Thoughts on FSD V12…worth it or not? 👇🏼

Also, be sure to use my Tesla referral link when buying a Tesla to get some cool perks ✅ (link in description)
FSD is the best feature Tesla has offered.. it's definitely it's USP! Great video and review 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Game changing ✅
Might be, it for sure isn’t quality on their vehicles, or delivering on their advertised range
Also use dark mode at all times. Looks so much better and easier on the eyes.
Haha I always use dark mode but for the video, the dark screen was getting the camera reflection under the sun.
What an impressive feature! We've come a long way 😍😍
Pretty impressive self driving! Its come a long way 👌🏽
Nice review
Thanks a lot! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼
Do you think 2021 model Y is able to have this update?
It should be available if you live in US/Canada and have the latest update. Not sure if Tesla is limiting it to certain customers.
@@astateoftech i meant the model Y 2021 have enough hardware to install the 12.3.4 software version? Thanks
How are teslas and EVs in general perceived in your part of Canada. In Manitoba there is so much negative sentiment and some parts of NB where I’ve been. Do you get a lot of FUD and negativity?
Teslas are pretty common here in Ontario. I think on social media it attracts hate from petrol heads, but the general public always thinks highly of Teslas.
For me the range, the quality build and the reability is more important than auto pilot
Until you age which we all do.
Build quality and range (in hot or cold climates) is not good, for Tesla vehicles.
@@DerekDavis213what kind of problems did you have with yours?
Although FSD still steps on the curb, makes a mistake of turning right and turning left, and finding directions is not complete.. Thousands of people every day..1.5 million people every year are killed by so called perfect Human driver now around the world.. I think FSD much safer than such perfect humans, and I think the more people use FSD, the less fatal accidents will be. What do you think? 🤔
_the more people use FSD, the less fatal accidents will be_
The FSD Beta test program has been astonishingly safe. Teslas with FSD engaged have now driven >one billion miles, with no confirmed fatalities; and only one claimed but highly unlikely fatality in Colorado in 2022. Meanwhile, NHTSA statistics show that average human drivers driving one billion miles of driving in the U.S. would experience *13.4 fatalities.* While of course that number has to be adjusted for demographics, car age and condition, driving conditions, etc., there's no conceivable set of adjustments that could adjust 13.4 fatalities down to zero. And zero fatalities also almost certainly means fewer injuries and fewer accidents, which is pretty much the definition of increased safety.
Yeah been hearing that for years
I want to clarify, Tesla now offers the software for just 99 bucks / months
Haha you didn’t watch until the end of the video!
@@astateoftech oh lol, might have missed that
Well it is a $2k upgrade from EAP now and that is worth it to me
Yup changed again haha!
Interesting ❤
Haha ya it is really fun to use 👌🏼
Tesla doesn’t promise that if you purchase FSD for your car that you will be entitled to fully autonomous if and when it becomes available.
Sorry but I have to be critical here.
If you use summon while standing right next to the car, that is not even remotely a representative use case. I honestly can’t fathom why you’d test it that way. The car didn’t really have anywhere to go and the developers working on this functionality almost certainly aren’t focused on that sort of strange and trivial scenario thing. In fact when the GPS location of your phone is so close to the GPS location of the car, they probably have it programmed to just move forward a few feet because it’s assumed you just want some clearance in order to open the doors.
Agree and disagree. I could have tested it from a greater distance as an additional check for sure! But the use case I mentioned in the video is squeezing it in a tight parking spot, so you don’t have to enter in and out of your vehicle with difficulty.
@@astateoftechyeah, it just doesn't do that yet. The smart summon isn't out yet but will surely incorporate the auto park feature. Never in my 6 years of ownership had I needed to use this feature. Lol
I haven’t gotten mine
Where do you live? Did you do the latest software update?
Same here in Seattle
Oh sorry it had been late but in Texas
also, you unfortunately have the old parking software. The new one is much better
I don't have summon on my 2024 Model y 😞
Even with the FSD trial? 😳
People with the latest greatest HW4 (hardware version 4) are getting a crippled FSD.
Tesla is focusing on older cars first. Seems unfair.
@@DerekDavis213 _People with the latest greatest HW4 (hardware version 4) are getting a crippled FSD_
No, some features are better in HW4, some better in HW3. HW4 with Vision Only gets the better Autopark, while HW3 gets summon-presumably because they have USS. My preference would be the better Autopark; others may differ.
_Tesla is focusing on older cars first._
No, 52% of HW4 cars have 12.3.4, vs. 34% of HW3 cars.
@@Big_Ben_from_La_Mesa If Autopark is better on HW4, then why does it *only* work when backing into a spot? Diagonal parking places are not supported, and Autopark cannot even drive in straight to a parking spot! Unbelievable.
You mention percentages. Where did you get those exact figures? Do you work for Tesla?
@@DerekDavis213 _If Autopark is better on HW4_
Autopark is objectively better on HW4. HW4 allows you to select which parking spot you want to park in, on both sides of the lane you're driving down. HW3 Autopark only selects a single parking spot. Presumably, this is temporary; there seems to be no reason the HW3 cars with USS can't do the same, so this is likely just an improvement Tesla hasn't gotten around to. Neither of them do anything but back into a spot.
_why does it only work when backing into a spot?_
You have an absurd fixation on a trivial issue. It is easy to drive head on into a perpendicular spot, even easier to pull into a diagonal spot. Backing into a spot is safer, because when you leave you're not backing out into traffic you can't see. But it takes considerably more skill, and most people have to back and fill 2-3 times to get lined up correctly. This, and the improved safety, are most likely why Tesla's Autopark backs into spaces.
