    having owned Prohet 6, Ob-6 and Trigon 6 I'd rank them as Trigon 6 first, then Ob-6 then Prophet 6. I prefer my Prophet 10 to the Prophet 6 anyway (much richer and fuller sounding). I like the OB-6 for the things only it can do but overall I prefer the Trigon 6 as it has more weight to the sound, is less samey and has the range of a prophet with the character the P6 lacks. OB6 and T6 are both great synths but if I can only have one synth it'll be Trigon 6, its sound is more present and powerful. I also found the OB-6 lacking in versatility at times, great as it does sound, it wasn't the best at more bread and butter analog sounds.

      Hi! Good points. I noticed some of the same things at times with mine. The Trigon does have a lot of "punch" to the sound. It can be very forward sounding while still sounding smooth if you need it to be. It definitely has a workhorse feel and is good for getting things done in the studio. The Prophet 10 is an amazing tone machine. It just sounds beautiful. You don't even miss the extra features the modern sequentials have, it's not about that. Thanks for checking out the video!

      If you were getting your first/only polysynth, which would you recommend out of the four (prophet-6, Trigon, OB-6 or Prophet 5/10)?

      Trigon 6 is way underrated! Probably my favorite analog that I own, including the Prophet 10. I feel like a lot of people didn’t “get” it, and feel the need to be able to categorize or label a synth, but it’s just an incredible sounding synth, period.

    It seems like I am in the minority, but for me it's the Trigon all the way! The filter sounds sweeter, richer, any extra oscillator makes it warm and fat. The OB's great also, but...

      Thanks very much! Yes the Trigon just feels more like a first "go to" in the studio for basic synth sounds that also sound very rich and powerful. The OB-6 is like starting up that classic muscle car, it's got attitude but it might not be the best daily driver depending on what kind of music you make.

    You did a great job matching these patches to demonstrate similar sonic character where applicable. Trigon Module for me (to compliment my OB) if they do one. Cant see why not--after they milk these keyboard orders for a while. Interesting to see how Sequential implements a module now that they've been purchased by Novation. Funny how the Novation rep strategically omitted any reference to "Moog" when reviewing the Trigon's filter configuration.

    • @deepsynths

  • @cfs
    @cfs ปีที่แล้ว +7

    T6 seems like a nice compliment to the OB-6. I'd still pick the OB-6 first if I was shopping today, but not by a huge margin, and the T6 has decidedly pushed the P6 into 3rd place of the trio. A T6 would be a better one-and-only-one-synth-for-me option if someone was limited to just one synth. The T6 sounds more "standard" than the OB-6, which may or may not be what someone wants.

    • @deepsynths
      @deepsynths  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The Filter and OSC options on the Trigon just make it more versatile for me. So yes, if I had to pick only one to use on many different productions I'd probably go with the Trigon. However the OB-6 can go into areas that Trigon can't due to the OB-6's sweepable filter type selector. So some may find that to be what matters most, or that OB-6 character. Thanks for checking it out!

      I've had all 3 still got Trigon 6 and OB-6, good compliment (T6 is a better all round synth than the P6 imo which I let go without worry and replaced with a Prophet 10 r4 that sounded better). T6 and OB-6 are the best for sure. T6 for a workhorse OB-6 for full on character.

      I ended up buying a Prophet 10 over a 6 and don’t regret it. If I need the flexibility and sound design options, I have a Take 5 which can do so much more than a P6 - IMO Take 5 + Prophet 10 > Prophet 6.

      One thing about using the Trigon in the Studio vs the OB-6 is that I use it for bass sounds more than the OB-6 which I really don't think of when working on bass. The Trigon can create these solid, smooth deep basses I like more easily. Basses that match or better the Pro-3 sometimes. Especially running into the right EQ and preamp. Thanks for watching!

      @@JaroAtry Hi Jaro, yes the OB-6 can do bass sounds, I agree. Most synths can do some kinda bass, especially when listening to the synth alone and not in the context of a track. For me though, the Trigon just works faster and better at making solid deep smooth basses intended for commercial release and being compared to other commercial reference tracks. Especially in the Dance/House genre. It's beat out the Pro-3 for the bass job a few times. Of course it also depends on your taste and style you're going for. Maybe the OB-6 would have the perfect bass for a track your working on. Bass in songs can vary greatly. I enjoy both of these synths overall! Cheers!

    They both sound great, but l, as an OB6 player, myself, I really like the growl and aggression that the OB6 has. It doesn't seem like the Trigon quite gets there. On the other hand, the Trigon seems to be able to do smoother sounds better. Horses for courses, I suppose.

    • @deepsynths
      @deepsynths  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's interesting to see how the different filters cause them to have different "gravitational centers" if you know what I mean. They can both get aggressive sounding but the OB-6 has more of a hairy edge when it does. The Trigon-6 on the other hand can get harder sounding more easily. So it's like 2 flavors of aggressive I guess. Also, yes the Trigon seems to get smoother quicker but the OB-6 can have this soft quality I like at times more easily than the Trigon. It's like fuzzy and soft vs silky and smooth yet focused when comparing pads. Thanks for checking it out!

