- Pokemon Ribbons are a thing that pretty much everyone has earned at least once in a Pokemon game. But what does it take to get all of them? What about the ribbon for cleansing shadow pokemon? Shouldn't your pokemon have that or did you not purify that specific one. I remember the shadow version of him in that game.

Honestly, this is weirdly wholesome. Like, this Pokemon used to be a Shadow Pokemon, and now it’s a champion in every region, a master of contests, a master of battling, and it’s an extremely accomplished pokemon in every way. Which is super awesome.

Yep, which is why I’m doing the same thing with a Ralts I caught in XD. It’s also a male, so I plan on evolving it into Gallade once I’m ready to transfer it to Gen. 4.

Now I'm disappointed the game doesn't detect if a Pokemon has the old ribbon and make Red react in some way.
Obviously not by saying something, but just having him react differently would be an amazing detail.

It's a good read if you guys are interested. I've known Ribbon Masters to take as short as a month, and as long as multiple years. It just depends on how long you have to spend on it and how much of the setup you have to do. Once you do one Ribbon Master, it's much easier to go through it with other Pokemon.

these days i feel like i'm one of the very few people who genuinely enjoyed contests. i guess i just liked the break from the utter monotony that is constant battles.

Couldnt John used his second ds with completed platinum to complete the WiFi ribbon? Connecting to the same DNS server?
@@thomasc9248 The Wifi ribbon does not require others to be online. All you have to do is go there and fight the AI that has teams based on the last seven people to beat the Wifi tower. For every seven win streak you get a rank up, and if you lose, you just go down one rank. It's worth noting that you will not have to start over, unlike all the other Tower ventures.
You repeat that until you reach rank five and you get the ribbon.
@@thomasc9248 thanks to the fan servers, you can actually do the ribbons again! The way that the Wifi Tower works, you play singles 3v3 matches against other people's teams that they have uploaded to the servers. As long as you have access to public wifi or a WEP protected router, you can now access the Wifi Tower in its entirety.

Dunsparce literally has an entire village that is crazy for it, i think that also had a dedicated anime episode.

@@halfway7690 there is 4,294,967,295 patterns,divided by 30(number of mons in a box pretty sure) is 143,165,577 ,so ain't gonna fit only 32 boxes atm,unless you put each pattern in each box in each game (RSE and above) which I think is possible

I love Pokémon Contests! They have more depth than a lot of people give them credit for. They can be difficult, and fun. Gen 4 did well with contests, expanding on what was already established. I will say that the contests that ORAS has are much worse and too easy compared to gen 3 and gen 4. I hope that the gen 4 remakes do justice to how fun contests can be.
I loved gen 4 contests as a kid. I loved playing dress up games, so dressing up my pokémon was so fun. While gen 4 is probably my least favourite gen, if they implement contests with the dressing up portion again, that’ll probably be my incentive to buy it.
PS: it was annoying to see people complain about no gen 4 remakes when Pokémon was on the 3ds. Now that it’s on the Switch it’s a sure thing, but you could have just played the originals on the same system they’d have been remade on!

Oras made me love contests even to go as far as to legit collect the master ribbon on 81 competitive pokemon. So I appreciate it for that atleast even though you are right and they are by far the easiest.
FORRETRESS IS IN SCARLET/VIOLET, and there are 3 new ribbons to collect (one being inaccessible due to needing to surprise trade for it). I really hope you make a video continuing this through the new additions, the twinkling star ribbon from bdsp, the hisuian ribbon from taking a picture with the pokemon and the championship ribbon in scarlet/violet (excluding the rare surprise trade ribbon).
If you had two copies of the game, could you repeatedly surprise trade with yourself on local wifi?
@@rizekcajk3410 Sadly the surprise trade ribbon is only accesible through online surprise trade, don't think you can do it locally, from what i've understood
ngl wonder trading with yourself only feels possible in the gen 6 games with how few ppl are playing rn, ive wonder traded on 2 3ds's multiple times and if i start the wonder trade at the same time i just trade myself lol

Years after this video dropped, every time I hear discussion about Pokemon Contests I still think about your Forretress prancing around on stage and using Explosion and the judges being like "Wow, that was beautiful!" after watching a rock bug knock itself out. It's cool to let Pokemon do something in the games besides battling, but the mental image is hilarious.

