You remind me of my mom. You two are so alike, it looks and your lesson learned story. I too have locked myself out a time or two with just pajamas. We also use those pinpads and my husband changes the code a few times a year. Well... he changed the code but forgot to tell me. He works with loud machinery so he wears plugs or headphones to protect his hearing. They work so well that he couldn't hear any of my calls nor feel his phone vibrating because he was using tools. There I was in flannel little shirt and shorts pajamas and it's 18 degrees! You thought you were hot, I thought I would freeze. Finally, after God knows how long, at least an hour, my husband calls me in a panic (thank goodness I had my phone on me) he saw all the missed calls and thought I had a car accident or something terrible had happened. I told him something terrible is happening. I'm freezing on the porch with my three cats for company. He gave me the code. In the end, all turned out well. My husband did hide a key on our back patio just in case I decided to call in the cats for breakfast with only a stitch of clothing on. I hope nobody saw me, a foolish lady, freezing on her front stoop.
My daughter made me promise her that I take my phone with me every time I go outside. Even if it is to just check on my chickens. Do I? Sometimes I do. Sometimes I don't. This helped as a reminder to me that I need to do it every time. Thanks, Mary, and I am glad Brian came and saved the day for you.
Wow, what a harrowing experience! I'm so glad Brian got there when he did! Years ago, when my son was 3 or 4, we went out into the garage and apparently didn't turn the doorknob far enough to unlock the house door. Of course, we had shut it. Did whatever we went out there for, and realized we were locked out. This was way before cell phones, or at least, I didn't have one yet. We have the crank type of windows, so they don't open very wide. But I took a screwdriver or some such, been a lot of years ago. My son's 43 now. Our house is sort of built on a slope, but I managed to reach up there and pry the window open as wide as I could. Then barely was able to lift my son up high enough that he could climb in that partially opened window, and he knew how to go and open the door to let me in. It, of course, bent the frame of the window, so we had to get that fixed, but at least we got in! Thankfully, it was a mild day, so I didn't have temperatures to worry about! But I'm pretty sure my husband was out of town. So, I know how helpless you felt!! From then on, we kept a spare key hidden in the garage, so we never could have that happen again!! Maybe there's somewhere you could hide a key? If the pushbutton one doesn't take a key, I assume your other door does? Anyway, I'm so glad it all turned out OK! But, I'm glad you took it easy the rest of the day!! And thank goodness for your son!!
Mary sorry that happened to you! I did the same thing a couple of years ago. I had to walk about five miles toy boyfriend's house to get the extra key.I wanted to cry but I didn't. We are strong women. Hope the rest of your week is great.💛
I live by myself at seventy with an unoperable heart condition and many other ailments. My local police have a wellness check number every morning I must call by 10:30. I too open my door and feed my cats in my nightdress and no bra. Also open the iron gate to the sidewalk. I do that first and then do my call in before 10:30 am or they send an officer out to the house. The fire department, EMT'S and police know where my safety key is hidden outside along with neighbors. I also have a set with my friend who lives twenty minutes away and they all take care of my kitties when I have to stay in the hospital for a time. Hide a key etc where it is inconspicuous far away from around the house. Also, you have your second cottage to hide a key for that you can use to get out of the weather. Even when I do all this I forget my phone, etc. We are human and are age very vulnerable. It has saved my life and you are ao lucky to have family that saved yours. Once, I thought I could walk out past my sidewalk, but my vertigo kicked in and I had to cling to a telephone pole and yell and cry for help. Till a young man walking his dogs heard , saw, and walked me into my house, one evening. Embarrassing but I had to realize I had to be careful since informed and living alone. God bless you and go with you, yours and your fur babies. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and my little cottage is called, "Shepherd's Rest." As I farmed and could do the work of any man for 48 years. But now I just enjoy every day, and I am blessed and grateful to my Lord.
There was an old lady living in my bungalow before me. She had a key safe on the wall. It’s come in handy a few times. If I’ve not been there and I needed someone to go in
Mary we've all done something like that. I will not have those locks but I have gotten locked out b4. We keep a key hidden now. But many yrs ago I had to crawl thru a window. Couldn't do it now!! But I do try to remember my phone. My fear is falling. I do keep water outside and there's the hose. Glad your son helped you. Good idea about Alexa. ❤❤❤❤❤
Oh Mary, so glad your ok and Brian saved you! Your story will be a reminder for me! My husband passed away June 23rd and now my girls keep telling me to be safe and take my phone with me when outside. I have to keep reminding myself I’m 71 and need to stop doing things I shouldn’t! Stay blessed.🙏💕
that is the scariest thing😢 about 5 years ago. I was going to church on a Sunday night and I remembered I did not have my keys. My house was locked up and Otis was inside. Thank goodness my neighbor was home and even though I gave her a key for the slider in back. I had the extra lock up top on, so that did no good😮 about an hour later and $300 later, locksmith now I have a key in my pocketbook. I have a key in a hidden place outside and I never put the top lock on my slider again lesson learned I am so glad you’re OK.❤ this is why my daughter always tells me to take my phone even when I’m taking the dog out❤ and I’m glad you’re resting, praise God that you are OK🙏 and yes, he gets all the glory🙏 He sent Brian to you❤
Hi there Mary well sure wasn't a good start for your day what an ordeal. We keep an extra key in our shed just for something like this, but if the screen door locks on me I would be kinda out of luck for a time, would have to cut the screen. Such a helpless feeling. Glad that Brian finally came along to get you back inside. I think we will stick with the old fashioned key in the door myself.
So glad you are okay. That had to be scary because of the heat. That makes me think about my mother. This is a lesson for me to tell her to take her keys and phone with her anytime she goes outside!

