    Tip number one: Try not to clean a bike in the blazing sun for obvious reasons. If however you happen to be an incredibly important TH-camr with a Thomas the Tank Engine voice who’s been been experiencing a heatwave for over a month and simply can’t afford to put your videos on hold for any longer, then get out there and get on with it!

      I feel your pain! I'm a self employed valeter and had to clean two cars yesterday (16th July). It was 35 degrees, in a car park with no shade, and my big ol' generator running as well. Not the nicest experience!

    I’ve watched probably 1000’s of youtube detailing videos. You sir, have the best video editing of them all. And you are a top level pro detailer to boot.
    The craziest part is you are actually working will filming which makes the video that much better. Very satisfying to watch. Thank you

    My favourite part of bike cleaning is once it looks perfect taking it for a blast.. Where more often than not, within about 30 seconds, a swarm of about 1,000 or so flies decide that they'd prefer to be squished all over my pride and joy rather than doing fly stuff. Usually within about 10 minutes the seagull heard in this video at 4:35 has tracked me down and launched a couple of his bike-seeking missiles all over it!! I've found that paraffin works just as well as the commercial chain cleaners (if not better) and is cheap as chips by comparison. Follow that with a thin coat of chain wax and Bob's your uncle.

    Nicely done, it's worth rubbing a bit of ACF-50 over any parts that could rust for extra protection, great stuff. Obviously stainless steel and plastics won't need any, you can mask the disks and calipers and tyres to do nuts bolts and forks. It's good on electrical connections including battery terminals too.

    finally a great how to video on cleaning motorbikes. I notice that you use a wax on the bodywork near the seat. It's worth mentioning that wax is obviously slippy so it's important not to get any on there. seats on motorbikes are usually simple to remove and involve the key and a single latch which keeps it in place with a few tabs to line it up correctly

      Niamh Healy Well not a lot, sometimes lol, it does depend on many factors.
      I had someone come over from the other side but not fully so was no issue really, still pissed me off of course.
      It is in a recent video but the gopro dose not show distance well due to the fisheye lens, he came further over than it looks.

    • @TherealWinterpillow
      @TherealWinterpillow 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My 636 has a course powder coat on the frame and swing arm. I used a cheap detail brush with soapy water on spots that are particularly stubborn. I clean the bike as I would let it dry and examine the problematic spots and then I snow foam and go a scrubbin.
      For the spots that the detail brushes don't remove I use a brush with stuffer bristles.

    More tips:
    1) Use something to prevent a lot of water going in the exhaust
    2) Cover clocks.
    3) Don't spray chain cleaner directly on the chain, cause it will break down the grease behind the orings. Prefer to apply on a rug and wipe it clean
    4) Afterwards lubricate the usual bits, and also lube suspension adjusters cause they tend to cease

    • @codenamenel
      @codenamenel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      5) When re-lubing the chain, spray the inside of the chain, that way Centrifugal force pushes the lube into the chain when you ride, Spraying the outside makes it fling off

    When adding a lube to chain it is a good idea to lube break pads aswell as they tend to squeak after cleaning.

    Thumbs up to your dad for howling around on this. Never heard of bike specific blow driers though I make do with my air line. Have you ever heard of cleaning side walls with shoe polish.

    We used to use chainsaw oil on our chains as it tended to stay relatively clear and not fly off the moment you started moving

    What do you recommend as a degreaser, as many I have looked at will mark/tarnish alloy and anodised surfaces, bear aluminium is particularly bad for this, even if motorcycle Muck Off is left on a second to long. I have in the past used that WD40 Chain clean but found it tarnish alloy really badly.

      This pink degreaser I found was really gentle, so much so I had to step up to Autosmart G101 to get the job done properly. That being said I wasn't working with 'naked' metal like you mention. If it needs heavy cleaning it's hard to avoid I guess, all the more reason to properly protect and maintain once its been polished up!

    Can you recommend some detail brushes for me. The small ones you use are ideal. I’m in the US. Thanks

      Detail Factory are the go-to at the minute. I also use a set from Autobrite Direct here in the UK however in the US you may want to look for some Swissvax style one's instead.
