Strikes me as odd that they don’t have the noise louder during acceleration and then drop it down when you are maintaining speed.
It would then better reflect you changing gear once up to speed and would address the issue at speed.

I bought a normal 500 e two weeks ago and its truly a brilliant little car, night and day compared to the old petrol 500. I would love one of these when they have decent colours
When you can buy a used Fiat 500e for under £15k, you'd be a madman to buy this
Give it a year. They'll hit the 20k mark.
Abarth 500e now avaiable for 27k
You can get them £10,000 now it’s insane how much they go down in price.abarth is now going for £23,000.

Good review. Yes, for me the price of these is a big problem. Coming from a combustion engined 500 I bought new for £10k then a used Abarth for £14k, these ev versions are missing the important affordable people’s car option that they should be.
The noise generator wouldn’t be for me and maybe they’re not quite there yet but I do think hot hatches are uniquely positioned to become pretty cool EVs.
Maybe second hand in a year or two, not yet, the competition is amazing looking at the whole market...good advice, thanks again.
They should have made the engine sound generator a button, not something that is hidden away in the menus
For the use you want it for and considering other cars you have it’s ideal….loads of new cars pump fake sound in. An exhaust is just a tube projecting sound I sure this can be reproduced to great effect…A simple knob like Porsche on steering wheel should offer varied sounds eco / sport / plus
i really like the look of it! I wouldn't spend more than 20k on it tho
Another great video. I love my little i3 as an urban runabout. Range is not an issue in this environment. The Abarth does look lovely though !

I bought a new one in Spain for £29k. Its a great fun little car and perfect for the tight parking around Marbella.

As much as I love Abarth (had 3 personally) I don’t think it’s there yet to give you the sensation and sense of occasion we are looking for. I would go for a bmw i3s as the sportiest small EV currently
Colour matches the double yellow lines it’s parked on as well which is handy
Definitely shop around for finance, that's quite expensive and over 5 years!

Great review. With a better range, and more hp, I might buy an Abarth 500e in the future.
It's such a great looking small car. Abarth is about emotion and character. Price is not so important, as it's a different car.
Sam, I'm surprised you didn't make much mention of the charachterful headlamp 'face' of the Abarth, Surely the best face of any city EV ?? PS Would be fun if the sound generator noise could be changed to that of other car engines - say a 360 Challenge Stradale ??
There are top spec ones on Autotrader brand new with no miles or owners for 34k, no point doing a factory order because there are no optional extras other than colour

Would make more sense for the sound generator to be through the speakers rather than outside the car in my opinion
The jingle is hilarious. Cool car. Much better than the old ICE version.
That sound generator is about as loud as the U.S. Abarth's that don't even have mufflers.
Would really recommend an MG4 EV to you.. I also used to drive an Abarth 124 so I understand missing the noise!

Great review as always. Some very interesting points.
I love the idea, but not quite the execution. If it had fake gears or had a cleaner way to tone up and down the noise on the fly or drop in and out of a sport mode it would solve a lot of the problems.
The cost and anticipated crash in value that comes with an EV makes it such a hard sell as a new car though. If you want a new/nearly new EV you a 500e gets you 99% of the way there and will likely cost less than half as much to own for a few years.
Maybe for a behind the scenes runabout 🤷♂️ but better than a couple year old Mini Cooper even?
You need to see if you can get a drive in the Ioniq 5 N. That looks nuts
It’s the perfect ‘second car’ for city/school pickups etc

Don't get me wrong i would love to buy, but is expensive at moment for that price we can get a BMW, mercedes , Audi, etc

I’ve watched Honda E’s shed £10k in the past 9 months or so. I’ve been looking at a small EV that won’t leave the boundaries of Bristol and isn’t bland. For me, at £15k, they’re a bargain! It’s what I’d go with.
The depreciation on EV’s is terrifying - and realistically, who with an ounce of sense buys a new car anymore? Just wait 12 months and let somebody else take the hit, especially if it’s just going to be a daily.
15k for a Honda E with very low running costs- that’s a purchase which makes sense. 👍

