    Randy Rhoads was quite possibly the best composer & musician that I have ever met in my life. He came into my life like a bolt of lightning and as such he was gone again. I consider my self one of the luckiest men alive to have not only met him but also I had the great honor of being able to work with him. I will cherish the time I spent with him till the day I die LONG LIVE RANDY RHOADS. LONG LIVE ROCK N ROLL. I LOVE YOU ALL. - OZZY OSBOURNE

However his thumbnails were horrific, awful, just no words to describe how nasty they were... Why the hell did he let them grow ?? Didn't he realize this is the most awful thing in the world ? I'm 66 years old. I've been playing guitar since I was 14. I've seen and heard thousands of guitar players and solos. This solo on Mr. Crowley is probably the best composed guitar solo I've ever heard. Every note is wired to the chord. The legato is so smooth, and the wild bend still blow me away, no matter how many times I've heard and played it. No matter how old or how good I get, I'll never get it to sound like Randy. But then, nobody can. He was one of a kind and we lost him all too soon like so many other great musicians who died much too young, going back to Buddy Holly.

      He wasn't that good. It's sad he lost his life so young but his guitar playing is only remarkable in the context of a genre that had a bunch of pretentious but fairly talentless musicians to compare him to. The average jazz musician is hundreds of times better than any wanky metal guitarist

      @Musician7831 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I also think that it's impressive that the double solo effect on the second solo is basically the keyboard soloing similar notes to the guitar. It's incredibly good choice of sound effect and incredible keyboard playing.

    • @Musician7831
      @Musician7831 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Basically up to 4:38 on the second solo, the main solo is the keyboard with this weird arp guitar like effect, then the guitar takes over more after 4:37/4:38. Wicked keyboard playing.

    • @Musician7831
      @Musician7831 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So basically between 3:39 and 4:38 the loudest soloing is the keyboard with a weird guitar like sound effect sampled through it. I know cos even though I don't know the song I know the fretboard pretty well.

I just wish he had the balls to make Sharon put out the professionally filmed concerts that's a fact that she had taken on the Blizzard and Diary tours. It's such a freakin shame how little clear footage there is of Randy that exists out here. It's so infuriating knowing the film's exist yet they won't release them. Bob Daisley also has live recordings and videos of Randy... he's posted bits and pieces of the recordings on his website but also won't release what's called The Holy Grail. It's when you can put them together and the virtuoso learns to do on demand what they are feeling, and the technician learns to reach deep down and touch primal energy you get what we see here

It makes no sense. Bob Daisley confirmed this as well as he has what's called The Holy Grail... recordings and videos of Randy.. he's released bits and pieces of the recordings on his website but he also won't freakin release the Holy Grail... I'm pretty sure for monetary reasons from what I remember. But you'd think after all these years they'd all step back from the money and just let the fans have some great concert footage of Randy considering there's still so many millions of people who would love to see them. I love Randy a lot, so much so that I’ve even visited where he taught music. But I honestly think you have to put this lineup and the OG Sabbath lineup on at least even grounds. Geezer is a hell of a bassist, bill ward was a fucking animal back in the day and Tony is the riff god of metal. Randy may have been a more technically gifted guitarist but much in the way that Randy played a big part in neoclassical metal, Tony set a lot of the foundation for metal in general as well as basically being the mold for all stoner and doom metal to follow

    I went to school with Randy and his sister. Burbank, CA breeds genius, but Randy was as sweet as he was ridiculously talented. He would stop me once in a while at school and talk to me about my Brother who happened to be a Jazz Trumpet and Flugelhorn player. I was an actress and a dancer and he would talk to me about my work. I had no idea that he knew who Steven was, let alone me. He was, at least , when I ran into him a sweet, soft spoken guy who appreciated artistry in whatever package it showed up in.

SRV was fucking awesome but he's MILES different from randy, not better but different. At the end of the day Randy and SRV and Jason Becker and Peter Green and Gary Moore and EVH and Clapton and BB and on and on are all fucking amazing and it doesn't need to be a dick measuring contest on whose better.
