The two best guitarists/ band members in my opinion, Randy Rhoads and the woefully unappreciated Mick Ronson both came from a classical background. That’s not to knock all those brilliantly talented, self-taught musicians of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s that graced our radios and record stores at all! Just that the discipline that comes with being classically trained, plus a knowledge of theory, but especially that discipline that begins in childhood, puts those to players a notch above the rest.
@@mikeyland668 that both had similar musical backgrounds. The value of Mick’s classical background really shone in his ability to arrange music. A lot of top metal bands are classically trained musos too.
@@mikeyland668 yknow, the odd thing is that I think Randy does actually sound a bit like Mick Ronson, just more technical solos and the tone sort of spits a bit more. Correct me if I’m wrong though, haven’t heard many Mick Ronson solos.

So in the early 80s, I was working at a hospital in Southern California called Saint Bernadines. I was working for a man who had the contract for the landscaping of the Hospital. I was still in high school. Anyway, one day I was working there with my best friend, And Across the street, there is a graveyard. A bunch of cars were over there at the cemetery and we saw some limousines so we knew something big was going on. Upon going over there at lunchtime I saw a limousine and Ozzy Osbourne climbed out of it I knew exactly who he was And I saw some other people that I knew And I came to the realisation they were burying Randy Rhodes. He has a little mausoleum there. I knew he had died because I saw it on the TV and I was blown away that they were bearing him right there, I lived down there, the rest of my life Until I join the military and went away into the Navy. I went and saw Ozzie at us festival in 1983 and I was really thinking he was going to do something crazy, but he really just did his set and moved on. If you ever get a chance to go to Southern California look it up and you can see his mausoleum. I believe his mother is buried in the same mausoleum so he came for money. He was not poor for sure.
I know. He wasn't into the leather and the spiked leather thing and neither was Rudy Sarzo. Sharon gave Rudy a bunch of money and said "here, get some stage clothing" and he came back with tights, leg warmers and satin clothes, lol. They both had to be shown what the Osbournes wanted them to look like. Randy continued to use his polka dot clothes and tie at the beginning of the "Blizzard" tour, but quickly realized Ozzy wasn't into that. Luckily he kept the custom polka dot "V" guitar, LOL !
Never cared for Randy's tone, but that is probably as close as one could get. I think Randy would have sounded much better with a tube screamer or GE10 instead of that Distortion +. His tone sounded better on Diary though.

@@MikeysGeetar Don't think constructive criticism is useless, since it would be a much better tone using Altec Lansing (the correct) speakers, since 99% of all guitar tones comes from the fucking speakers!
Randy Will always be my favorite guitarist. He had the chops, technique, chug, and ability that set him above his peers.
