GMC Sierra - Chevrolet Silverado transmission fluid flush

- I have seen videos where the transmission oil fluid run in the opposite direction and comes out of the radiator through the upper port. That is why I bought the adapter. I realized in my truck the direction was from the transmission line into the upper port at the radiator after making a mess in my drive way. Hey, if you don't try you won't learn.
Hope you enjoy the video and that you found it useful.

I hand pumped out two quarts from the filler neck. That comes directly from the pan.
Next I'll disconnect the bottom line from the radiator and run a hose to a container. While the engine is running. I'll have to add fluid at the same time. It won't pump much on the top line, but it did match the fluid from the filler neck while engine wasn't running.
2007 Chevrolet Silverado classic 1500.
The transmission was running hotter than ever before. The fluid looks dirty but doesn't smell burnt.
Adding fluid at the same time and amount may be challenging, but it can be done. What I like of the method I used is that you can measure how much is coming out and replenish with the same amount. And while pumping out you don’t have to do anything else but look at the hose for bubbles as an indication to stop the engine and add fluid.
Really you've done a great job !!!!
Thank you Salan Alsaidy, very much appreciated.
Well, that makes the job easier. although the bad thing about this method is when your filter is clogged, that's why the oil turns black, so you still have to replace it because if you don't, the oil will burn again
Agree, I stager flush and oil filter change each 50k.
Thank you for the informative video. But one thing. why did you decide to use the lower line instead of the top line to hook the exiting fluid from Transmission? Since you already had the adapter? Just asking.
If you mean the upper pipe like the one shown on 1:15 which it is a bit bigger in diameter, that one is engine oil to radiator, a different radiator than the one the transmission goes. The transmission shares radiator with AC condenser. See video about changing AC condenser and you will see the transmission enter the radiator via the driver side and exit when you see in this video the driver side. Thank you for your comment.
I read “Butt-Works” and was thinking I’m in the wrong side of you tube… lol.
hahahaha funny, hope you found the video helpful
Se puede hacer el mismo procesó con una GMC Yukon 2017?
This is a pretty universal procedure. Being a GM and similar in year it should be most likely the same.
How can I doo this if my 2016 silverado doesn’t have a dip stick
I don't know but there are to hoses that go from the tranny to the radiator, the hot and cold one, The cold one is the return. One of them will have a pump either pumping out or sucking to or from the radiator. If say, the hot line is pumping into the radiator, take that to an empty 5gal bucket. The other line will need to be fed with fresh fluid using a 12v pump, pumping from another 5gal container full, I mean 3 or 4 or 5 gal of fresh fluid. Make sure that at the end, the same amount that came our you put back in with fresh fluid. But I never seen a tranny like that so do some research but the idea would be more or less like that I believe.
@@BUTTEWORKSthank you
What about cleaning the pan out and magnets
And the transmission fluid filter change too. That would be my next work on the transmission after the flush.
Hi why did u do a flush on it what was it doing if u don't mind me asking ?
Transmission work well but I flush the transmission every 50K miles and change the filter every 100K. It is not described in the manual but if you bring your truck to the dealership they will recommend you to do it. Cleaner fluid is better for the transmission.
When do you change the filter
I change the filter every 80K miles and flush it every 50K miles.
how many qts did it take
You put in as much as gets out. I used 4 gallons total but that does not mean the tranny fluid capacity is 4 gallons. Just put as much as you take out and check with the dip stick to get it to the right level
What size is the hose you're using???🤔
Link in the description. Watts SVIG10 Pre-Cut 1/2-Inch Diameter by 3/8-Inch Clear Vinyl Tubing, 10-Foot Length
@@BUTTEWORKS thank you sir, I'll do that myself and save 350 bucks,👍
You’re saying radiator so the transmission has its own radiator also? Clearly it’s not the one that cools the engine right?
There are two radiators in parallel one is the engine coolant radiator, but right behind it is the AC condenser-transmission fluid radiator. Looks like one radiator but they are actually two in one.
you don't have to remove the airbox
I though about it but removing the airbox cover made the job much easier to me.
does this get the fluid out of the torque converter?
Yes, since you are recirculating it though the whole system, including toque converter.
@@BUTTEWORKSif I wanted to clean the transmission pan and change the filter how would you suggest doing that? Along with the flush to clean the tq converter. I want to go back with Amsoil
@@Krumholt Yes, you can do both, actually changing the filter is a good idea. Between filter changes you can do the flush. That is what I do with my vehicles.
@@BUTTEWORKS how often do you recommend to change filter?
@@Krumholt I change the filter and some oil at 50K, flush it at 100K, change filter and some oil at 150K and so on...
Wrong line sir. That one on the driver side is the return line.
Actually on my truck the line in the passenger side was carrying the fluid from the radiator to the transmission, that is how I got the fluid out. I leaned that the hard way when I disconnected the hose and put it inside a bucket. I started the engine and instead of getting fluid from the hose into the container, it came from the radiator all over the engine. But I have seen videos where it is the other way around and people pump fluid into the radiator. GM craziness?.
He just drained the pan not the torque converter right?
Doing a flush this way is based on ignorance or the wrong belief that the return line dumps into the pan. Logic tells me to pump new fluid into the return line which lubricates the moving parts. Get yourself a pump.
To me it doesn't matter where the return line dumps the fluid, it is in the system that is all what I care for.
@@BUTTEWORKS So you're happy doing damage to bushes and bearings. Total nut case. No care or responsibility.