I really wish the abarth team would have focused less on the "character" of the car, and more on making it quicker and more fun to actually drive. Imagine if this thing was silent but brutally fast, instead of loud and slow.
Electric Cars - a plan that doesn't work to solve a problem that doesn't exist. Here in North America support for EV’s is dwindling, the prices are out of reach for most people and the infrastructure required to support a significant amount of EV’s are decades off….
I think the sounds is ok, you don’t hear EVs coming or going so a bit noice is brilliant 😅
This is a nice third car
I can get a new bmw i5 40 for about £700 pm. No deposit, all in ( inc even tyres) because of the tax benefit. But I have an X5 already I won’t sell. EVs depreciate so hard I’d never buy one or lease direct. Feels like there’s several second gen EV on the way but no fun ones. Annoying as we have a hot hatch and SUV. Maybe the MG roadster…
Seems like the job of making it appeal to younger people was given to the oldest fart in the company. "What does youths like? Hard rock!"
I'm also interested in how the £500 per month compares to slightly used EVs in the same segment. How much is a Honda E or a Mini Cooper E a month?
Honda:E seems like a better city-ev imo.
That sounds generation must feed off the batteries shortening range and costing you money per mile.

I’m an ev fan. I’ve got 2 and they save me a fortune but the gimmick noise is a no from me. They shouldn’t try to be something they ain’t.

If a driver wants an obnoxious noise in the cabin... fine. That Abarth decided to make the sound not only audible from the outside, but louder is ridiculous.

This car has more character than other EV's in the same way that a Henry Hoover has more character than other vacuum cleaners...
40k for a Fiat Abarth. It might have the looks, but that is all it's got going for it. What's with the fake noises . Not only would it give me range anxiety it would give me noise anxiety.
Probably good as a used EV but that's about it.
Sounds like all of the improvements are great bar the fact it is electric. If there was an ICE version it would probably sell well

No matter how much you hype EVs: petrol heads will never like them. Manufacturers should have noted that. Sell EVs to normal Joes, but not to Perol heads

EV is strange this weeks, BMW CEO are against EV, Ford not sure anymore, Toyota again talking about Hydrogen....Norway got one fillingstation for Hydrogen so who knows...
Let's look at the elephants in the room.
What's with the unnecessary fake synthetic sound generator, that you can't permanently switch it off.
It's unbearable not even to show off it's embarrassing.
The other is the jingle when switching it on.
The price is astronomical 32k up to 42k
As an ABARTH fan it looks fantastic....

They shouldn’t have made an Abarth an EV in the first place. It’s not a big size engine it’s 1.4 Turbo didn’t need to an EV. Range is absolutely appalling for the price they want for it. If you want one just buy a normal Fiat 500e? This EV trend is meant to be better for the environment but who will buy these cars for £15k when the battery is out of warranty and doesn’t hold its charge anymore like your smartphone? The range is poor now can you imagine how bad it will be 6 years down the line that’s basically a new engine. To dispose of the old batteries does more to the environment than a 1.4 Turbo if anything they should have made it EV for more performance? I really don’t understand this EV trend especially when there isn’t really an infrastructure for charging unless you own a Tesla

Why didn’t they engineer it to change sound as you change speed? Why can’t you change the volume of it? Why can’t you just turn it on/off on the fly with a button rather than burying it deep in the settings? Why does the idle sound continue when you’re ’revving’ it? It’s just so so lazy. And that cringe rock and roll jingle just shows how out of touch Abarth are now, clearly aren’t run by driving enthusiasts
No because it is not practical for you and your baby plus all the stuff that the baby needs in the car.
Good luck with losing LOADS of money and insurance 😂😂😂😂 not to mention charging it and battery damage xxx

So the question is, what the point of the electric abarth? Cos without the sound you wouldn’t want to rag it around so you’d just pootle around in it so wouldn’t a regular 500 electric be better?

The EV concept seems to be a massive money pit, in terms of financing and depreciation. And that is scarring people off.
To all the folk scared of EV's: Imagine a city traffic jam without noise. Wouldnt that be great?
Ill take the noise from my S2000 to the country roads or race tracks.
After your story with your beautiful 695 it would only be right for you to have a 500e with the closest possible spec to your original 695

Just to check, does that fact that it’s pustule yellow allow you to park on double yellow lines legally?
The old 500 had a sport button, which was nice because it would be pretty tame and drivable for normal running and then you'd pop it into sport mode on a back road and it would come to life. They should bring that back and tie the noise generator to it.
Get a EV and after a year tell us all about it.
The noise generator is a good idea around town as it will help pedestrians hear it approaching but otherwise switch it off. I like the colours and the quality and interior but not the price
