@A B Non-Evolved Pokemon learning their more advanced moves is something a lot of people don't know. They also have moves that they can't learn after evolving, another thing many people don't know. Yea, i did a run with just Gyrados back in the day, that being said any electric fight is a nightmare, you gotta kill them in one hit and somehow not die in one hit yourself - took a ton of saves, but he definitely has the ability.
Technically it is possible to beat the game with Magikarp if you were one of the 20 people to obtain the university Magikarp Japan gave out as an event back in 98'. Which means you could have dragon rage on the Magikarp allowing you to defeat the ghost Pokemon. I'd gameshark the move on and continue the video and just mention that it is possible under those circumstances.
The fact that the event Magikarp was distributed at all should mean it's within reason to allow a starting Magikarp with the move Dragon Rage cheated on (but in place of Splash, which the University Magikarp lacks).
He’s right though. You are truly the real deal for using this pokemon that’s about as effective as a training dummy in a fight and beating a gym leader with it
The only way to complete it would be to use a University Magikarp. There was an event in japan where 20 magikarps with dragon rage were given away. I realise this makes the challenge easier, but it would be with a magikarp that was obtainable for some people without cheating in the original red/blue and would make the challenge possible.
"Do I... just tell you what happened and trust that you'll believe me? Do I... give up and try a different video? or do I do the truly insane thing and do this a second time, in order to get the footage I need!" That. That right there earned you a subscriber, this is... insanity, and I love it.
You should have honoured your Magikarp after all the brutal training you put him through and out of appreciation for his hard work, let him evolve and whoop those Ghost types and go on to face the elite 4 and become the true Pokemon league champion.
Vegan Life Change I just realized that magikarp can’t touch ghost types after reading you’re comment. Edit: man if only this wasnt gen 1. This was made before I finished the vid
Cheese poofs8 he meant even after realizing he can’t continue the game with just a Magikarp, he should have let it evolve and finish the rest of the game for fun.
The thing is: struggle hits ghost types after gen 1. after... I found some people that don't know this, had struggle been able to hit ghastly, this could have been possible.

Can someone explain the thousands of dislikes on here? The sheer amount of patience and effort on display is objectively impressive, besides for it being a decently well edited and scripted video
It could be because it was 45 minutes ending with the answer "No," but seriously, it's very clear to see that Magikarp can't hit any ghost Pokémon, which is a requirement to beat the game, so I don't know why those people are complaining
Crazelord91 there will be dislikes on every video unless your a no body like me , if you can’t even get 10 likes , struggle to get 100 views a video , then your not getting dislikes . But point is , any popular video will have dislikes even if the video is perfect , trolls I tell you
My thoughts exactly......Like what? Look at all the amazing games that are out right now? I played the shit out of this game (Actually sitting in my gameboy on shelf RN) but WOW!!! Total commitment.....
When I was a dumb kid, I decided to do a "challenge" somewhat like this--a challenge lite, if you will. It was in Red Version, and I would not let myself leave Viridian Forest until my Charmander evolved all the way to a Charizard. I was a stupid 10-year-old and wanted a challenge. After going through a pile of dead batteries, I did it, and curb-stomped Brock. It was sort of fun. Red was my "derp" copy--Blue was my "serious" copy.
while i was duping some lvl up bonbons i stepped on a mewto where missingno appeared...i lvled it up to 255? with bonbons then it starts again from lvl 0. So half an hour later my friend traded me back my lvl 5 mewto to a new file. It didnt obey me but it was fking impossible to kill (and the stats did drop to lvl 5 too just to mention). I think it never died actually till the end. It was a lot of fun actually seeing gary´s pokemons getting totally destroyed xD My friend did the same with a second one and he had fun aswell ...oh the memories :D
Dude, you are the perfect example of ‘work HARDER not smarter’ doing all this manually... and in any other case I’d say that’s a bad thing, but with you, I just gain more and more respect for you and your insane dedication with each video.
...yes but he's using an action replay anyway so for the purposes of the challenge run, he could've just hacked the starter magikarp to have dragon rage (which'd actually be a hilarious way to wipe that smug grin off gary's face when his supposed advantage with bulbasaur gets demolished turn 1, and he basically loses to a magikarp in 1 turn) and would've made brock so much less cancer as well as the majority of the early game being a complete joke with your insta gib dragon rages. do that, use pp ups on your dragon rage and save ALL your elixirs, ethers, etc for agatha and you might just be able to do it
15:05 an onward should be considered a charitable action. What an absolutely incredible thing you did. Side note, I literally watched every ad in this video, not even skipping the skippable ones. You deserve every bit of return you're getting for this effort
I really loved this video. Can...this be a series? Try across all generations to use weak Pokemon only? Not even just Magikarp. Shuckle. Edit: Holy Arceus, there's a ton of support on this comment, and I didn't even ask for it! Thanks guys! Well, let's just see what happens.
Turns out there are 20 people in the world who could complete this challenge. The reason? The University Magikarp. It was given to 20 players and those 20 Magikarp were the only Magikarp in gen 1 that knew a move other than Splash and Tackle, they knew Dragon Rage. That means if you had one of those 20 Magikarp, you would be able to beat the ghost pokemon and progress, not to mention Dragon rage would make the whole run in general easier. Now obviously this is stretching the rules of the challenge a bit, but still, that does mean it is possible!
Or use a Bubble Magikarp from the "Gotta Catch 'em All!" event that took place in New York's Pokemon Center. Granted, it was a Gen II event, but you *can* trade Kanto Pokemon back to the Gen I games.
I haven't played pokemon in almost ten years, but I love this video. It's a good mix of nostalgia bomb and an interesting explaination of mechanics I just took for granted as a kid.