Many other cars have Autopark, of some form or another. To your knowledge, do any of the others give you the option of driving straight in or backing in? And if not, are you similarly making obsessive comments on their forums?
_Where did you get those exact figures?_

The latest 12.3.4 FSD has some problems:
3:50 FSD goes right into a pothole. Human would easily avoid it.
9:40 FSD failed to turn right on redlight. Human intervenes.
12:20 FSD auto-parks very slowly. Rated 4/10.
14:15 Summon fails in parking lot. Rated 5/10.
Haha love the timestamps Derek! Agreed summon/auto park still needs work but the fact FSD took me as far as it did is still super impressive 👌🏼
The new vision only auto park is really really impressive
@@matttm3 Most other EVs worldwide believe that *sensors* are very important. They measure distance accurately, even in the dark. Tesla Vision cameras cannot do that.
For example: Radar, Lidar, Ultrasonic.
Agreed on potholes. Not all states allow right on reds. Plus some imtersections don’t allow it. Makes sense Tesla would default to no. Auto park is def slow but that’s by design as people can come out from anywhere in parking lot. Summon is a gimmick and should be cancelled. But I had fsd 11 and it was okay. Tried friends fsd with 12 and we took a 30 minute trip, with stop signs, highways, and red lights etc and did entire trip with zero interactions or issues. It’s awesome if you need to drive a lot or just want the car to do it like if you tired or something. You don’t understand how good it is unless you own one and try it. It’s crazy good
@@myaccount__7269 Right on reds are ok unless a *SIGN* says otherwise. And FSD can read street signs, right? And there are 1000's of hours of training and neural nets, right?
97 percent proficient is not *crazy* *good* . If I have to watch FSD like a hawk for every second on the road, then what is the point?
Four years in beta, and FSD is still a simple minded assistant that makes mistakes every day.
I Have used FSD over the last few years. Todays FSD I wouldn't pay a dime. It should be free until its a safe and viable product. Sadly, today, it is not. ty
_It should be free_
That's only your opinion, and of course you're welcome to it. If it had always been free, it would never have been developed, and its potential to save tens of thousands of lives a year would never be realized. It was the 400,000 FSD Beta test group buying or subscribing to FSD Beta that paid for its development, which Tesla would not otherwise have been able to afford. Most of them, including me, were happy to pay for it, for differing reasons.
_until its a safe and viable product. Sadly, today, it is not._
Do you have any evidence that FSD (Beta/Supervised) is not a safe product? If so, please produce it.
@@Big_Ben_from_La_Mesa my evidence of it being dangerous is every day on my 3 mile commute to work it almost kills me if I don’t disengage by pulling out in front of cars doing 55mph at a simple merge. The first day it became available free for 30 days, at a fork in the road going 35mph, it decided it would go straight between the fork. If I didn’t take over it would’ve smashed into the curb. These are only two examples. So if that’s happening to me I’m sure it’s happening to others. So personally I wouldn’t pay a dime for it. With that said, I believe Tesla will get there eventually but today it still needs a lot of improvements. The most frustrating part is when it works properly it’s amazing, well it fails, like most other technologies, it’s useless. Thank you.
@@billnipp2309 V12.3? It's not perfect yet…If you use the FSD function and then stop using it, i think driving itself maybe become very uncomfortable and stressful. In my case, I use FSD for almost 95%-99% of the driving time so it's very convenient, and It always scan for blind spots, so I think it's safer than humans. Don’t you?
@@billnipp2309 Yes, I agree that FSD *by itself,* without a human driver to take over when it falters, would still be dangerous. But the FSD Beta test program and now FSD (Supervised) have been extraordinarily safe. Teslas with FSD engaged have now driven >one billion miles, with no fatalities. Meanwhile, NHTSA statistics show that average drivers driving one billion miles in the U.S. would experience 13.4 fatalities.
While of course that number would have to be adjusted for demographics, car age and condition, driving conditions, etc., there's no conceivable set of adjustments that could adjust 13.4 fatalities down to zero. Further, zero fatalities also almost certainly means fewer injuries and fewer accidents, which is pretty much the definition of increased safety. And FSD will necessarily stay in "Supervised" mode until it can be shown to achieve adequate safety *without* a human driver to take over-i.e., SAE Level 4.
th-cam.com/video/kzyGDTZ9ceE/w-d-xo.html Answer to your $12K FSD buy or not-to-buy question in the U.S. is like buying a brand new 2024 MYP (think of it as buying a $4.89 hamburger in tiny Georgia town) for $47,630 after federal tax credit, but before tax/registration, on April 19, 2024. It costs only 25% (rounded up) more to add FSD to said MYP.
Now in the case of the hamburger, the cashier asks if you would want to have fries ($2.39) to go with that? Most people in the U.S. would say yes! Oh btw those are actual costs of the hamburger and fries, before tax, (found in a tiny USA Georgia town) of a world-famous fast-food restaurant chain.
Bottom line: people would gladly pay 49% (rounded up) more to add fries to their hamburger. So, why would prospective and non-FSD current 2024 MYP owners agonize over the 25% more money to add FSD to their cars?? Unless they truly can't afford to do so, financially!!
I mean going month by month allows you to save money on the months you don’t drive as much. For example, in the winter months I drive way less than summer months.
@@astateoftech Still, 25% is simply what people pay as tips for a sit-down restaurant meal. It is no big money at all.
