    shame that it is so expensive. Here in the US we do not have many choices, I think that once the electric car manufacturers stop marketing these cars as luxury items, more people will actually buy them.

      A Tesla Model 3 is about the same price as a Toyota Camry if you consider the $7,500 tax incentive.

    • @tiojuan174
      @tiojuan174 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@christopherguzzi1316 Er, what?... With the full US Federal Tax Credit ($7,500) a base Tesla Model 3 ($40,240) is $6,320 (24%) more than a base model Toyota Camry ($26,420). But most people (like me) that complain about EV prices also don't qualify for the full tax credit, which means a Model 3 can be as much as $13,820 (52%) more than a Camry. You could almost buy a Toyota Camry and a Nissan Versa for that amount. Even with fuel savings and the full Federal Tax Credit the Camry is still cheaper than the Model 3.
      However, the Tesla Model 3 can indeed become nearly the same price a Camry in states like Colorado that add on state incentives IF you qualify for both the full state incentive as well as the full federal tax credit. In Colorado that incentive is $5,000, making the Model 3 only $1,320 (5%) more expensive IF you qualify for all EV incentives in that state.

    I think there is a market in older generations for the electric Abarth because it's sentimental. I knew a 70+ year old who bought a petrol Abarth 10 years ago. The 500 is a iconic car.

    • @toyotaprius79
      @toyotaprius79 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most new cars are going to be bought/leased by older drivers. That market demographic will continue to age and shrink until automakers eventually get hit with the reality that a sea of crossovers and premium-performance vehicles ends up pricing most people out. Hence the hot demand for second hand where there is not enough plugins.
      China's electric cars are going to wreak havoc on the auto industry and that's the consequences of western automotive executives.

  • @CrankyOldNerd

    We had the 1st generation 500E that we bought used here in the states. My kids learned to drive in it and loved it. Unfortunately the AC broke and no one in the area would work on it. It was only sold on the west coast and we bought it used on the east coast, and all the fiat dealers paniced when they saw it instead of just replacing the compressor. Traded it in on an ID.4 when we heard the 500 E wasn't coming to the us anymore.
    It's a great little car, hope they ship it here.

    Great fun review. I have a 500e and love it but I will be considering getting something with a bit more range soon. I had an ICE Abarth previously and it was great fun. However this, at this price, is not for me. I think you would have to love the badge and look of the car to pay 2k more for this than the MG4 X Power. The MG performance will leave this trailing.

    • @Electroheads
      @Electroheads  ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Brilliant little car but like all EVs expensive. Having read that now they are saying that EVs are not going to deliver zero emissions and if the UK was to meet all its targets the difference globally will be 0.044%. Thus at the age of 73.5 my last car purchase will be petrol.

      I’m in the same boat at 64.5. Just got an Odyssey (petrol) to carry teens and elderly family across the ‘States from Iowa to Florida and back, and this week Iowa to Seattle then back via Missoula - and all five of us plus luggage barely fit!!! Would love an electric passenger van, but none are readily available in the US, and I honestly shudder at the potential cost. We’re only poor artists and teachers, and $200,000 used to be the price of a pretty fancy house across the lake from Prince’s place.

    I am 60 live in the US we have owned 3 Abarth and love the vehicles. The part of this vehicle that makes me concerned is that it will not have the power and acceleration that the Gas version had. it was a fast, loud, fun vehicle to own. Looking at this vehicles specs, the electric motor seems very under powered to match the gas version. Fit and finish are great, but it it is a turtle, i will have to pass on owning another one. The other problem here in the US is that all of the Fiat dealers closed up so I would have to drive SEVERAL hours to buy one and even worse, get it serviced. That too is a concern.

  • @georgemacdonald8899

    Looks like a great little car for tight roads and European cities, yet nimble and sporty enough for quick jaunts out of the city... I drove an early (small) honda civic hatchback for years and really enjoyed it for getting about, this would probably do fine as a replacement. A bit out of my price range now, but I could see doing a fractional purchase or it being part of a "electric club car fleet". It got me thinking that it would be kind of fun to have an Electroheads club, perhaps with a club card(visa) that offered deals/discounts on eProducts and an App to help find the right gear. Might be a way to help some customers make payments on bikes as well.

    34k for this thing is insane, given that despite how cool it is, its still small, it only has a 42kwh battery and 160ish hp. It takes alot of work to design a fun car but to mass produce one with such limited specs is not expensive.

  • @robtyman4281
    @robtyman4281 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Agree. Cars have stopped being fun. They're now too big, too expensive - and yes, too boring.
    People have become obsessed with SUV's, and the 'mine's bigger than yours' syndrome that it encourages. Our roads are not shrinking.....the cars now are just too b****y big!!
    Councils are now having to spend unnecessary amounts of money widening roads so as to accommodate these 'tanks' or 'metal blobs'; and are ruining the streetscape and look of areas as a result.
    This is money that could (and should) be spent on more important things - like weekly bin collections, instead of bi-weekly which most Councils now have. Because the money is being diverted to road widening.
    'Electric' doesn't have to mean 'boring' or joyless - as the current Fiat 500 shows (even though it's a tad on the pricey side); but the car industry are basically not imaginative enough to realise this ....and so churn out ever bigger, and ever blander, sterile cars with each passing year.
    Maybe the entire car industry needs a total rethink of how cars are designed and marketed....and why we even need such huge cars. Do we? ....I don't think so.

    Interesting review of a fun car, Abarth is pulling in their favours, reputationally in charging (ha!) so much for this tiny machine. No, no, thrice no, no external loudspeaker-driven fake ICE engine noises to pollute the environment, keep the speakers inside to entertain the driver (like the Fiesta ST). One good thing about EVs is their motor silence, which will benefit society, big time. Love the boot test- this is a classic, so impressive to see you fold into that tiny space.

    The last thing this world needs is more noise. It creates stress in people and animals. People are already having a difficult time coping with current levels of noise pollution. The world would benefit from small, affordable, non-polluting cars. Unnecessary vehicle noise should be banned, because it impacts everyone forced to be in the vicinity of the car, not just its driver.
