- Another video with me under the car - not much space for someone of my girth... I am looking forward to completing the transmission oil change and engine mounts so that I can get my car back on the road.
So I am fitting an oil accumulator to try and avoid changing the variators... Will it work? so far it seems to. Yes, I will change the variators eventually, but I would like a bit more time and I would like to do it when it suits me...
The variator issue plagues Maseratis of the age of 2007 - 2011 or so. Yet it is not a Maserati fault really - it is the design of the variators which were also fitted to many other cars such as Ferrari, Mercedes, Alfa Romeo, Lamborghini...
The oil accumulator idea came from a search through the forums and reading how other people did it. Unfortunately there is lots of how to, but not many testimonials and reviews after a few months use, so I hope to answer that over the next few months.
This accumulator will be used to pre-oil the engine - it will be a pre-oiler. So it will dump 1.5 quarts into the oil gallery and onwards to the variators just before engine start. That way the variators have oil and are not running dry at engine start. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

A lot of Maserati owners have this issue, but you can't find anywhere a complete video of how it is actually done, where you can see how each part is taken down and then put back together.
You can find information and short videos (max. 15-20 minutes) of people that say that they have done it and maybe include a short time-lapse, but I'd rather watch a full uncut video of the whole process.
20 hours, 40 hours, a series of 1 hour videos - I don't care about the format, just please-please make it.

Eventually I will do that, I have been searching too! However I am hoping I may not have to do it for a while. She has been in the air on jacks for three weeks so I am looking forward to just driving again.

Yes, it was painful! However no noise now and changing the variators is really painful.
I think I will have to give this a try.
Was this a complete kit or did you piece it together?
My QP has had the check valves down well before my time. Like you, I just want to buy some time until I can get the Varrators done.
I had to chuckle when you said buy some time months or years... 😂.
Have to wait till the warmer weather here, but will give it a go.

Hi, I had to piece it all together. I got the accumulator from APPD and the other bits from Matt Lewis. I am hoping to have her back on her wheels this week, so will have more knowledge of how well it has worked soon. So far so good though, now if I can just get enough clearance to get the engine mounts out…
Engine numbers from 148697 have oil valves, but old variators. Engine numbers from 150070 have oil valves and new variators.
Ps: are the last 5 digits of the VIN number also the engine number?
I will take a look in a bit and see about the VIN number.
