay for about half price, but I was not sure of the quality and it would have been from Hong Kong which would have incurred an import charge.
