It should be a hybrid, if it has a version of Windows that you can install Steam... that will mean that you could play almost all PS exclusives as well.
Just say..., They need xbox os that can execute windows applications.....why need windows for that? Didn't they already give development option in series s and x? The problem here is piracy.. The moment they allow .exe to be executable, it means every windows pirated game can be executed... 😂 You know majority steamdeck owners use pirated games right? 😅 They have installed windows os on 512 gb sdcards and they directly execute pirated games from card... It's very easy... Why would xbox do this? Steam games won't be optimized for xbox portable console... If xbox portable uses same apu as steamdeck and they join hands together to bring steam to xbox then it makes sense but why? Xbox makes 30% tax money through 3rd party game on their store.. Steam does the same too.. Why would xbox share that? Given the option, people will go to steam over xbox...
@@nekochief117 Windows handhelds are already on the market they just aren't Xboxs.... Neither are gaming Pcs its like I want all my games on my box. My epic games and steam games but they have to focus on the xbox experience.
If I could have a plug and play Xbox console experience in a handheld with the Xbox controller form factor that would play my games locally, I would buy one day one without hesitation.
I agree with the 5, but I also want to add must have an SD slot not just internal storage and also must be dockable (with possible processor boost when docked)
How do you honestly keep comparing a handheld device form factor to basically a tablet sandwiched between a controller? The Portal doesn't need to accommodate an APU, RAM, storage and an active cooling system. Plus, because all that it does is stream, the power draw is much less than a portable PC. And therefore the battery can be considerably smaller. What you want doesn't seem to take into account the requirements to actually be able to play games locally.
It also looks like crap. You could have the controller hand form and grooving that feels good without it just looking like some backbone split that goes on your cell phone from ali express.
I dont want it to be a big bulky thing like steam deck or a rog ally, I want it to be like the switch lite and be actually portable. A clamshell design would be nice
What would really sell me on a handheld system these days would be a 5G connection. It's going to be tricky to implement I know, but being able to play CoD deathmatch from literally anywhere would be a true game changer for gaming handhelds.
I just hope they can fully transfer the Xbox controller layout into a hand held. The Rog Ally is serviceable but it's not quite there. The PS Portal definitely nailed the form factor. So if Xbox can do exactly that with their controller it's a day 1 buy for me.
That would be tough because the portables are almost flat and are not easily ergonomically shaped like a controller. Steam Deck is almost flat and straight. You can't just shift your hands to adjust like a controller if you have larger hands. The machine is wide, and the player bears the weight in his hands, while the screen orientation must be kept perpendicular to your view. The D-pad is also tiny and a little mushy; I feel like I'm putting excessive pressure on it.
I absolutely NEED an Xbox Handheld! I no longer own an xbox console (only ps5 and switch at the moment) I did dabble in the steamdeck but I didn't want to start a completely new games library so I sold it. I have a HUGE xbox library already(250+) that goes unused and while some of the games are "play anywhere" not all of them are. It needs to be a handheld that has an "xbox" inside it so I can access all those games that aren't play anywhere. Also for the sake of versatility it should have a windows mode too so if you did want to use steam/ epic games store, the option to do so is there. And yes the current xbox UI as its handheld mode would make the most sense! To me this is a no brainer so I'm hopeful they arrive at the same conclusion and announce this thing!
It needs a microSD card slot for games just like the switch. They are way better for games than Blu-ray disks since they have the storage capacity to hold modern games without requiring an online installation. It also means we can keep the ability to own our physical media.
I'm gonna grab the Ally to hold me over til a possible Xbox handheld. My question is should I grab a first Gen Ally or the Ally X. That comes out next month July 2024. Thanks
I wanna add on to that list. USB C for charging and maybe HDMI out docks. Microsd card slot for memory. Hall effect joysticks to prevent stick drift. Steam, EGS, GOG maybe Android integration.
I'd like a mix of the Series X controller ergonomics for hand comfort, but blending into a smooth form factor. I want the Xbox UI and functionality. I want Series S ballpark with proper scalability and easy smart delivery compaility. I want OLED VRR so it looks nice and can utilize 40 fps uncapped framerate etc for battery life and fidelity / performance sweet spots ala Steam Deck. I'd like to be able to quickly switch between handheld and console with my save and quick resume if possible.
How will we be able to play our physical games on it? If I want to play Witcher 3, but only have it locally, would I be able to play it on the Xbox handheld?
