- Amtrak Train 11, the California Zephyr rolled through Truckee on April 27th with an unusual horn from unit 147. P42DC 147 in years past has had a normal K5LA, but from what I originally thought had been changed to a Canadian tuned K5L. The bells on the K5LA resemble similar tuning to the K5L which create a haunting echo through the Sierra Nevada Mountain scape!
Dang amazing scenery, camera work and nice catch! The horn 147 sports is a early-mid 2000’s Narrow Font K5LA or some like to call it the Narrow Font 2, the tunings on these particular models do indeed play a different tune compared to the original standard Narrow Font K5LA we are used to hearing.
Wow, those mountains look GORGEOUS! Amazing backdrop!
It truly was an amazing view!
Man those snowcapped peaks provide a beautiful view! 147 on the other hand looks like its been worked hard. Great catch!
Thank you! I was impressed by the mountainscape that day!
Nice Catch!
Thanks!
Amtrak #5. Sounds like a little off tune K5LA, standard Amtrak.
Yeah I wasn’t totally sure. I thought maybe it could be an oddball K5LA but it also has similar tuning to the K5L so that’s was I thought it was.
sounds warbly