      @christopherventer6391 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@deepsynths Yeah that's exactly it about the OB-6 I think. It has this kind of bright buzzy or fuzzy edge to it, even on the Triangle, and you can dial in just a bit of it by turning the filter mode knob up a little bit from full Low Pass. I love that sound. I also like how there's kind of this little bit of breakup in the low end on the OB that sounds almost like some sort of arcing electricity or something.

      the Trigon has a 2 and 4 pole LP filter option. You can get the OB-6 and Trigon to sound similar but as far as the filters go, they react differently as you make adjustments. The resonance on the Trigon needs more attention than the OB-6. The Trigon can stretch further but you have to think about what you're doing more than the OB-6. I have done this with all my Sequential synths. All sequential synths basic program sound the same or at least very very similar (only the Pro 2 and P12 are different with their digital waveforms) . The filters are different, but with different setting you can create the same basic sounds. Anf not every synth has the same waveforms, but the SAW is the same with all of them. They start to sound different when you add filter or waveform modulation, XMOD and as you canb hear in this video ADSR can be different. Each synths has it's own sound/power when doing complex sound designing, only then the differences can be massive. If you only want to make basic patches, you don't need more then 1 Sequential synths.

    i toured with a Memorymoog for many years. I want the Trigon to be the new MM but there’s something missing. It was an extremely raw beast of a synth, never in tune but always a blast to play. It’s sound cut through everything going on on stage. I own an OB6 and it definitely does sounds like the OB I had in the early 80’s. The Trigon is a nice synth though, I like it. My two cents

    • @deepsynths
      @deepsynths  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There's definitely a lot of questions about the Trigon and how it compares to the Memorymoog because of the design of the Trigon. I never really thought of it as a straight on copy. For example, the new Prophet 5 is suppose to be a Prophet 5, period. It's been very helpful for me in the studio and really easy to gel with. So that ticks the boxes for me. Interesting insight you had. Thanks for watching!

    Without a multi-mode filter it would be pretty difficult for the Trigon to go into the band pass/high pass type territory (band pass/high pass pads, strings etc). Those kind of sounds are actually used in modern production. It's great they included a 12db mode on the Trigon. That's very valuable. They should have included a high pass too however. That would give it a lot more scope. But maybe there is a way around this I don't know. Sequential have released filters as part of their digital effects suite on various of their synths. Generally though a multi-mode filter will allow you greater scope and more variety of sounds.

      A friend of mine has the Rev 2 and really likes it but I don't care for the sound of it compared to the Trigon. It's not bad I just like the Trigon and OB-6 better. Haven't done a shootout of the 2 though. The Trigon can sound punchy and get crazy but it can also sound "creamy", that's the word that always come to mind. If you try a Trigon, be sure to try it with and without effects on. Also, like the Pro-3, it "runs hot", so turning the OSC's volumes back actually smooths it out on some sounds (I own a Pro-3 and was told they "run hot", which was obvious, by someone at Sequential, meaning the OSC output level not temperature). It's very close. If you compare both with filter and env set for maximum snappiness the Trigon gets more into that "zappy" sound area, but only by a little. The OB-6 retains more of the original sound. Neither of them have that automatic Roland snappy envelope thing that happens without even trying. The Prophet 5 envelopes get snappy faster. The richness of the sounds these synths create is really their strong point. If I want a snappy synth part, I don't think of the OB-6 as the first answer most times.

People don't realize it is much better to have a 3rd osc than a square sub, since you can turn that 3rd osc into a square sub but still retain all perks & benefits attached to a fully fledged osc. What Sequential won't say is that the T6 pretty much makes both the P6 and the Ob-6 irrelevant now

There are some places you can go on the OB-6 that the Trigon can't reach due to the LP, Notch, HP and BP filter adjustment option on the OB-6. I prefer the ob6 and i also prefer the prophet 8 over the trigon.
      Maybe thats to much for your little world but it's my honest opinion.

    If one of them were to be your only synth, which one would it be?

      Hi, just saw your comment for some reason now. If you're still interested I have to say the answer is it depends. I like the OB-6 for certain styles of music and for the character of the sound which reminds me of 80's synths. However the Trigon seems to be the one I reach for more when I need a sound while working on a project. So if I was being completely practical I'd keep the Trigon. I'd miss the OB-6 though. thanks for watching!

    Is it just me or does the OB-6 have a "phasing" sort of sound when playing multiple keys? Almost like there's a bit of portamento or something between the two; whatever it is, it sounds AMAZING. I think that alone kinda sells me on the OB-6 over the Trigon, although they do sound very similar.

      The OB-6 feels looser compared to the Trigon. So that may be what you're hearing as phasing, some movement that's part of its character. It's cool but I find the tighter and more focused character of the Trigon to be useful and a nice change at times. Thanks for checking it out!

    I would definitely get this over the Prophet 6 but the OB6 still wins to my ears, however, by a close margin. I love the Trigon's 3 oscillators and Moog-like ladder filter but the blonde wood panels are a turn off.

      The Trigon and the OB-6 work pretty well together. One seems to cover the bases that the other one doesn't do as well. They make a good team. The wood color is a funny thing. The first thing I thought when I saw it was "Hey that blonde wood looks cool!" I was surprised later on to see it sort of become a debated topic. It's kind of irrelevant anyways. When you find a great sound in the Trigon that's perfect for a track and you record it, listen to the playback and then smile, that's what really matters. Not the cosmetics. Thanks for checking out my video!

      @@deepsynths I plan on getting a Trigon 6 tbh, maybe I can darken the wood with a stainer. 🤔

      The light wood makes it look fresh and modern, and blondes are always more fun.

    No. But they're both great creations.

    The OB6 has an older soul I think.

      I can see what you mean, the Trigon is on it's first "go-around", ha, ha. Thanks for checking it out!

    All the way OB-6 for me. It has something special (mostly in the highs) which Trigon lacks.

      The OB-6 definitely has a unique character. Like a "loose sparkle" that just comes to it with ease. Thanks for watching