I'd like to try this with the Heal Bell Articuno you can get in XD some day. Gonna be a bit of a nightmare though, since it has a very poor typing and can't be leveled up at all before getting the level 50 battle tower ribbon without getting locked out of it.
It's not as difficult as you imagine, join the ribbon master discord via the reddit and you can get loads of help.

I love how these ribbons are being the display case of your Pokemon's achievements. I hope that in Sword and Shield we can achieve all the older ribbons as well, since there is no back and forth trading; once that ribbon Pokemon is in Ultra Sun, there's no going back to Red or what not.

I'm currently the process of making my own Ribbon Masters. It's a Shiny Togetic from Colosseum (now Togekiss)
Edit: I'm done, took me 3 years.
Though I noticed a few things wrong in the video
-The challenge is actually called the Ribbon Master challenge
-It's easier to go after the Battle Tower right after purifying
-Wrong. Platinum doesn't have exclusive Ribbons. All Ribbon found in Platinum can be found in Diamond and Pearl.
-The World Ability Ribbon doesn't require more than one player.
-Technically if you are collecting the Leaf Crown you can also consider collecting the Pokeathlon Medals.
-Collecting Ribbons in Gen 6 is a lot easier to do in ORAS. (excluding the Champion Ribbon found in X and Y)
-You didn't recommend Bottle Caps as they are pretty useful.

Love this video. Not only do I concur that ribbons are super underrated, but I also was curious about this myself. Obviously with victini being my favorite I wanted to get as many ribbons on my first ever OT victini. Unfortunately I cannot get anywhere near this many with it, for multiple reasons.
Imagine sword and shield comes out with all new ribbons, and it turns out that Forretress is one of the Pokemon that can't be transferred over... 😂

If you had two DS, couldn't you just connect both to each other over WiFi through the server to get that one ribbon?
he would actually need 4 of them. I'm pretty sure the game wouldn't let you battle the same person 50ish times in a row. I've never tried it, I can't try it, and I won't try it. lol
If you mean the online ribbon, @ 14:30 no it doesn't work like that.
That part of the battle town connects to a (now dead) Nintendo server which pulls 7 teams of 3 from a pool of player made teams. If you beat the 7 teams it gives you the option up load your team to the pool. This means that you got to slog through 7 player made, OP, cheap as hell, chance boosted teams before you get a break and have to to do it again till you have beaten 50 teams I think it was total. Without a single loss.
I think it may have been one of the most difficult things you can achieve in Pokemon PvE battling. I have the ribbon form years back, it was not easy.

Ever since my first game of Pokemon diamond I have always tried to get the most number of ribbons for my first Pokemon Infernape, unfortunately because of a lack of skill I am not able to get the ribbons for completing long battle challenges like the frontier brains but today my Infernape is in Ultra Sun with 30 ribbons
These are the champion ribbons for Alola, Hoenn, Kalos, Sinnoh and the Legend badge for defeating Red in heart gold and soul silver
He has the best friends ribbon and training from Pokemon amie and the EV training from Kalos
The effort ribbon for max EVs, the footprint ribbon for the number of levels I have raised my Infernape
The 7 weekly ribbons
Gorgeous, Royal and Gorgeous Royal Ribbons from back when I would give myself max pokedollars in Pokemon diamond
Contest memory ribbon with 10 contest ribbons (the first and second stage of each of the five contest types)
And last but not least the skilful battler ribbon for defeating one of the Battle maison owners (that being Evelyn for double battles)
That bug definitely had an epic journey.

Rest & Snore are an excellent combo for contests. Also using 2 of each of the EV berries at at least 90rpm as a base and then 3 more and one of the Berry Master's wife phrase berries complementary to it's Nature give you like 7 stars in every category
I actually loved the contests in gen IV. I have such fond memories of trying to win with my favourite pokemon, and dressing them up prettily
same, genuinely kinda hurt that this was so disparaging of contests, imo an excellent part of pokemon games, good thing to do when you're sick of battling

Technically you can have more ribbons if you use an eevee and evolve it into sylveon.