I actually end the video close right now, and I can tell you, that I also doesn't feel the 45 min. video... Through the video I was only saying: "my goodness people, this guy has a lot of commitment" and thinking of his frustrating feeling and pain when appears another Odish... xd
Yeah, I expected to watch it on fast forward while playing love nikki on my phone,
but I wound up completely engaged in the video,
dropped everything and watched in amazement
This video made me realize two things
1.) Magikarps are worse than I thought and I freaking hate them.
2.) There is so much more to pokemon battling than I ever cared to pay attention to. The thought of waiting for an opponent to run out of PP to use struggle and damage itself, while wouldn't work in red & blue is still something that wouldn't have ever crossed my mind.
I think one of the hardest parts of doing this yourself is having to press B after every fight that you level up.
RIP Gyarados.
too bad theres no everstone amirite

in gen one, you can still miss with 100% accuracy. that speaks for itself
@@petkofuchalski9809 If you think about it, it makes sense.
It may be a move with a 100% accuracy but the pokemon you are facing will try to dogde it.The only way to get a truly 100% hit rate would be if the pokemon you are facing either does not try to dodge it or is too slow.
@@JoahTheThread5ive it may make sense but i hate it when the game strait up lies to me.
this is the only RPG that has problems like that.
@@petkofuchalski9809 this is at least sometimes due to a glitch called the 1/256 glitch, where things that are supposed to have 100% accuracy (and also pokeballs, including the master ball), have a 1 out of 256 chance of missing/failing capture
No, that’s false. The master ball isn’t affected by the accuracy glitch because it skips it entirely.

Pretty sure you can finish the run with ease using just Garados.
Yea, i did a run with just Gyrados back in the day, that being said any electric fight is a nightmare, you gotta kill them in one hit and somehow not die in one hit yourself - took a ton of saves, but he definitely has the ability.
I did one with only venonat :)

Very
making videos that other people haven't made is the most fun thing on the planet
TehRadBrad true but still there is only 20 of the magikarp but at least you typed the real fact thanks
jfc thats so obscure i- wow kudos to you lol
The fact that the event Magikarp was distributed at all should mean it's within reason to allow a starting Magikarp with the move Dragon Rage cheated on (but in place of Splash, which the University Magikarp lacks).
I think the challenge would be so much easier with dragon rage instead of splash
I was litterly Just about to say this lol

My brain: Dude you gotta be up at 4am, it's a workday.
Me: shut up brain, I gotta watch Magikarp grind for those exp points.
The only way to complete it would be to use a University Magikarp. There was an event in japan where 20 magikarps with dragon rage were given away. I realise this makes the challenge easier, but it would be with a magikarp that was obtainable for some people without cheating in the original red/blue and would make the challenge possible.
Or the Gen 2 event one traded back. It has Hydro Pump
According to Bulbapedia, it's bubble, not hydro pump. Still better than tackle though.

Vegan Life Change I just realized that magikarp can’t touch ghost types after reading you’re comment. Edit: man if only this wasnt gen 1. This was made before I finished the vid
I think he didn't let it evolve because he could only use Magikarp
Cheese poofs8 he meant even after realizing he can’t continue the game with just a Magikarp, he should have let it evolve and finish the rest of the game for fun.
What Steven said. There was nothing he could do to compete the Challenge. Magikarp deserved to finish his dream of League glory.
Vegan Life Change I know but I didn’t watch the whole thing and you mentioned ghost types
for the ones that are questioning how the magikarp is not evolving, it's not a mod nor a glitch, you just press B when magikarp tries to evolve.
This video must have been a real struggle.

These dislikes are jealous people that hate everyone who gets millions of views

Someone did this, but with a single ditto.
All of the save files with those magikarps are gone though.
True. And even if one still did exist, there's no way to find it. Still, it was once a thing.
n0ame1u1 I think somebody put one on the internet
Mine has celebration xd
...yes but he's using an action replay anyway so for the purposes of the challenge run, he could've just hacked the starter magikarp to have dragon rage (which'd actually be a hilarious way to wipe that smug grin off gary's face when his supposed advantage with bulbasaur gets demolished turn 1, and he basically loses to a magikarp in 1 turn) and would've made brock so much less cancer as well as the majority of the early game being a complete joke with your insta gib dragon rages. do that, use pp ups on your dragon rage and save ALL your elixirs, ethers, etc for agatha and you might just be able to do it

I'm so glad I found your channel. Amazing content and you can tell how much work you spend editing all this. Wish I was rich to give back to you!