What an ordeal Mary! That was smart thinking with alexa, Brian would figure maybe something is wrong if you can't answer. Now I'm not a fan of that modern lock technology, still like a deadbolt/lower lock on a solid door with no window for safety. My mom always had a key pinned to her clothes if she went outside. And I today, take the key from my door and put it in the outside of lock if I'm going outside for anything. I always have the fear the wind will blow door shut and/or lock malfunction and i get locked out. Plus I leave door ajar a little. Not one to carry my phone outside. Suppose you'll be having a plan now plus you always have alexa LOL
Omg Mary how awful!! 😲 you have a lot more patience than I do. I couldn’t have lasted three hours outside. I would’ve broken out all the windows and crawled into the house. Mary that happened to me years ago. We lived upstairs and it started to rain. I had c.othes on the line and ran out there to g e t them. Our son had never got out of the crib. He was only a little over a year old. I came back and he had c,imbed out of crib and shut the door. I was panicked because I was afraid he would get into bleach or whatever. I ran next door and my husband left work and came home and unlocked the door. Our son is 64 now. I feel for you. My mom would pin her keys to her clothes when she went outside
Oh Mary how scary for you. No neighbors to go to either. I would of have had a panic attack plus I would have bawled like a baby. Think I would have walked to the road and flagged down a car to take me to Brian's. So sorry this happened to you. Shoot one of those locks wouldn't be for me. I'd forget the code unless it was tattooed on my on my body somewhere. Stay safe .
I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know it must have been very scary. Thankfully, you were able to get Alexia to call Brian. You look so pretty today with your lipstick on. It is a beautiful color.
Oh my goodness!!! Caught out without a bra!?!?😮 Drink from the hose! That was terrible! Could you have gone next door for water? You need a fanny pak to wear when you go outside with your keys, your phone and some water! Maybe put a key somewhere outside instead of taking all your keys out! The Lord was with you, no matter how you felt, to allow you to talk with Alexa and call Brian! There was a reason you installed her! Thank God you are OK and did not pass out! God was surely good to you today!😊❤

Hide you a key outside. Im glad you are ok❤
Stay safe .
I had on very thin jammies or I would have walked to the road and flagged someone down. No one needs to ever see me in jammies with no bra. lol
Years ago, it happened to me. I now own a hide a key rock. Funny, I haven't locked myself out since. 🤔
😮💓Hugs sweet Mary💓 so sorry this happened...glad you are alright
Thanks so much
I always take my key in my pocket when I get dressed! That way I don't worry ! ❤
I'm so sorry that happened to you. I know it must have been very scary. Thankfully, you were able to get Alexia to call Brian. You look so pretty today with your lipstick on. It is a beautiful color.
thank you Mary
Oh my goodness!!! Caught out without a bra!?!?😮 Drink from the hose! That was terrible! Could you have gone next door for water? You need a fanny pak to wear when you go outside with your keys, your phone and some water! Maybe put a key somewhere outside instead of taking all your keys out! The Lord was with you, no matter how you felt, to allow you to talk with Alexa and call Brian! There was a reason you installed her! Thank God you are OK and did not pass out! God was surely good to you today!😊❤
next door is my rent house. It's locked all the time.

Brian needs to have a key to your new lock!
he's installing a new lock tomorrow. He will be able to unlock my house with his phone wherever he is.
Hide a spare key someplace outside.
I hide a key outside.
A rock works. Did that. LOL
lol yep
So sorry that happened to you. I wonder what would have happened if you told Alexa to call 911?
I hope I never have to find out. I couldn't hear her but she sure heard me.
Maybe hide a spare key under a rock or something.
yes good idea. I will have additional keys made now.

Grace, I haven't had a live in 2 weeks. I've been so busy working on that house. Hopefully I'll have one this Saturday.