PSP was the absolute best system as far as idea. Wish they focused on this way way sooner. Idk a gamer who would not want this. I mean if you can pack a new portable PlayStation, Xbox and you have Switch all in one backpack and have all your games with you? That’s living the dream. Yes internet could pose problems so that’s something to focus on also another feature I would love to see is the ability for a portable system like Xbox or PS is to have the ability to get games from old / older systems like PS2 or Xbox Original. New games are cool and we have fun with them but being able to replay some classics would be insane. I love Tony Hawk Underground 2 or Ratchet and Clank. Maybe they could sell digital bundles of past favorites where you purchase a bundle and it would include 10 hit games or something. Thinking out loud here 😂 Definitely love the mobile console idea and would love to see PS and Xbox come out with those. I miss the classics that got me into gaming to begin with so I definitely would be thrilled to see those launch as well. until then I just have to wait until I get home to turn on the ol consoles.
Xbox needs to copy the steam deck (it just feels amazing and it’s a plug and play with the option of changing it to a computer if you don’t want to be on console mode)
Spot on wishlist for the Xbox Handheld. We need the Elite series 2 controller form and grips. The ROG ally is top notch but it gets uncomfortable , FPS games like Call of duty , battlefield feel awkward on steam deck and rog. Also they should find a way to connect the grips to the screen cause the PS portal aesthetically looks horrible.
The form factor of Playstation portable, two screen size variants, the battery life of the switch oled, oled screen, lit controller buttons with rgb of choice, hd rumble. Is this too much to ask for. If it comes out looking like the steam deck I'm buying the Playstation portable and be happy.
I agree with most of what you did but disagree about firm factor. I own all 4 rog ally. Legion go, steam deck and switch. The steam deck is the most comfortable in my hands, the legion go next both because of the joycons and the screen. The rog ally hurts my hands. The corners push into my palms
This is probably the equivalent of putting a controller up against mouse and keyboard. It will struggle compared to the top xbox in any games that require more performance and framerate. I actually think it will appeal to more casual gamers than hard-core players who play daily and want to have the top hardware on a game such as COD.
Tldr; if xbox makes a handheld, use the Xbox controller handles like the Ps portal does I'm not a Sony controller fan at all, never have been, but I gotta admit the controller handles on the Ps portal is a big brain genius idea. I have a Bluetooth mg-x controller for my fold 4 to play gamepass on the go and while the controller is amazing as it even has a Xbox button, it gets really uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time. I know they have the mgx pro but it's a little too bulky for my daily carry and I don't want the joysticks to get all loose in my bag as where the regular mgx fits conveniently and is Bluetooth and I have a leather case for it, it's perfect in size. If xbox makes a handheld it should absolutely be made with xbox handles similar to how Ps portal uses ps5 handles.
They need to get rid of a lot of things peope do not like. Short battery life, heat, noise, to many game settings, windows updates, etc. We want games that we own and have the game key! Not digital games that can be lost if your account gets hacked. I have stopped buying digital other than Steam games which could be made to run if Steam closed for some reason.

make option to have elite series 2 controller on sides to slide on line the GameCube controller attachable on the switch if it doesn't feel like a controller I don't want it
If it only plays xbox games, I wouldn't buy it. Even though i have a massive digital library on the platform (that's why it's hard for me to pass on to steam), I'm just sick and tired of 3rd party games skipping xbox, and their lack of 1st party games wouldn't justify the purchase for me, if it doesn't have a version of windows and other storefronts. I'd like a hybrid like the steamdeck, so i can have a taste of sony's games too via steam. Plus if it had a dock that'd make it more powerful like a pseudo eGPU, i'd love that.
Most gamers are not console, but smart phone/tablet gamers, who game in bed, on the toilet, bus and everywhere. Bring the Xbox handheld, but don't think it will increase Xbox adoption, for PS5 fans will purchase a Sony one.
PS Portal is not a dedicated handheld and you can't sit there and tell me xbox is gonna make a streamer.. I don't think xbox is going to make a wifi machine....it's gonna be like the SWITCH or the ROG ALLY
an Xbox x in a handheld...not possible due to size and it will always need to be plugged in the the power even if it was possible....just think about it. stream device incoming
and the Rog ally...had one...is ok at 720p maybe 1080p but that's it.... stuttering is real, plugged in to get the best performance is a must...tech just isn't ready....need way better battery power and thats a long way of.
Needs to run Xbox OS. Otherwise it's just another MS Surface product competitor to Steam Deck etc, nothing special. Also, not all games are on PC and Xbox. Your library is not 1:1 and you dont have a lot of older games accessible on PC that you may have on your Xbox. There are games that don't sync your progress aka are not "Play Anywhere." EA Play Gamepass games require the EA PC app and don't sync progress. I need to be able to play a game on console then pick up seamlessly on the handheld.
Show me the Nintendo switch is the best of the lot and wow the others have the power these other handheld including a hypothetical Xbox handheld will not have the games for me. That’s where the Nintendo switch wins in the games..
